274.0. "NYNEX Boater's Directory" by MAMIE::LAYTON () Tue Feb 21 1989 19:30

    I recently received the "NYNEX Boating Yellow Pages for MA and RI"
    in the mail. From what I can gather, the phone company started
    publishing it last year. It contains 50 charts that cover the entire
    MA and RI coastline, in approx 10-20 mile chunks, and appears to
    include quite a bit of detail, although lat and long are missing.
    Each chart references the appropriate gov't navigation chart, and
    are not intended to be used for navigation. The book is approx
    6" by 8" by 1.5" and can be ordered for $5.00, although it was sent
    to me for free, I suspect they got my wife's name from the registry
    as the boat is registered in her name, and the book was addressed
    to her.

    Did anyone else get this??

    Oh, yes, it also has vhf listings for the various harbors, some
    first aid, safe boating, rules and regs info in addition to a very
    complete yellow pages section that has lots of different categories.

    In short, I was quite impressed.

    Unfortunately, I don't have the address to send away for one of
    these, as it was on an order card that I gave to someone, but I'll
    see if I can find it. I suspect a phone call to the phone company
    would do.

    ciao,

    Carl

    Yes, I got one the other day, and I think it was the third year
    I got one. It is a nice guide.

    I got one also, it is the third year that I have gotten one,
    and I have only lived here and boated here for that amount
    of time so I do not know when it started.

274.3Here's the order infoBAGELS::MONDOUWed Feb 22 1989 12:3437
    It has been puiblished for at least three years as I have received
    them free at the Boston boat shows. The NYNEX rep's at the shows
    claim anyone with a registered boat in Mass or RI will receive
    a free copy in the mail. But, although I have had a registered
    boat in Mass, this is the first year I received a copy by mail.

    It's also available for other areas at a higher cost.
    Personally, I don't think it's worth $5.00 for the Mass/RI version.

    But, here's the order info anyway;

274.4FREE at the BAYSIDE BOAT SHOWHAZEL::YELINEKWITHIN 10Wed Feb 22 1989 14:3310
    Go to the Nynex booth at the Boat Show for your copy. In addition to
    the book you get a zip-lock bag to keep it dry........on the boat...and
    a bright Big yellow plastic bag to keep all the garbage you collect
    at the show in....AND a Yellow keychain that suppose to float! 'Course
    my kids usually chew it up before I get to use it.

274.5Bigger and betterLEVERS::SWEETCapt. Codfish...GW Fishing TeamWed Feb 22 1989 16:376
    I keep one at home, one in the boat and one in my desk. It is
    a great source of info when you need to comparison shop or just
    get idea's on where to find something. I get them in the mail
    and at the shows. Each year it has gotten bigger and better.

274.6No Charge for Boating Yellow PagesTHOTH::BONETTIWed Feb 22 1989 18:003
    I just called the toll free number listed at the end of .3. The
    person I spoke to said that there is no charge to boaters for the
    book.
274.7WOODRO::LAYTONWed Feb 22 1989 19:164
    I suspect the cover price qualifies it as a periodical or newspaper
    for postage purposes.

274.8Anybody got extra copies?WMOIS::MELANSON_DOMWed Jun 07 1995 18:397
    Someone posted a note in the classified_ads conference asking for one
    of these. Apparently, NYNEX is not publishing these anymore... I
    could use one of these myself since I am going to be slipping my boat
    in RI and cruising the mass and RI coast. Does anybody out there have
    some extra copies that they can spare?

    Thanks in advance... Dom (Who lives in Townsend and works in Nashua)

    nynex book starting last week.
