536.0. "Increased BoD participation" by SSDEVO::EGGERS (Anybody can fly with an engine.) Fri Apr 24 1992 19:42

I have sent VAXmail to Gail Mann, Paul Milbury, and Tom McEachim
inviting them to participate in this notes conference. Since
I've just sent the mail out, I don't have any answers yet.

It may be a problem for Paul Millbury, since his secretary says he uses
only ALL-IN-1. Is there any way to use VAXnotes from ALL-IN-1, and
would somebody be willing to be a coach?

I now have a volunteer in Paul Milbury's building to help if it turns
    out any help is needed.

re:-1 Wouldn't it be better if the other board members were approached
by Paul Kinzelman or Phil or someone else on the board, rather than
having a barrage of people contact them off line..just a thought..

I get the feeling that there is so much excitement (and rightfully so)
about the results, that we expect things to start happening
immediately. I think we should just give everyone time to adjust.

    Just my opinion.

Well, I sent the invitation to join the conference as a co-moderator
of the conference. I suppose a barrage isn't appropriate, but
waiting to be introduced doesn't seem necessary either.

Right, a barrage isn't appropriate. Tom has made the invitation,
and that ought to be adequate.

I perceive that the complaint most of us had with respect to
participation by Directors in this conference wasn't so much
that any one particular Director or another didn't participate,
	but rather that *none* participated.

I'd certainly welcome any and all Directors to participate
here, but won't hold it against anyone if they don't, as long
I have the perception that a clear line of communication
does exist between the member-owners and the BoD. As long as at
least one Director communicates here, then I'm happy, and we have
good reason to believe that at least one will. :)

I'd note that the 3 highest vote-getters in this election wrote a
total of three notes here, so it would seem that visibility in
the conference is (rightly, in my opinion) not high on the list of
qualifications that members used in selecting the new board. I don't
consider that a problem, because I believe there are now some Directors
who will serve to ensure that the concerns expressed here are brought
to the rest of the Board, and more importantly, that the board's
response will be communicated back to us. That's more important than
having each Director participate (although that would be nice, too).

Noting from All-In-1 is generally pretty easy. In fact, I am on an
all-in-1 system right now. Notes is available as a selection from a
"business applications" menu. (Or elsehwere...sometimes its system
    specific)

Also, we have a "conf" option which puts you into the latest
    EASYNOTES conferences listing.

It should be available, but I have found that the average All-In-1 user
I have run into has never tried notes.

Why just the board? Is there any way that Chuck C. can get in this
forum? I'd love to have easy access to him, "hear" his ideas, etc.

Re: Chuck Cockburn and NOTES

Non-DEC employees (with the exception of contractors working as DEC employees)
do not have access to the Easynet. While it may be argued that this is perhaps
a special case worth bending the rules for, I hate to think about the cans of
worms it would open in other areas totally unrelated to this.

No reason why you couldn't work things with Chuck via regular
mail and report results in this file. We should all try to do this.
