991.0. "Interest posted 1/4'erly not monthly." by CSCMA::BALICH () Wed May 08 1996 13:35

    Q: I'm fairly new to DCU and have found out that interest to
    checking and savings is posted quartlerly in DCU than from the
    traditonal monthly posting at most banks.

    WHY is this ?

    I don't know why, but it appears to be a common credit union industry
    practice.

Though the interest is posted quarterly, interest accrues
daily and is compounded; i.e. you earn interest on the interest.

I always thought that quarterly posting was traditional. It's been over
35 years since I had any savings at a bank, but I seem to recall that
they used to post once per quarter.

I think that DCU used to post interest monthly years ago.
Does anyone remember back this far?

It's been quarterly as long as I can remember, and I've been a member since
DCU started.
