1935.1It could be ODMA if you're using TL 2.7XANADU::flymht.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanMon Jan 20 1997 19:3322

1935.3They are 32-bit apps, so they use ODMA32.DLL.XANADU::flymht.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanThu Jan 23 1997 19:4511
1935.4AIK was ok when you used TL Mail...HYDRA::catherine.crl.dec.com::ALDENKen AldenMon Feb 10 1997 14:0413
For me, I need to accomplish the same goal, but for a different reason.
At some point, my AIK and TL environment went bezerk on my home PC and ever
since, I haven't been able to do much with TL components, other than
VTX and conferencing. Since Exchange is moving our way, it really didn't
bother me when mail stopped working but when I installed Office 97, I found
I couldn't OPEN a file because the AIK stuff was getting an error and
preventing even the DOS side of things from working.

So, is this ODMA32.dll file supplied from Teamlinks 2.7? or from the office
installation, and with it nuked, is anything else going to have problems?

Thanks,
-Ken
1935.5Can't yet disable ODMA for one app. It's all or nothing.XANADU::cascobay.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanTue Feb 11 1997 12:5314
Ken,

The ODMA32.DLL is installed optionally by TeamLinks 2.7. It's installed
by Document Management Systems. It isn't installed by MS Office 97. If
you remove or rename ODMA32.DLL from your PC, then MS Office 97 will
simply go straight to it's DOS dialog boxes -- which is it's normal way
of operating anyway. Any other ODMA-based application integration would
be disabled, but most likely you don't have any others.

1935.6TL integrationGLRMAI::tay1dhcp96-239.tay1.dec.com::glr02::horzempaWed Feb 12 1997 15:3214
Bob,

Thanks that worked. I tried using the integration but ran into a problem when
I was about to give a presentation, not attached to the network but I had the
Teamlinks option "work on line" checked. When I started Powerpoint it would
look at TL, try to attach and eventually time out. The time out seemed like
an eternity as I stood before the audience.

I can see the advantage if one files PPT, XLS & DOC files in file cabinets
along with memos.

Thanks,

Bill
1935.7I want to fix this.XANADU::cascobay.zko.dec.com::TAMARA::STJEANBob St.JeanWed Feb 12 1997 18:3226
Bill,

I too have been bit by that long time out problem when my laptop is
disconnected from the network and I've forgotten to put TL into
offline mode! After about a 2 minute wait it finally times out.
Then you have to be sure to cancel out of the Login dialog, or you'll
get another long wait!

It's something I wish the network layers would detect before making
the connection, or at least time out faster. I've talked to Peter
Flanagan about it and he doesn't think TL can make the Winsocks call
timeout any faster. So we might have to solve it another way. I've
proposed that TL have a profile setting for notebook computers which
would allow TL to ask if you want to work offline or online whenever
any integrated application is started. Or perhaps only ask when
the first app is started.

If you remember to put TL in offline mode, then our ODMA implmentation
will not process any requests for documents on a server. The app
then works much faster. The startup of WordPerfect is much better
because TL skips processing the FC documents in their Most Recently
Used List. Same for MS Word 97, except they delay this MRU List
processing until the first time you use the File menu.
