456.0. "Current SNMP Status for DECconcentrator 500s" by SANFAN::RICHARDS_LA () Thu Jan 23 1992 00:57

    Hi There,

Our customer recently purchased 6 Cisco FDDI routers and 5 DEC
concentrator 500s. For network management they have Cisco's Net
Central station. They have not been able to access the
    DEC concentrators using SNMP.

Can you please tell me if the DEC concentrators are being shipped with
an SNMP agent and if that agent supports both gets and sets. From
reading note 257 it looked like we would be supporting both gets and
    sets by Q2FY92...

    Thanks,

    Laurie Richards

    	Hi,

To access your DECconcentrator 500 using SNMP, your
DECconcentrator must be at rev. 3.0 of firmware. This version
is available since some months, so it must not be a problem
to get it if unfortunately, you don't have it on your
    DECconcentrator.

DECconcentrator 500 v.3.0 of firmware allows only SNMP Get
command. You'll need the next version (3.1) for SNMP SET command,
it must be announced very soon, so your customer must purchase
    the upgrade firmware license.

To be able to access the DECconcentrator 500 through SNMP,
you must set an IP address on the box. Today, there is two way
    to do it :
. through BOOTP protocol from a node acting as BOOTP server
. through DEC Network Management software as DECelms, DECmsu v.1.1
    	  or DECmcc/DEC ELM v.1.0

Thanks Patrick! Your quick response is greatly appreciated.
456.3Vendor supplied MIB extension?CUJO::BROWNDave BrownThu Jan 05 1995 21:0531

My customer has several questions regarding the SNMP agent and the
vendor specific MIB for the DECconcentrator 500:

    	1) Is there a vendor supplied SNMP MIB extension for the DC500?
They have noticed that standard MIB-2, other than the GIGAswitch
vendor supplied MIB, is the only MIB available when registering
    	   a DC500 under DECmcc

    	2) What traps is the V3.4A DECconcentrator agent capable of
    	   generating? Where are they documented?

    	3) Is there a User's Manual available for the DC500 V3.4A SNMP
    	   Agent?

The reason that the customer would like to have answers to these
questions is because they want to move away from DECmcc as their
standard NMS and go purely SNMP. They realize that the Concentrator AM
for DECmcc is rich in features but they also realize that the CONC
access module has nothing to do with SNMP. They would like to see the
feature richness of the DECmcc CONC AM integrated into perhaps a vendor
    MIB extension for the DC500.

    	4) Is something like this planned or underway?

    	Thanks,

    	Dave
