1978.0. "No connect via router diff area" by TAV02::CHAIM (Semper ubi Sub ubi .....) Thu Feb 06 1997 07:44

TeamLinks V2.5 using TCP/IP

A customer has several ALL-IN-1 systems in his network. He recently installed
ALL-IN-1 on another system but he is unable to connect to this system.

He receives the standard file server is not running or network connection
refused error.

He can ping in both directions.

The remote system appears in his HOSTS file

However, the PC is in area 128.1.1.xxx while the server is in 128.10.1.xxx with
several routers along the way.

Thanks,

Cb.

I know that NOTES is informal and etc., but nevertheless it is still one of the
best means for getting assistance.

SO, I would really appreciate it if someone could assist me with this problem.

In the meantime I told the customer to see if he can connect from a locally
connected PC and also to install the V2.5 TLC.

Thanks,

Cb.

    Hello,

Could you get a cfcdebug.log file from this user? To see what
the connect error in the log states.

1978.4More checking neededA1WS2::MANANA::PalmerTue Feb 11 1997 12:398
Hello Chaim,

The error you are receiving is connection refused. You should check the
server to verify it has not exceed connections and that it does know about
the PC attempting to connect. Does the user have a valid account.

Server has definitely NOt exceeded connections since as of yet noone has
connected from PC to server.

How can I verify that the server does indeed know about the PC attempting to
connect?

User is ALLIN1/MANAGER

Hello Chaim

**Server has definitely NOt exceeded connections since as of yet noone has
**connected from PC to server.

If the server has a connection limit of zero then you have exceeded the limit.

Does the user have a vaid All-IN-1 account on the server, and VMS account?

Can the PC connect to other ALL-IN-1 servers?

Is there anything that has to be done on the server system to allow
the ALL-IN-1 user to access the system from a remote client?

Bob

How can I check this, though I doubt this is the case since I assume that the
default value is not zero, and noone I'm sure would set it to zero.

Yes, ALLIN1/MANAGER

Yes, no problem, BUT all these other servers are within the same area and
without any routers in between.

1978.9Is the server running at a differnt port?MANANA::FLANAGANThu Mar 06 1997 18:4818
    Hi,

Connection refused means you are able to access the machine but there
is either no server running at the port you tried or the server refused
    to accept the connection.

Could the server be running at a different port?

Can other people within that segment access the server?

Are you positive you have the right tcp/ip address for the machine? Could the
         name server have it wrong?

Perhaps it's possible to turn on logging on the destination machine
and get a trace of the connection attempts?

     / Peter
