I believe that Carrera is a west coast performance boat...so us east
coasters will have to differ to you west coasters for an answer on that
    one.

I can tell you that they are a west coast manufactured boat
well built and big bucks. if you read "powerboat magazine" there
is often a test report on them.

    Jim,

How's the world been treating you since your move out west? Going after
a Carrara? It's a different ball game when you are considing a 23.5'
performance Day Cruiser over a 31' ocean fairing cruiser.

There is a place close to where I live here in Merrimack, N.H.(
    southern N.H.). that sells Carrera's, Cole's, Eliminator's and Vantage
boats. As you can see this guy sells nothing but Performance day
cruisers and mostly California built. I'll check to see what his
thoughts are on the Carrera for you.

From what I've read it's already been said. Very nice workmanship, well
    laidout and "Big Bucks"!!!

    regards,

I never did buy that Baja 250 Sport. I bought another house instead.
Still think I should have bought the Baja!!

    Bob,

I appreciate the help..I hope the guy gives you some good info..I have
looked at all the ones you mentioned but did not like the low freeboard
of the traditional "California" style rigs..The Carrera reminded me of
the good ol' salt water performance rigs, and the quality seemed to be
right up there with Cigarette etc..I finally sold the 43' express so
now I can get another..Also Carrera will put in about any power you
want and I intend to use the 572 C.I. Hawk..
I look forward to your info

    Thanks

572 CI Hawk!!!! How big a Carrera are we talking about here? That's
some big HP for a Carrera isn't it?

834.6a good point, additional questionsUPWARD::WOYAKFri May 31 1991 17:2217
    re. -1..The unit is a 23.5 Classic..You also raise a good point..

I have had Boats with twins for a long long time and they were all
in the 30+' range. I have had several high performance boats including
a couple of cigarette's with the Hawks and they were fine high
performance motors and now even have a 1 year waantee..The size of
the boats along with the trim tabs, twin motors, etc. made them very
stable even at speed. 80+ mph in a 35' with the big hawks and
    speedmasters. No problem..
My question is how different is this type speed going to be in a much
smaller boat (23.5' or so)..Is the single engine and short lenght going
to create alot of chine walk..??..Are things like big K planes
necessary to fool the boat into thinking it is longer to get away from
things like chine walk..??.At speed are tabs really necessary in this
size boat for added stability and trim..
I appreciate any comments..I am looking to get at least 85+ mph..

834.7How many MPH???STEREO::RONEYMon Jun 03 1991 19:2928
    Jim,

you are talking about getting 85+ mph in a 23.5' boat with a 24 degree
dead rise hull. Well, I think that the speed can be accomplished as
long as you can keep the hull in the water. being under control in a
boat that size at that speed is something else to discuss.

You mentioned chine walking etc, that will probably the worst problem
with others like getting it to plane, handling, engine torque steering,
    etc!!

I think if it were me looking to hookup a 572 HAWK in a smaller hull
boat I would pick the 25' size to work with. a few more feet in the
water makes a world of difference. I have friends, as mentioned in some
of our past conversations, that have done all kinds of things with the
25' Checkmate Convincor hull. The latest is a Blown 454 Magnum that
will do 85+ mph and more, if you have the B___s to try it. The biggest
problem that was found after the engine was rigged and setup was to get
a prop big enough to get the horse power out of the engine and into the
water to push the boat at those speeds!

A point of information, maybe you should get intouch with a Checkmate
dealer and see what they have to offer. They have come out with some
new stuff in the last year that may interest you.

85+ mph in a 23.5' boat, "TOTALLY AWESOME", do it!!!!!!!!!..........
