	Hi, my name is Tom Gilfoy, a.k.a. Gilley.  I've been "read only"
	in the ::FRIENDS note now for about a month and a half.  Now
	it's time to enter a note to break the ice.

	I am presently w*rking <---I caught on quickly, at PKO1 for the
	Digital Telecommunications Org.  In one week from today we will
	be moving to LKG1.  I've been with DEC for 9 years, well actually

  My name is Paul, .. I've been reading this file off and on for a month
  or so, and decided it sounds like a great place to meet some new people!

  About me: (the boring details) Well, I work in MRO4, I'm a senior engineer,
  working in a marketing support group. I do a lot of work on Alpha. 
  
  (the not so boring) .. Well, I just turned 30 (ouch! that sounds so old!)
  I still feel and act much younger at times!  I love staying active, doing
  a ton of different things.  I try my  best to stay in as best shape as
  possible. (of course, I'm not always successful!) I love playing volleyball
  and tennis, and working out on my soloflex at home, (great machine!) but
  find I don't get a chance to work out as  much as I would like.  
  
  I'm a DJ on my spare time; I pencil sketch and sometimes do pen and ink; 
  I write both poetry and prose; I produce theatre in marlboro and do tech 
  for theatre around this area also.  I love to cook and collect wine .. 
  AND I love parties and going out!! (going out dancing & clubbing too!)

  My better half (Amy) lives with me, she's a mere 22 and keeps me young!
  She pretty much likes to do the same things as me (except cook! bummer).
  We both tend to be very liberal and open minded .. love clothing optional
  beaches and places! (you can also catch me in the naturism file)

Well, I think I'll sign in again, too.  It's been over a year since my first
intoduction, and the membership has had significant changes since then!
My name ia Laura, aka Lola. I work in Maynard at the Mill in the TME department.
I'm an Electro-mechanical Tech IV. Enough about w*rk!

My interests are varied - I like crafts, cats, cooking, travelling, Jazz,
Reggae and soft rock, camping, gardening, museums...I could go on, but that's
enough for now!

On the personal side, I'm engaged to a great guy (Steve), who treats me wonder-
fully.  We've been engaged for two years now, and I plan on a long, long happy

    I have a few things to add about myself.
    
    I am happily married, and my hobbies include walking, swimming,
    softball, crafts such as making my own clothes, needlepoint, before my
    son was born, I played the flute and sang in the church.  Since going
    back to work fulltime and being a fulltime, it is hard to make it to
    practices and rehearsals so I gave up for the moment.  I do not
    consider myself drop-dead gorgeous but I am pretty.  I love animals,
    except snakes, them I can do without but if I had a choice I guess I
    could get to like them. And most important of all is that I love
    FOOD!!! which is the cause of my excess weight, but I am happy and
    that's all that counts.

       this is going to be a short, but hopefully sweet afair with this
    notes conference...
     My name is Soner Bekir, sometimes known as Yogi, and often called lots
    of offensive names. I'm in my mid-twenties, 6ft 2 inches (tall), (well
    it could have been wide !!!), and of mediteranean origins. I'm
    currently working at Digital Utrecht (Holland) but I 'll only be here
    until the 22nd of December, as I've just accepted an offer to go and
    work in Spain. I'm English by birth, Cypriot by blood and European for
    practicalities sake, I'm single, (but not looking), and enjoy
    travelling, biking (motorbiking that is), skiing, caving, reading etc.

    and spring.  Then things got hectic in life, went through some changes
    and all that stuff.  Well, after months of this that and the other
    thing, I am back to being my old self.  (as apposed to being myself

    Sega Megadrive games, Go-Kart racing and posing about on Saturday

    in MRO1 and live in Marlboro itself. I have been Lurking (reading) this

    say, and became impressed with the positive and friendly relations
    going on so I decided to take the plunge and sign in even though I

    pulley's) kinda give away my age saying this, everyone now-a-days use

    shooting events, Love to read, some favorites would be The Stand and
    some mind candy erotic thrillers which keep the front and back of the
    brain warmed up but do some weired things to my attention span when in

    What else, let me see....6 ft tall, about 170, hazel eyes and graying

    mosey-ing and checking ::Friends sporadically, and decided it's time
    to make a habit of reading on a more regular basis, so I better sign
    in and make it official (how's that for major pussy-footing around
    and procrastinating an intro..;-))?
    
    I work at DECWest, (appropriately located in Bellevue Washington)
    and I don't refer to the translation beautiful view, but it's more
    like the famous "nut house" (technical term) in NYC!  I am a
    Software Engineer, but am currently doing a "personal LOA", so any

    It's becoming "the season" that I love to live in Wa. -- crisp
    sunny days, breezy and cloudy, and long days...at our apex, we
    can have days that last from about 3:45 AM to 10:00 PM (meaning 
    daylight hours -- the downside is winter is about 4 - 5 hrs. of
    daylight...but heck, the days are getting longer...I really like
    having at least 2 days in one!
    
    I'm a major bibliophile, and am what a friend called me, a Pizzatarian,
    that is Pizzaholic and Vegitarian combined, and so, now living in the 
    Great North Left after living in New England, am in 4 year he*l..as
    they just don't do pizzas (right)!  
    
    I live with 2 cats, Cassieopia Yu, (Cassie, Casling, Castle,
    Dammitcassi!), and Yoko Aouimeh, (Yoko, Yokomama, Yokoling, meatloaf
    kitty etc.. named Yoko because as a kitten she sang
    ahhahahhhadhhhadeeeha or something like that -- just like Yoko Ono!).
    
    Me, I am Zoe, currently single, 40 (going on 17), long brown curly
    hair, blue eyes, and just started a class in TKD last week, and am
    feeling bruised and battered and yet thoroughly enjoying the
    exhiliration of doing a move right, or even trying some stuff (like,
    ack, falling!!!! face first!) and hope to help get "centered and
    grounded and fit"!

I work in Nashua NH - USA in an International Engineering group.  
I do love my job on most days and it keeps me pretty busy.

I love to read - mostly fiction and poetry.  I'm owned by a small 
dog who adores me and always listens to my problems most 
intently.  I enjoy sunshine, good wine, tall men with cute accents 
and chocolate but not necessarily in that order or in combination.
(I think the combination would kill me, actually)

Personally, I'm 27, female, short and cute in a weird sort of way.  I'm 
wild about a Dutchman that I call kiddo.  I have a sarcastic
sense of humor and it gets me in to trouble at times.  I'm a

Gawd, give some women and inch, and they want EIGHT!

Hmmmm... Jim Reith, contractor, looking for things to brighten my day while
waiting for the fastest machine in the world (on the slowest network branch) to
compile code. I'm a software whore currently in the Mill. I have a black wagon
with 320k miles on it (all mine) that has taken me all over. An hour commute
each way for 15 years but I live in the boonies and enjoy going home each night
to nature and my animals.

I have a model airplane manufacturing business in my basement that sucks up all
available time yet doesn't offset my paycheck contracting. Someday, I'll take
the cut in pay and live simply, hidden in my basement like my years of
highschool. Just send over a case of diet coke periodically 8^)

I'll probably <lurk> around a bit until I get the feel of the file (and who
might that be? 8^)

Currently, 1 dog, 1 rabbit, 8 cats, three kids (teenagers). Have had ducks and
turtles and snakes and lizards and we have wild turkeys, deer and pheasants that
wander through. Sure is nice living in the woods, a 10 minute walk from downtown.

What else do people really need to know?

Ok, since you're curious. I don't see a lot of my wife because she went back to
school fulltime and I'm flat out building a business. It was a pretty bad slip

Alas, she is a friend and companion and we hope to retire early to catch up with
our lives. We're living in her old hometown but out in the boonies where I
prefer. Good compromise.

  I am a software engineer in the Access Servers Group, part of the Networks
Product Group, at LKG in Littleton, MA.  I have been with Digital for 17(!)
years.
  I am single, in my 40's, a lifelong resident of New England. I live in 
Boxboro, MA, a town next to Littleton that is largely unknown to those outside
the Maynard area. 
  My interests are:

Railroads (real, not model). I go on train excursions when I can, which is not
often because there is not much railroad activity in this area.

Volkswalking. For those who don't know, this is an organized walk on a pre-
marked course, a different course every time, in which people start whenever
they want within a 3- or 4-hour time window and walk at their own pace. I do
3 or 4 of these a year, and also do a lot of walking on my own.

Local travel and visiting historic sites. Long-distance travel occasionally.
Occasional concerts (classical and jazz).

Science fiction.

  I first discovered this notesfile several years ago. I checked it about once
every six months but was discouraged because it seemed almost everyone was in
the U.K. I checked it yesterday and noticed there is now a lot of activity in
MA/NH, both in the conference and with people getting together. 
  We really need this now because things are really "dead" in Digital. A lot
of the things that used to bring people together, such as the Digital Singles
Walking Club, have folded and the social interaction we used to have at work

    Whee to begin??? Well, I once was a member of this file but that was
    years ago or so it seems. I am a visually impaired user and my system
    just didn't allow me to be able to read well enough to keep up. Well,
    I'm happy to say I hae a new system with excellent software and can
    read  anything I so desire now YES!!!;-)
    
    Let's see, I should say something about moi hmmmmm? OK I'm 36 years
    old, been with DEC for almost 15 years now, love the outdoors, rock
    music saw Floyd back in May but love new bands too as well as the
    classics. I enjoy the note where one tries to figure out the artist of
    songs older than 10 years. I may get into that one;-) Han't checked out
    the zillion other topics yet but i'm sure I'll find some to keep me
    awake and entertained;-).
    
    I'll tell you more later but just wanted to take a minuteand check in.
    Oh, I do most of my reading and witing from home so most of my replies
    would be apt to come during eening hours, unless i have a slow day at

    single and I work for Digital for 8 months. (in the finance dpmt)
    
    I like travelling, photographing, writing, reading (fantasy, travel
    guides), music, noting, cooking and a couple of other things (like
    soccer and history) :-)
    
    My favourite country is Italy. Therefore, I have an Italian P_name.
    Beside Italian and English I speak a little Spanish and I try to learn

        Until now I have been mostly a read only noter.  I have attended a
    get together with Holly and the gang this past year and had a really good
    time.  
    
        I have been with DEC almost 11 years now (that is hard to believe)
    and still keep hanging on.  I work in FAB4 at Hudson on the part of the 
    process called ETCH.  
    
        Am presently working the COMPRESSED (better know as the depressed)
    shift with an occasional extra day to help pay the bills.  Usually I
    work from Sunday to Tuesday with adding every other Wednesday.  I enjoy
    all the banta in these files and hope to meet up with some of you at
    one time or another.

    I did intro myself somewhat in another topic (Thank You).  I find
    it interesting to mosey around files that are open minded.  I don't
    go for dumping on people due to their differences.  We are all in 
    this together.

    6 1/2 years permanent, 4 years DECtag, several years contracting
    is my mileage in this institution.  I started it all back in 1980
    so I know several shades of DEC/Digital.  I have one of the shortest
    commutes other than a few others at this facility (3/4 mile or 
    1 1/2 round trip).

	Lola, not to worry, butterbeans are green wrinkled veggies that look
like flattened peas, and are the nastiest tasting things I have ever put in my
mouth. Besides, I always make exceptions, for nice people like you seem to
be.;^). Lima Beans are white, moldy looking, and a little bigger than
Butterbeans.  They taste about the same. Course I haven't seen Limas since I
moved to the big city of Atlanta. 

	Martina, I like you already.  Once you mention red hair, I go into a
daze. =:*o. I meant Yankee as in a person from the northern, frigid climes of
the United States.  They are frequently seen heading towards Georgia in RV's on
one of the Interstates.  You can recognize them immediately from the blue tone
of their skin.  They can't seem to understand temperatures in the 70's in
February.  The term "Yankee" has nothing to do with being from the States.

	Gina, I am certainly interested in seeing what a Gina Franceschi-bean
is.  That's not in an encyclopedia somewhere is it? :^)))).

	I am becoming too verbose now.  Thanks to all of ya'll for your kind
words of welcome.

    modelers and spent a significant amount of time in SHR. Both took back 
    several of the models I manufacture. I have Hartmut's current address. I 
    haven't had a chance to write him recently but was very sad with the 
    closing of KBO and the loss of some good net.friends

    I'm working in my final work for my career, doing some work in
    a new technique for producing synthesized sounds digitally and also

    I don't have friends married, but most of my friends are at school.
    It's not common that people at school think about marriage. I'm near to
    finish my career, maybe some pals will be making plans for the next 2 or 
    3 years, but know, except one guy that says he will be marrying her
    girlfriend in 2 years, NOBODY thinks about it.
    
    Personally I mantain a mental list of things to do before i die, must
    of it i think will be doing before making any plans to get married.
    
    (And one thing of course it's to visit France).

    Hello everybody in ::friends
          I'm Noli. Guess from where am I? I'm from the Philippines. I
    don't know if I am the first Filipino here but I know everybody is
    welcomed to join in, so here I am.
          I'm presently working here in DEC Taiwan as a overseas con-
    tract worker(the biggest dollar earner in Philippine Economy) for
    about 8 months. It's quite a shock eventhough we know we will be 
    with Mandarin speaking people, learning to speak Chinese is more
    fun and exciting that I thought.
          Anyway, back to me, I'm 24 years old, about 5 ft. 5 in. I 
    like to have friends but this is my first time to have them, shall
    we say - INTERNATIONALLY. I know I'll learn more about other cultures
    and informations will have no boundaries. I am very interested to 
    learn more knowledge about computers(especially with regards to
    robotics and servo-mechanisms).
          Well I hope I am welcomed, and hope to earn some friends in
    here; better yet, MANY FRIENDS IN HERE..........right?

    I'll try to answer questions about our land. But pardon me for my

Well, I figure I should update my stats from the one in.228

I'm not longer in the Mill but in Shrewsbury working on Video on Demand
software which has cut my commute in half.

My wagon now has 354k miles on it but that's because I drove "Pink Lightning"
for several months while my wife's car was off the road. Pink Lightning has
160k and my wife's sedan has 200k now and is back on the road.

I had thought I'd <lurk> for a bit. I guess those days are over!

Still have the one dog and one rabbit but we're down to 5 cats, three kids but
the oldest is seldom home and we got another dozen ducks this spring which is
now down to 7 through attrition. Add 1 red fox to the list of local wildlife
and you'll understand how/why. My wife finished her undergraduate degree (math)
in 5/94 and has since gone back to grad school and should finish her masters
the end of next summer (english) on her way to a PhD to teach at the college
level.

    Yeah, just me and the brits in early. (5:30 for me today) and Ray from
    Holland and Ravi from India (missed him today). I'm usually one of the
    first in from here. Not many have been around lately. That damn w word

    I'm Jamie Badman. I've been in here before; a long, long time ago.
    People have come and gone (including myself) and it's interesting to
    see how the conference just seems to keep ticking over! I think Ravi
    (if it's the *same* Ravi; the thoughtful one!) is the only person here
    I recognise anymore.
    
    Anyway, I'm male, 30 years old, live in the UK; Reading, Berkshire.
    Work in Basingstoke (Skippetts House) for a company called Basys which
    is wholly owned by Digital.
    
    Interests ? Well I like bluffing-style games so I'm into cards. I play
    a cool game called 'Magic: The Gathering' to a high standard which is
    one of the ultimate bluff/skill games I know. I like to try to keep fit
    - I'm down the gym pretty well every lunchtime now. Play squash (though
    I have a kneecap on the back of my leg now so I'm going to take it a
    little easy for a while). I also like to use my imagination alot which
    is neat in a conference like this where you can sort of build up
    pictures of each of the personalities here! Wouldn't it be neat if
    everyone here were to draw what they thought everyone else looked like
    and the pictures were all scanned in ? ;-) They'd be sort of the
    embodiment of what we're like inside!

    on a place in the last world championships by one game! Still, next

    BTW how exactly *did* the picture exercise work out ? I wouldn't be so
    interested in whether the pictures looked like the people - the
    interesting thing would be the similarities between all the pictures of
    the same person...

    A fleshmeet is when cyber-buddies meet in person. There were 20+ of us
    from as far away as Utah and Nova Scotia and it was quite entertaining.
    The pictures all diverged but the explanations were priceless. You'd
    need to know the group to understand the chuckles.

    My favorite things to do are eating strawberry shortcake, dancing on
    moonbeams and tickling other little elves who can't run as fast as I

    My hopes and dreams? Well, all mine came true - I hope yours do also!
    
    I get little time for noting (darn it!) but I like to pop in here every

    In my spare time, I sprinkle gold and silver fairy dust all over the

    I'm Patty Weier ... a system manager in ZKO (that's Nashua, New
    Hampshire, USA, in case you haven't memorized the site codes (-;)
    I've been with DEC (hey, I don't care, I'm STILL calling it DEC!),
    since I was 18 (1981 - you can do the math yourself (-;)
    
    I live and work in Nashua, and have 3 of the world's most awesome
    kids!!  ALL boys (and I wouldn't have it any other way!).  They are;
    Christopher, age 10 (11 in May - he's a sensitive soul), Jason, just 
    turned 8 (he's my money-whizz, and sensitive, but don't let him know
    you know! (-;), and Jonathan, who's 2 1/2 (and the cutest by far - but
    that may just be the age.  He's all grown up all ready - ask him!)
    
    The older two boys have a different dad, and spend 1/2 their time with
    him, and 1/2 with me.  This seems to work best for all of us (and I
    must admit I enjoy the break sometimes...).  Jonathan is with me all
    the time.  His dad is with me sometimes - we've been off and on for the
    past 5 years or so, trying to get it figured out -- we might be on to
    something this time around.  Things are GOOD.  
    
    I saw reference to this notesfile from a string Holly woke up, in
    Parenting, and figured I'd check it out - you all sound like you have
    so much fun!!!  ...and I couldn't resist the "wish" note - I've been
    wishing that same wish for so many years now .... time FLIES!!

    Geez, Reg - I don't even tell the registry of motore vehicles THAT! 
    (well, at least not truthfully... (-;)
    
    BUT, what the heck ...
    
    I'm 5' 2 1/2" (but I say 5'3" cuz I hate being short!).  I weigh ....
    more than 100, less than 200!  Hmmmm .... let's say that I'm looking to
    lose about 15 pounds - hey, the scale actually BUDGED this morning, so
    now I'm just looking to lose another 13 1/2 .... I'll take the little
    losses.  Eyes ... no one can tell me.  They used to be brown.  Now
    they're more of a gold-brown color.  No one really notices until you
    say "Hey, what color are my eyes??"  and I mostly get "I have no idea!"
    (even after staring).  I wear glasses, and if I weren't so paranoid,
    I'd have contacts.  Being diabetic, I try to be extra careful,
    ESPECIALLY with my eyes - being blind must be one of the worst things
    in the world -- there's just TOO MUCH to see, that's truly awesome!
    
    I have brown hair, about shoulder length, have always been told I have
    a great smile.  There ... now if you trip over me in the hall, you
    MIGHT have a clue it's me (-;
    
    And now I have to scurry off the Merrimack again for the afternoon ....

    Well I am Martin some call me Marti or Marty or ahem(Can't say it in

    I am from Maybole a small village 9 miles south of Ayr.
    
    I am 29 years old been with Digital for 10 years and getting older
    everyday! 9-(.
    
    I work in the Stage 1 side of the plant, and work on the Solderwave
    we produce boards like Mustang, Palamino, Flamingo, Sandpiper, The list
    is endless.
    
    When I am not working I spend time in Mudville its a role playing game
    within the network in Digital. I am a Wizard called HARDMAN!.
    
    I have no kids, and am Divorced , looking and looking ahem!.

    Oh my.. it's been a LONG time since I've updated this!  since my intro

    Well.. I'm 29 now.  will be 30 on May 1.  Been a moderator here for
    quite some time (I think 2-3 years now).  I'm now married, and pregnant
    with our first child, due September 7th.
    
    I still show cats, and now have two turkish angoras, one abbysinian,
    one Korat, and a mixed breed who thinks she's the queen of the house. 
    Yes, that adds up to FIVE cats.  And no, I'm NOT crazy! (well.. ok.. I

    After being a read_only_noter in this conference for about a year, I
    thought I'd better sign in.
    
    My name is Scott Hamilton, I've just turned 21 (last month) I'm a
    Pisces. If I were to describe myself it would be something like this:
    
    5'10", dark brown hair, fairly fit, my weight goes up and down between
    13 and 14 stones depending on how I'm training. Bums ! I can't remember
    what colour of eyes I have ! They might be Greeny/brown with grey
    flashes in them. I also only have 9 fingers, DON'T LAUGH !!!! I lost
    my right pinky in a tragic beer-drinking accident 3 years ago. 
    
    
    I work in the technician group in Stage 1 manufacturing @AYO.
    
    Hobbies: playing rugby, going to the gym (4 times a week), abseiling off
             bridges(summer), snowboarding(winter) and a wee bit of
             hillwalking too.
    
    Loves: life, my cat Malcolm, Scotland, food (Fajitas, Kebabs, Pizzas)

    Been reading only for a wee while, so thought I would sign in and join
    in the fun. Sounds like a great bunch of folks in here.
    
    Anyway, a wee bit about me. My name is Gavin Beveridge, I work (hmmm)
    as a technician in stage 1 at the Ayr mabufacturing plant in sunny(?)
    Scotland. Been here for nearly 4 years now.
    I've a good sense of humour, like a good laugh and carry on most of the
    time when I'm supposed to be working. The group I work in is alright,
    a decent bunch of guys and gals, so that makes the place more bearable.
    I am 26 years old, a Capricorn, born on 3rd January 1970. Still at home
    with parents and livestock (1 dog - a Jack Russell terrier and 1 cat -
    slightly bald due to a hormone defficiency poor thing). I am in the
    process of getting my own flat and all being well, should move in on
    the 2nd of September. 
    I am 5'9" tall, have light brown hair and bluey/grey eyes, except at
    the weekend when they are usually red due to lack of sleep and having
    to haul my ass in here for overtime.
