73.0. "crimp and cleave. sounds cheap." by GLDOA::TREMBATH (Peter. Call when you get work...) Sat Jun 02 1990 21:50

Anybody know anything about a " crimp and cleave ST connector " by a
company called Ensign-Bickford. The company advertises these connectors
as requiring " No epoxy. No polish. 3 minutes. 5 dollars. "

Sounds to good to be true. What's the tradeoff ? Is DTAC evaluating
    these connectors ?

We(Canadian Technology Centre,Digital Canada) are currently evaluating
crimp and cleave ST's from AMp and other vendors(but not Ensign
Bickford as their connector only works with their large core ie not
    FDDI specialty fibers).
While testing is still in progress, don't hold your breath on this
technology. It seems quite poor(performance wise) when compared to
    traditional crimp/epoxy/polish style connectors.
Contact POLAR::NEUMANN(Rick) or POLAR::BRUTESCO(Flavio) for details.
