2049.0. "handling 2 byte character on v2.7" by DEKVC::JINSUNPARK () Thu Mar 13 1997 03:19

Hello, all

Customer is using teamlink both v2.5 and v2.7-001(patched) on win95
and they found the difference between v2.5 and v2.7
when using local character(hangul like japan char. --->2byte).

  Procedure :

1. Teamlink Information Manager menu
2. select Mail
3. select Create Message...

        To:
Subject: hangul typing : No problem

	( body )

	  hangul typing : problem

problem : When typing hangul character, it doesn't displyed directly
without meeting spacebar or next hangul character.
Namely, only when typing second hangul character or pressing
spacebar, first typed hangul character is displyed.
Customer want to be displayed on terminal whenever typing hangul
          character like in subject field.
I think there is a difference in handling hangul character between
subject field and body. when using hangul character, there is no
problem on subject field and V2.5 no problem.

I hope you will be understand with this.

    best regards

2049.1Bug or limitation?XANADU::cascobay.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanThu Mar 13 1997 22:379
It could be because TL 2.7 uses a Rich Text Editor control, from a
third party company, for the cover memo part of the Create Message
window. In TL 2.5 it used a regular Windows edit control for
both the cover memo and the subject line.

Perhaps this Rich Text control cannot handle this character set?

    Hello, Bob

    Thanks for your answer.

Create message menu have two editor options - text, rich text.
You mean that just text editor use rich text editor control. right?
How about IPMT for this problem?

Hello J.S.,

The 2.7 Create Message window uses the third-party Rich Text
Editor control for both regular text and RTF cover memos. So
perhaps you should IPMT it. I have no idea if we can fix this.
More than likely not, because we've run into a lot of limits
with this control and the vendor doesn't correct them.
