| For those that live in the Nashua, Hollis, N.H. area that wish a
CME call me at DTN 264-6806 or home after 6:00 P.M. 603 889-1037.
There are a lot of Auxiliary members who work at DEC and are certified
to do CMEs. All in te name of boating safety. Maybe others should
sign on here in this note to specify the area you will cover in
your home area.

| Another CME opportunity. Starting in late May and continuing through
early September, There will be Courtesy Marime Examiners on Lake
Quinsigamond (sp?), at the State boat ramp, on the Shrewsbury side.
Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. EDT Division 10 of the
Coast Guard Auxiliary provides CMEs in the parking lot while other
Auxiliary members receive on the water training. It's a good
opportunity to have your boat checked and meet some of the most
enthusiastic boaters from the central Mass region!

| A courtesy exam sounds like a good idea. Is the exam recommended
for a brand new boat? I believe I've got all the necessary safety
equipment for a 17' boat, is anything missing from this list?
1A/10BC fire extinguisher flare kit
anchor and line first aid kit
life jackets throw cushion
handheld VHF boarding platform
fenders & dock lines horn & lights

If you have that Curtesy Examination sticker on your boat you
can very often save yourself the trouble of being stopped for
a check at a later date. It tells anyone interested that your boat
has been checked already and HAS all the equipment needed. It doesn't
matter HOW OLD your boat is!
The only thing you may also need is a paddle and/or a boathook.
You may/should also include spare plugs and a wrench in your kit
of things to have on board. The throw device is NOT required for
your size boat but is still a good idea.
One thing that I just found out about VHF radios that you may
find interesting; it is illegal to use that VHF radio on dry land!
It requires a VERY special permit to use those VHF radios on land.
That EVEN includes things like - if you have one mounted in your boat,
you can't use it if the boat isn't in the water!

Please check regarding a "Throwable" device for a 17' boat again.
I think its over 16' requires a type I, II, III for everyone on
board PLUS one type IV (Throwable)!!! I dont have the 204 in front
of me but, I think its required for a 17' boat.

| For those of you, who are in the area of Valley
Marine, off of Rt. 202 in Rindge N.H., Flotila 1003
will be holding an all day CME station from 9 to 5 P.M.
