one out there has any experience or info on "Galaxy" boats.

Don,
At the show a couple weeks ago I saw a real nice looking Galaxy 19' cuddy.
I forget who was selling them, but they were only $9,995 delivered for the
boat with a galvanized trailer and Mercruiser 130hp I/O. Seemed like such
a deal. The thought crossed my mind of backing out of the deal I already
made on the Sunbird SPL 174.

Then I talked to Jeff Ceria, who used to own a Galaxy. He told me the reason
he got rid of his is that the hull cracked. I'm sure he'll have some more
info when he sees this note.

One other thing, I believe there is or was a "Galaxie" boat company. Similar
name, but not related.

I had a 19' Galaxy cuddy back in 85. I bought the boat brand new
from Wards Boat Shop in Center Ossipee N.H. The boat was nothing
but problems from day one. The first problem was the piece of junk
Rochester carburator that Mercruiser used kept on vapor locking,
once the boat engine was warmed up and you shut it off for more
than a few minutes, it wouldn't start untill the motor was cold
(about 2 hours). Just about every nut and bolt in the boat rattled
loose. The boat rode really horrible over chop, it to light in the
bow. And then the grand finally, the hull cracked, it was a factory
defect. That was real scary! I was out in the middle of the Broads
on Winnipesaukee at night. There was a lot of Galaxys' in our marina
that year, and at the end of the year they were almost all for sale!

I would buy five Bayliners before I bought another Galaxy.
Do your self a favor and don't buy a Galaxy, seriously this is
one boat that I would not recommend to anybody.

269.4GALAXY NIGHTMERESFINALY::HATALSRNTue Jun 13 1989 17:528
GALAXY BOATS ARE MADE HERE WHERE I LIVE IN COLUMBIA,S.C.
I NEVER PERSONALLY OWNED ONE BUT I HEARD A LOT OF HORROR STORIES ABOUT
THEM. THE TRANSOMS SEEM TO FALL OFF LEAVING YOUR O.B. MOTOR IN THE
DRINK!! DUE TO ROTTING WOOD FROM INFERRIOR CONSTRUCTION AND CHEAP WOOD.
LAST I HEARD THEY WERE IN LOTS OF LAW SUITS MOSTLY FROM CUSTOMERS WITH
    THE BIGGER BOATS.

    Rick,
I'm upstate in Greenville, I was wondering, Would I be better

buying a boat from the manufactor, such as Bayliner there in Columbia?

People tell me it's worth it to travel to Col. to buy one. But

I'm not so sure about that. I may as well go ahead a pay a dealer

to bring a boat up here to me! Please let me know what you think!

    Thanks,

269.8I did it anyway and I'm gladNECSC::BLOODFri Apr 03 1992 16:419
Well I did it anyway I bought a 22.5 foot Galaxy Cuddy cab and I am
replying just because I like controversy. I am going on my 4th season with
absolutly no problems. Oh I'm sorry there was that one rock that jumped
up out of nowhere and bit my prop. I feel that for the money I payed
I got just what I wanted. A good family boot that I can cruise around
lake winny on and be comfortable.
