664.0. "Bad FDDI XMI controllers??" by TILTS::HICE (hard to hit a moving target) Mon Aug 03 1992 22:53

We have a site that has had 3 FDDI controllers go bad in the last month on
a 6510. The symptoms were the controllers would not pass self test. The
site configuration is a FDDI concentrator with three (3) 6xxx systems
as single-attached stations.

Is there any further testing that can/could be done to isolate what has
caused these controllers to go bad? As far as I know, all replacement
controllers were installed in the same slot as the original in the 6510.

Thanks in advance for any information

You might have a SNAFU situation here. Try another XMI slot and make
sure your board is all the way in the XMI cage. Just out of curiosity..
Were all the boards in the same XMI slot ? And did it fail after
firmware upgrade or at some random time ?

All the replacement boards were installed into the same XMI slots.
However, as part of our action plan, we are moving the module to
    another slot.

    >when did it fail?
As far as I know the failure just started and there were no firmware
upgrades. At the present time, we have two different types of
    problems:
       1. DEMFA-AA fails it self test. Install new module, and everything
          is fine for a while
       2. logging of errors on the DEMFA-AA.
However, two other systems (both 6xxx), which are on the FDDI, aren't
    having any problems.
