2002.0. "InVircible steps on TeamLinks word integration" by GIDDAY::BACOT () Wed Feb 19 1997 23:13

    TeamLinks V2.5 eco4

After installing the InVircible virus detector the TeamLinks Word
integration seems to be broken. Doing a Save As from Word no longer
gives access to the file cabinet.

Does anyone know what might have been stepped on?

Doing a reinstall of the TeamLinks integration didn't help.

    Thanks,

    angela

What version of Word?

Our Word/Excel integration expert, Al Poon, is out for a little more
than a week. He'll return March 3rd. I don't know if he will monitor
this conference while he's away.

I've not heard of this virus detector. Is it specifically looking
to fix virusus found in Word files? It may have installed some macros
into the Normal.dot global template. Or it might have added a WLL
file or it's own DOT file in the \startup directory.

Maybe you can try deleting the Normal.dot and reinstalling the
TL integration.

The customer could contact the vendor that sells this product to
tell them what happened and ask for a fix or workaround. I hope
they don't do the same things MS did with ScanProt.

2002.2any ideas?GIDDAY::BACOTMon Mar 03 1997 03:0714

We've removed Normal.dot and TLWW6.dot and reinstalled TeamLinks
but they are still having the problem.

I've suggested talking to the vendor of InVircible and they agreed
to do that but apparently they haven't been able to resolve the
    problem.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

I've asked Al Poon to have a look at this.

2002.4Need more knowlegde from the virus detector.TAMARA::tubgun.zko.dec.com::manana::poonThu Mar 13 1997 19:1517
Hi Angela,

Without see how the virus detector works, I cannot find out how it
impacts the Word integration. If the virus detector adds macros into
Normal.dot, following Bob's suggestion of deleting Normal.dot should
fix the problem.

However, if the virus detector makes changes to your Window95 registration
database, neither deleting Normal.dot nor reinstalling Word will fix the
problem. Without see the virus detection product, it is hard for me
to speculate.

As the make of that detector how they integration their function into
Word.

    more info...

They are running Windows For Workgroups, installed on a network drive
similarly TeamLinks and Word V6 are installed on a network drive.

The other portions of the integration are working, ie., they can
send mail from Word. Only the Save As in Word, which won't let them
save back to the file cabinet, appears to be broken.

    The Excel integration is working.

The problem is *not* happening to all users, only 4 or 5 are having
    the problem.

They have tried replacing the tlww6.dot and tlww6int.dot, normal.dot,
office.ini and regedit from systems that are not having the problem
but this has not resolved the problem.

    any suggestions?

    thanks,

2002.6Suggestion for me to call the customer to do more trouble shooting.TAMARA::tubgun.zko.dec.com::manana::poonMon Mar 17 1997 11:3911
Hi Angela,

At this point, I think the fastest way to find out what is happening
on the customer's system is for me to give them a call. Can you send
me the phone number of the customer, what is the name of the company,
and the name of the person who is reporting the problem.

You can mail me the information at xanadu::poon.
