    Hi
    	Because my car has been stolen recently I am trying to think of
    ways to protect it when it comes back, has anybody got any ideas, I
    would be all ears for some deterents, what do you folks do to guard
    against the theft of your cars, I had mine deadlocked and alarmed,
    so tell whats best to keep them away.

    warm regards
    		Mick.

    then! :->

    Do they offer 'retrieve' services like LoJac in your area?
    I recently opted for that. The majority of people don't do anything
    when they hear a car alarm go off...so I question their effectivity.

    	I question what you mean by 'deadlocked'. Do you mean a kill switch
    that switches off the ignition so the car can't be started? I would
    suggest an alarm that contains a kill switch PLUS something like "The
    Club" (device that locks to the steering wheel preventing it from being
    moved). Also, get one of those alarms that has a pager system (it pages
    you when the alarm is set off).

    	Parking in well lit areas and avoiding leaving the car overnight in
    secluded places helps too. :)

    p.s. - a thief who wants your car bad enuff will get it, no matter what
    security measures you take. Don't go spending megabucks on an alarm
    system.

    Have the license plate of your car etched in small print in every
    window.

    This cannot be removed and the only way that a thief can hide the
    identity of the car is to replace all of the window glass.

    No thief could afford what it costs to do that!

    Hi, RE:7
    This is a good move but its not the windows its the wheels they
    were after and got the radio and cassette my personal things, a
    bit of good news is they have caught one of the thieves and got
    some of my gear back, what they normally do in the area where I
    live is to burn the car out after they have what they want.

    Warm Regards

    Mick.

    Hi Rick,
    	You hit the nail on the head there, trouble is I would need
    	a 300% pay rise to livr the other side.
    					       Pray tell Rick where
    	is your abode, only as rumour has it there are parts over
    	your side that are less than paradise.

    	Well I come from Leeds... Car Crime capital of the north.. if you
    have a good radio & its not practically nailed into your car then it

    Well you could just take a feed from the coil run it to the fuel tank
    via a switch and when you park the car flick the switch .So when
    someone tries to steal it it bursts into flames and saves them the
    trouble of torching it later.....you loose the car but at least you
    have reduced the criminal count by one.

    	Yes I think this is the most practical thing to do, The police
    	have got one of the thieves they never cease to amaze me, the
    	only thing I can think of is they must of picked him up drink
        driving or speeding cause they are not normally this good.

        Cheers

    The best way to protect yourself from theives is to get to know them.
    The second best way is to not have what they want. I like the Lada
    idea.
    Third, and I offer this solution to all who have problems with their
    assorted vehicles, and be warned I have no, ie. not a scrap, of pity
    for car problems (I've never owned one and dont plan on wasting my hard
    earned money on one) TAKE THE BUS!!

    But, alas, I have no bus service in my town and riding one of the local
    cows the 50 miles to work would be... unproductive.

    I feed my car money and check the gas

    Cars beat the &^%$ out of riding the bus!!
    Just get an economy car that doesn't cost much. Good on gas
    don't cost much and thieves aren't much interested in them.

    You can get in big trouble for stealing buses these days though - they
    cost a huge sum!

292.22An Excellent idea from the brain of VMS.QCAV02::VMSRINIVASWed Mar 29 1995 09:1713
    Hi Mick,

    	This VM Srinivas (QCAV01::VMSRINIVAS).
    I can offer you a good idea for the safety of your car if u get it
    back.
    THE IDEA:
          * Take off the tyres.
    		or
    	  * Drive the car in a one way so that you can park it in the
            Police station (The safest Place on earth).
    All the best.

292.23How to have money ALL the time?VYGER::BONEMI am the seed!Tue Jul 30 1996 00:2524
    I thought I would put this in the topic as its related .

    I am looking for a system of how you can pay all your bills on time
    and still have money to spend on yourself after this.

    How do you work your money. At the moment I have been slightly off
    with my bank and been overdrawn and a few direct debits have been
    refer to payer, thus causing large bank charges. so It alway seems
    to happen at the end of the month.

    So I have opened a deposit(savings account) with keycard to have my
    free funds put into it everyweek from my weekly wages which go into
    my chequeplus account (current). therefore my bill and extra money will
    acumalate for the month ending. I have a set amount giving to me from
    the bank each week. but also do not have a switch/delta or cheque card.
    all on standing order or direct debit.

    What I am looking from you all do you have a system you would like
    to share that you feel gives you money at ALL times and you a never
    skint(no money). whats your system.

    8-).
