383.0. "Jerk or Turkey?? You decide!" by MKOTS3::STARBRIGHT (Serenity) Tue Jan 09 1996 18:21

    And now for something different!

Here it is, your chance to vent a little steam and let this FRIENDly
forum decide whether or not each scenario depicts a jerk or a turkey. I
tend to think of Jerks as people who know better but don't care and
Turkeys as people who know better but don't plan their
    time/conversation/finances/etc. wisely.

Enter your scenario and let the votes pour in!!

383.1Clean off your danged old car!MKOTS3::STARBRIGHTSerenityTue Jan 09 1996 18:2411
Now for my pet peeves in this kinda stormy snowy weather.

The person in the small late model car that used their wipers to remove
just enough snow from their windshield to be able to move forward.
Meantime, all the other snow is blowing off in front of you creating a
hazard. You, of course, spent 5 extra minutes cleaning all the snow off
    your own vehicle.

    Jerk or Turkey?
    You decide!

Jerky! Especially when the whole bunch of snow comes at you with
hurricane force going down the highway.

How about those _s that ride so close to your car in a storm that you
can't even see their headlights in your rearview mirror...

	Turkey or jerky??

383.3Slow down! That's ice under your wheels!MKOTS3::STARBRIGHTSerenityTue Jan 09 1996 18:3011
Those are jerks in my opinion.

And what about the ones who ignore all the signs of bad weather, all
the signs of other vehiles moving at slower but reasonable speeds that
sail by you doing twice the speed of any other car on the road?

    Grrrrr.

    Jerk or Turkey?
    You decide!

Something tells me we need to add one more name to this.. "idiot".
I've come across a few of them!!

Ok.. you decide... the person who behind you who, when you are trying
to pull out onto a street and are a little stuck, comes RIGHT up behind
you, impatient as can be, and you can't move in either direction..

    Jerk, Turkey, or idiot??

From the news reports yesterday with all the pictures of the 4x4s in the snow
banks, many people forget that a 4 wheel drive is only helpful to get going.
When stopping, the same coefficient of friction applies, regardless of how the
engine is connected to the wheels, four wheels will stop the same as any other
drivetrain.

true...mind you ...if you use your engine to slow down and have a 4 x 4
to help direct you then you are in much better shape than a 2 wd car.

But how many people actually gear down rather than use brakes.

383.10Hold on! I don't know what's coming yet!MKOTS3::STARBRIGHTSerenityThu Jan 11 1996 16:3215

Right now on many corners, betwixt the snow plows and snow blowers,
snow is mounded up over the drivers viewing area when coming out of a
side street onto another street. In my case, I sorta inch forward until
I can get a clear view of oncoming traffic (who seem to be going at
mind breaking speeds!) Of course the dum-dum behind me is impatient and
begins to do all matter of very cute things including horn blowing,
high beam flashes and the angry fist/finger salute. I always proceed
when it is safe and flash them my prettiest smile in the rearview.

But I do still think of them as jerks. (Peace love and light to all
    jerks, turkeys and idiots)

Serenity, I think you should flash them a moon instead of a smile,
especially after they've given you the finger salute!

Serenity giggles with delight, "O Lola, you silly, my moon is always
Full and t'would never be worth the acrobatics required to do so from
    my itty bitty little vehicle!"

    PS: Keep encouraging me! ;)

True, she needs none, but inspiration is never a bad thing! Serenity, I did
consider the acrobatics required for such a feat, and realize it would be
difficult!!! I did, however get mooned by a guy in a truck once...guess he
was talented :-)))

> I did, however get mooned by a guy in a truck once...

I hope you asked him to stop and left the truck soon after 8^)

My mother tells a story about my British grandfather who, recently off the
boat, failed to leave a stoplight as quickly as the person behind him wanted.
When he heard the horn he stopped, the person behind was now boxed in with a
car close behind, went back to the car and asked the person if he knew him. (my
grandfather was the size to pull this off in his day) He played dumb tourist
and eventually got back in his car at the now, red again, light. There was
silence the next cycle 8^)

Obviously, this would be somewhat foolish to do these days but it surprised me

circa 30s I'm told...
