OK, here's some kind a hint.
The "artist" is the son of a Phoenix minister and had his name
legally changed when he took the reigns of a local band known as
The Earwigs (and others as well)..
He has a reputation for theatrics including a live boa constrictor!

| Phoenix gave it away for me. This artist shocked a lot of pre-baby
boomers with his outrageous makeup and stage shows in the '70s.
Perhaps more shocking to his fans was the disclosure that during his
free time he enjoyed playing golf at the local country club. His real
name is Vince Furnier, but he's better known to fans as
Alice Cooper.
Unfortunately, I'm at a loss to name the tune. . .

Foaming like a dog that's been infected by the rabies.

tune.

| Thanks, >M<; glad you posted that when you did as I was about to
second guess myself - for some reason I got to thinking that the title
was "Billion Dollar Babies".
^
Anyway, given the advent of the "Tunes Older Than 20 Years" topic, I'm
not sure what the parameters for this topic should be. For now I'll
assume that it's "between 10 and 20 years old."
Ok. This lyric is from this band's "signature" (i.e. most famous)
song:
"Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man,
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man."

"Once I rose above the noise and confusion,
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion.
I was soaring ever higher,
but I flew too high.
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man,
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man."
Hints: this rock band was considered avant-garde in its use of violin
and classical forms and was, early on, blessed with the talents of the
incomparable Steve Morse. The song itself is a mainstay of "classic
rock" radio playlists.

below) was released, the leader wasn't real sure it was going to do
much. So, rather than quit his day job at Polaroid, he took a leave of

"We were just another band out of Boston,
On the road and trying to make ends meet.
Playin all the bars, sleeping in our cars,
We would practice right on out in the street.

15.158 | re .156 "our" song.... | LJSRV1::LAMBRECHT | The Spirit of Bavaria | Fri Apr 21 1995 01:46 | 25 |
| Hello BenJ,
I agree in one thing:
- music cannot be property.
Music is made BY free spirits, free souls FOR free spirits,
free souls. You find yourself reflected in the music you hear.
The songwriter's intention was.... to associate the same feelings
in the audience as he had when writing and compositioning.
But also.....
During this associative process suddenly there is a recognition,
a realization of equality, the point where someone really feels
the same. Then the song suddenly pulls a string. A whole flood
of association is going on and the intense becomes immense.
THEN comes the point where this person makes the song part of
his/her life. He/she doesn't mean to put limits or chains to
the music, but moreover expresses his/her being touched by it.
That's when people call songs "their" songs.
Yours musically,
Martina
;)

15.176 | Some facts!!! | MXOC00::CSILVA | | Mon May 08 1995 04:16 | 28 |
|
Yes, "Heroes" was composed by David Bowie and Robert Fripp.
Fripp it's the founder of King Crimson, the supposed first progressive
rock band. Robert also plays the guitar along with Bowie's guitarrist
Carlos Alomar and some chords played by Bowie himself.
Exists one cover live version from the early years of the Velvet
Underground, with Nico ("Le femme fattal") singing.
"We colud beat them, forever and EVER!,
oh! we could be heroes just for one day!"
For many people (including me), that song it's an hymn.
Historically it's very important because people recognizes to Bowie,
Fripp, Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel the founders of the 80's pop sound
since the mid 70's.
If any of you don't care about this writing, it's OK,
But just as BenJ said, listen to it, and love it...
From a sunny Sunday in Mexico City

hiatus in a movie where she did parachuting with either Charlie Sheen
or Keannu Reeves.
