2067.0. "\d command in WPS-PLUS file not printing date" by OASS::ANDRES_B () Tue Mar 18 1997 11:45

If this has not already been reported I will be surprised I just
    could not find this.

This site is using ALL-IN-1 as their server. They have been
used to using WPS-PLUS as the editor. The users are moving to
TeamLinks. The users a printing their WPS-PLUS documents from
TeamLinks and the \d command in a control block is not printing
    the date.

    The file in WPS-PLUS

    -----------Start Control------
    bottom

    \d
    ------------End Control-------

When printing from TeamLinks the date is not printing if a control
block is used for the \p to print the page number this works.

I tested at the CSC and was able to reproduce the issue. Has this
    been reported, should it work?

    Thanks,

    Beth

2067.1No, I don't think so.MANANA::HOVEYTue Mar 18 1997 16:5521
Unfortunately, there isn't a get/no_get list of features for the wps-plus
viewer. There are so many nooks and cranies to wps-plus the approach was
to give the viewer a pile of sample documents and essentially trust the
vendor to do a good job rather than get bogged down trying to price out
each "feature" in a contract. I think the decision was the right one; but
it does make it difficult to answer the question should "this" be working.

In this case I would say the answer is no (unless it used to work and is
now broken). The TeamLinks wps-plus viewer is a "viewer" not a formatter.
The wps-plus application on VMS is a formatter. The difference is that
one supports computed content and the other does not.

In the same way the wpl viewer can view an index or table of contents; but
cannot generate one. Where as WPS-PLUS on VMS will generate/update the
index/toc.

So why is the page number feature there? I guess it was an easy feature
to hook up. Something their viewer already knew how to do for the other
formats it supports; where as computing the date on the fly was not.
I wish I had a better answer for you.

TeamLinks V2.7 has a Print to Server option which causes the formatting to
be performed by the ALL-IN-1 Server instead of the TeamLinks client.
Therefore for WPS-PLUS documents the WPS-PLUS Formatter will be used and
the /d option will be processed.
