781.0. "Could Turbochannel FDDI controller hang a system ?" by LEMAN::AGASSIS () Tue Nov 10 1992 13:39

Hello,

    You can find here below a note posted in DECSYSTEM conference.

    I post it here, too, to ask you wether you know a situation when the
    FDDI board in Turbochannel would hang a DS5900 or 5000-240 due
    to some strange traffic ?

    Thank's in adavnce for your inputs and best regards !

    Thierry A.

Note 693.0            Intermittent hang / DS5900 / 4.2A...            No replies

    Hello Everybody,

    Is there a known problem with the DS5900.
    We have one which hangs intermitently (~twice a week).
    All the LEDs get on behind the box and there is no way to halt the
    system using the reset button. We have to turn it off then on
    to start again.

    They have 320 MB. a SCSI and FDDI options in Turbochannel
    and Prestoserve board.

    Thank's in advance and best regards !

Yes that's normal. Exactly what software do you have on that system?
781.3Ultrix 4.2A rev.47...LEMAN::AGASSISTue Nov 10 1992 15:448
    Sorry, here it is : Ultrix 4.2A rev.47.

    What other SW would you like to know something about. It's a very
    heavily used system with many applications !

    Best regards !

781.4Sounds like old SCSI control problem.SCHOOL::POMFRETTue Nov 10 1992 18:292
There is a problem with the old SCSI boards that caused this.
Contact Mike Savello product manager for more information.

781.6Seems to be fixed...LEMAN::AGASSISWed Nov 18 1992 11:0718
    For your information, since we've replaced the mother board, the
    CPU and two SCSI adapters, the system doesn't hang anymore (for a
    week).

    The SCSI adapters were and are at the right revision (D07).

    Older SCSI adapters might cause similar hangs as well as an defective
    RZ57...If the latest is faulty, you can force a crash only
    if you have installed crashdump.o patch.

    In our case, even with this patch installed, we couldn't force a crash.
    One of the mentionned part was probably defective.

    This info might help others...

    Best regards !
