676.0. "Dinghy Needed Now!" by VLNVAX::FRENIERE () Thu Oct 22 1987 13:59

While out over Ohio ledge in Narragansett ledge some weeks
ago, in 25 knot winds, I turned around and said "Where is
the dingy !?!?!?!" My wife responded with " ".

The real problem is that it was a borrowed dingy. I borrowed
it from the yard where I keep my boat. The dingy goes with
a boat they have had for sale for some time. The owner
said no cash needed if I could replace the dingy.

    CAN YOU HELP ME OUT?

I'm looking for a 7' or 8' dingy, wood or FG, in reasonably good
condition, or readily brought up to a good condition?

Did I say Narraganset ledge? yep, meant the Bay of course.

    Thanks for ANY leads
    Don

The following is a MAIL dialogue I had with Steve Lloyd about his dignhy
and motor. I did not buy it for a number of reason, but you should
    look into it.

Good luck. Sounds like a lousey predicament.

It's fiberglass, has tweo seats, I'd say the condition is fair.
The guy I bought it from painted it and re fiberglassed last year.

The moter is a shakespear 'dial volume' prop for trolling.

It's very wide and is pretty neat lookin.

I'd sy more, but I'm in a class that starts now.

(thats why I cant type!)

Hello there. I (opps, i have a sticky space bar on my keyboard)

I am going to the mountains tonight for the weekend. We can get
together Monday, Wednsday, or Friday next week. Unfortunatly,
I took it to Worcester to keep at my folks house. So that means
we'll have a 15 min trip from HL.

Let me know if this suits you.

Thanks
Steve

Are you still interested in the dinghy?

676.2check with CH?RDF::RDFRick FricchioneFri Oct 23 1987 02:249
Did you check with Castle Hill CG? I seem to recall listening
to the late show on the VHF a while back (around then) and hearing
about someone sighting a loose dingy.

    Rick

    * Or maybe it was you reporting it to CH CG...:-)

It's definitely worth checking CG and boatyards, marinas, and
harbormasters in the area. A few years ago, my wife and I sailed
out of Winter Harbor on Frenchman's bay (ME) headed down east. We
were in a chartered Sabre 28 towing a scuzzy old FG dinghy. Late
in the afternoon, well past Petit Manan, we realized we had lost
the dinghy, but had no idea when; we had been sailing 5-6 hours
at that point. We anchored that night and returned to Winter Harbor
next day. We asked at the boatyard (Winter Harbor Marine) we had
been patronizing if anyone had found a dinghy - and, sure enough,
a local fisherman had brought one in. It was ours, found within
    a mile of Winter Harbor. I've always been VERY glad we asked around;
if we had assumed it was lost for good, we would have trashed several
more days of our charter, and been out of pocket for a new dinghy.
    So it's worth a try...

If you tow your dinghy, it is advisable to have your name, address, and
telephone number painted somewhere on the dinghy. Years ago we lost a
dinghy we were towing in a Gulf of Maine gale. A few days later a Maine
fisherman called to tell us he had recovered our dinghy some 20 miles
offshore and drifting toward Nova Scotia.

Thanks everyone. I lost the dingy Sept 17th. Visited all the yards
& clubs from Warren to Bristol, including police & Harbor Masters.
The day I lost it I called Castle Hill and have checked back with
them. I had prepared name & address. etc, had placed in a plastic
folder for attachment to the dingy. Saw the weather deteriorating
and left the dock withthe paper in my pocket. From time to time
as I pass thru the area I put out a brief call n Channel 16 in
hopes someone will respond. It was of fiberglass without flotation
so it possibly sank. Some cohogger has probably lost his rake on
it if that is the case. When I discovered the loss, I was left with
the painter and a bronze ring, so some fastening hasd let loose.
