This past weekend, I finally went to see Forrest Gump.
I had NO interest in this movie whatsoever, but I have
to admit, it was very good. I even cried....

    Me too!
The only part I didn't like was the long running scene...

I saw Little Women at the newly reopened "Last Strand"
movie theatre in Clinton, there's tables and they serve
food (I heard there's a place in Milbury also that does that)
I really enjoyed it, though like Brian says, there's not
really a plot, but it is a story...

    hi /jen!
It's right on High St, (kinda the "Main St" where all the local
    business are)
$4.00 for a movie... Changes weekly, current run movies?
They change every Friday, Shawshank Redemption is playing
right now, tomorrow nite Pulp Fiction will start...
I read it was the biggest screen in the area, but when I was
talking to the owner, he wasn't sure how big it was! In any
case, the movie picture doesn't fill it... The accoustics
aren't great, but I was there the 2nd nite they opened a
couple weeks ago, and they might not be adjusted yet? Or
it could be that it's so open in there and there were only
    6 people in the theatre...

hi don, which pub? there's so many to choose from (hehe)
actually, it's been a longtime running joke (and maybe true)
that clinton was known for the most pubs in a square mile...
now, it's more like the most pizza places in a square mile!

    /gina,

Actually, Clinton was in the guinnes(sp?) book of World Records at one
time (I believe the early 60's). For the most bar rooms per capita.
They had 42 bar rooms in a 5 mile radius.

twice. Hung out on High St. more than once as well. I know... you were all home

Do either of you have a "Where the hell is Clinton" t-shirt?

I used to have a a t-shirt that said "Where the H*ll is Clinton? Ask

113.27Braveheart: ExcellentLJSRV1::LAMBRECHTThe Spirit of BavariaTue May 30 1995 19:2228
    Braveheart: I loved it!

Mel Gibson was main actor and also the director.
And that says already something about the overall layout of the
    story...

It was about the life of a Scotsman in the medieval times while the
English oppression. It contained the whole range of loving romanticism,
heartbreaking love tragedy, very realistic shots about the daily
living environment in those times and...... battles, fights, blood
    tears and sweat.

I absolutely loved it. It shows depth and an intense understanding
of the hero's longing for his people to gain freedom from the English
    oppression.
I absolutely loved the realicism. The people shown were not the kind
of far fetched noble clean knights shown in eg the old medieval time
movies. People were messy, dirty and ..... full of blood. Very real.
An additional word about realicism: the battle scenes indulged in
reality. Blood everywhere, cutting off arms, heads, legs. Also a lot
of action. Some shots were taken in slow motion to intensify the
    scene's impression.
Mel Gibson is, as always, absolutely fabulous. A die hard action hero
with a heart and a romantic soul.

Lots of blood and guts as Tom says. ;) ;) ;)

113.28Jonny MnemonicLJSRV1::LAMBRECHTThe Spirit of BavariaThu Jun 08 1995 03:4228
I saw Jonny Mnemonic last Saturday. Here is a brief review:

It was not a great movie..
But..... the actor who played the role of Jonny himself was definitely
    worth a closer look. ;)
The movie contains a lot of stupid scenes. Although I liked the
special effects with a laser wip. The story was kindo inconsiderately
put together. A lot was just not logical.
Some stuff even was an insult for intelligence.

And only the main actor was cute. So it was even no indulgence for a
    female eye.
The brutality level was moderate. People cut diagonal by the laser
wip, hands nailed to a wall, heads cut off, a person was falling
down to the water with body and head seperately and a guy gets burned
    to death.
    But that was already it.

    No romance at all.

But: I liked the reference to "Terminator" at the end of the movie.
    ;)

    Personal impression:
I found the main actor cute. I was awake during the violent scenes.
But the rest was pretty boring.

113.36Judge DreddLJSRV1::LAMBRECHTTwo thumbs up for Hu(wo)manityMon Jul 10 1995 18:4016
I saw Judge Dredd on Saturday. It was nice. Not extraordinary
phantastic, but nice. The special effects were neat and I loved
especially the scenes with the Statue of Liberty right in the middle
of the streets of MegaCity... ;) Today it is hopefully still located
on an island in the ocean. ;)
Sylvester Stallone acts in his very own and very known style like he
always does. His role gets away without intelligent conversation as
always... but he is cute and plays his role with emphasis, as always.
;) I did not feel how fast the time went, it was just the right kind
of entertainment for my bubbly action oriented mind.
And I think the phrase "I knew you'd say that" spoken in a very deep
voice without clear pronounciation will soon become a bonmot. ;)

My girlfriend and I rented three movies over the weekend, the reviews
    are as follows:

    * NEEDFUL THINGS - The storyline seemed to be quite refreshing, as it
hasn't been written a million different ways like most other plots. The
special effects only added to the reality of the movie. Thumbs up.

    * AWAKENINGS - Very, very touching story. At first, I wasn't going to
rent it, but it proved to be beyond my expectations. Although it has a
twisted ending, it reminded me of how much we take for granted. Thumbs
    up.

    * UNDER FIRE (?) - (Sydney Poitier (sp?) as an FBI agent going after a
murderer/diamond thief - unsure of the name.) Although this movie
appeared to be "old" - with a preview of GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM (another
excellent movie!) - it was relatively good, although in certain points
the characters don't follow-through with actions their personalities
would suggest. However, the final scene is well worth the wait. Thumbs
    horizontal - so/so.
