248.0. "POWERBOATS Magazine" by SALEM::M_TAYLOR (I drink alone...Care to join me?) Mon Jan 30 1989 11:44

    Has anyone out there received the new magazine POWERBOATS yet?

    I got one, addressed to me, last week, and after visiting with in-laws
    this weekend, they got one too, same way. It's a new publication,
    dedicated to motorboats 16-24 feet in length. It seems to be a very
    well-done publication, with a slight lean towards first-time buyers
    in article depth and scope.

    I have a Four Winns with OMC stern drive; so does Dad. I am wondering
    if anyone else out there has gotten a free issue, and, what affiliation
    do you have with boating that may have gotten you the issue?

    Come-on, summer!

    I got the issue also. They probably got my name from Water Ski magazine
    and sent me a bingo card offering a FREE issue. I sent it in and
    recently received the issue. You're right, it does cater to first
    time buyers and includes articles on basic info. (financing, general
    boat care/maintenance, trailering, etc.) Well put together, nice
    photography, extremely attractive models! Although not something
    us advanced boaters ;^) would subscribe to, if your're in the
    market for your first boat or just starting out, I think it's
    well worth the subscription price.

248.2It's about time...NRADM::WILSONA man's place is on his boatMon Jan 30 1989 12:3313

    "Powerboats" is a brand new magazine, put out by the publishers
    of Boating magazine. So, if you subscribe to Boating you will
    probably recieve a free copy of Powerboats. Looks as if they
    may have finally realized that while it's nice to dream, the stuff
    in Boating is pretty hard for the average Joe to relate to.

    I do subscribe to Boating and Offshore, and read both from cover-
    to-cover, but if I had to pick only one it would be Trailer Boats
    Magazine.

            I received the card for the free issue of Powerboat magizine,
            but hadn't sent it in, just due to the fact if I didn't like
            it, they would hound me for ever to buy the rag, besides
            I have to agree with .2 that Trailer Boats Maginzine, is
            the best for the type of boating I do.

            Come on spring

248.4Seems to be some confusion...ASPEN2::BOIKOWed Feb 01 1989 14:4421
    	I think you guy's are a little confused about which of these new
    boating magazines are which..... To set the record straight..

    	o Boat - The premier issue just came out, the date on the front
                 cover says March 1989. This mag is from the editors of
    		 Boating magazine. Cost: $1.95

    	o Motor Boat - This is also a premiere issue dated Spring 1989.
    	               There will be 4 issues per year Jan,April,August,
    		       and Dec. Cost: $1.95, same as above.

    	o Powerboat - This magazine has been around for many years, and
    		 	caters to the high performance crowd - of which I'm
    			a member. Cost $4.50 Powerboat is monthly - except
    			December.

    	These are only the 3 mags which seem to be confusing people. There
    	are many others large and small which I've left out... Hope this
    	helps.

    Yes, I meant Motor Boat in my initial survey. Sounds like you've
    gotten your free copy also.
