586.0. "missing brochure in Auto Deals mailing" by CSC32::S_MAUFE (okay, I'll take an IBM compatible) Sun Jul 19 1992 15:17

did anybody else get a DCU Auto Deals envelope with a letter that
referred to the enclosed brochure for full details? Its a shame the
    brochure wasn't included!

I ask this as if this happened to a lot of people, perhaps DCU can get
a refund from the mailing house that messed up!

DCU sent a bunch of people US Mail saying "take out an auto loan" with
us. But they forgot to enclose the brochure with all the details.

So I figured I'd prompt DCU to get a refund if this happened to
    everybody.

586.4I wondered if I was the only one with no brouchureEDWIN::WAYLAY::GORDONPurple SquirrelsSun Jul 19 1992 20:585
No brouchure in mine. Of course, my car is paid off (3.61% for 24
months) and I'm not in need of another one so I don't really miss it
either.

The mailing was targeted (don't know how) to certain members and not a
general mailing. If you did not receive the brochure in the envelop, I
think you should call the DCU info center and request info (or go to a
branch). I would also let them know that the brochure was missing. I
believe the postmark was different this time. For some reason, Florida
rings a bell. Maybe they tried a new place and there are problems.
586.6FIGS::BANKSThis wasMon Jul 20 1992 14:2921
I also got the mailing.

I was very pleased that DCU is taking a more aggressive approach to making
car loans. A coupla years ago, I'd have been delighted for DCU to come ask
me to refinance my existing car with them. I was interested enough to do
that if they'd sent me the paperwork, but not quite interested enough to
take the initiative myself. That, and at the time I'd heard that DCU was
stingy.

So, this would have been an effective mailing for me, had two criteria been
met:

1. If they'd included the brochure and application with the mailing (they
didn't, but they did include a business reply envelope for me to return
nothing to them in).
2. If I still owed money on my car, which I don't.

Good idea. Sloppy implementation.

FWIW: My ex-SO also got a mailing, and it also contained no brochure or
mini-application.

It is my understanding that DCU does NOT do this mailing themselves. I
am awaiting a call from HQ to see if they are aware of the problems
with this mailing. A re-mailing or adjustment in payment would seem to
    be in order.

    Thanks for letting us know!

Hmmm. I got a letter, a brochure/mini-applications, and a reply postage paid
envelope. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones :-)

    FYI:

It looks like it wasn't just one or two, I didn't get the insert
    either...

...and I have been thinking about re-financing my car for a while.

BTW: The timing turns out to have been poor for me, as my car was
rear-ended Friday morning on my way to work. I then returned home to
    find this letter...

    	... God is an iron.

586.10Some feedbackGUFFAW::GRANSEWICZMon Jul 20 1992 16:4115

I have spoken with Mary Madden and this is the story. This is a
staggered mailing (July 8, 15, 22) to approximately 50,000 members.
She said a few people had called indicating they didn't get a brochure
in the envelop. She shecked the returns and all of them were OK. She
will be calling the mailing house today since there is one more mailing
to go. BTW, they did use a mailing house in Florida.

Again, if you need more (or any) info on this offering, please call the
DCU info center and they will mail it right out. Or visit a branch and
    pick it up.

To the people who got incomplete mailings, did you receive them last
week or the week before? Where do you live?

I received mine on Saturday (7/18) in Nashua. My ex-SO received his either
Friday (7/17) or Saturday (7/18) in Merrimack. Neither had the brochure or
application.

I received mine Friday with everything in it, in Harvard, MA. Too bad. It
went into the basket. If I'd have known, I would have brought it into the DCU
office for "recycling".

Mine's postmarked 15-Jul-92 and contained the letter and a reply
envelope. I'm in Colorado Springs, CO.

Quite timely, actually, as I'm going to purchase a vehicle. 8^)
    Thanks, DCU!

586.17Problem resolved, thanksGUFFAW::GRANSEWICZTue Jul 21 1992 03:3511

OK, here is the story. The mailing house made a major mistake on the
second round of mailing (about 15,000 letters). They did not include
all the materials for the entire mailing. DCU has been in contact with
them and they will be re-mailing the entire second round with all the
materials, as well as a letter of explanation. Of course, this will
all be done at the mailing house's expense.

Thanks for all the timely feedback that led to a very quick awareness
    and resolution to this problem!

If it was targeted then why did I get one? I don't have any outstanding
car loans, nor do I want one. So what was the discriminant?

    RE: .19

I don't know and I don't think it really matters. DCU is trying to
expand auto loans whether they are refinances or new car loans. Even a
'targeted' mailing is going to hit some dis-interested people.
586.21SSBN1::YANKESWed Jul 22 1992 14:1111
	Re: .last few

I'd rather have DCU do a targetted mailing and both hit some people
who aren't interested in the program and miss some people that might be
interested in it rather than do a mass-mailing.

What would be interesting to follow is the rate-of-return from this
mailing as opposed to the mass-mailings approach.

This is just my not-so-humble opinion, but, aside from the missing brochure
and application in the mailing (which we now see wasn't necessarily DCU's
fault), this is the first sort of non-statement correspondence I've ever
gotten than made 100% sense to me. It also has my 100% approval in intent,
if that's worth anything (it's not).

Implementation aside, I see this as a very positive sign for DCU.

I just heard the re-mailing will be going out next Monday. Response
by the membership has been very positive. I agree, DCU has done a good
    job with this offering.
