544.0. "Brass: Whence and Whither" by PENNSY::GREEN () Mon May 04 1987 17:57

Brass parts are on the endangered species list. Last summer it
took calls to five suppliers in the Salem/Marblehead area to uncover
a quarter inch turnbuckle. It ain't around.

Does anyone out there in Notes land have a known purveyor of parts
(real simple parts like clevis pins and cleats) made of this exotic
    metal??

Mail order is ok, or a local drop in shop.

    Many thanks,

    Wouldnt you prefer bronze ?

I think Jamestown Distributors carries some sizes of bronze turnbuckles
(no chrome plating) and other marine fasteners.

Check the advertisements in Wooden Boat magazine. There are several
suppliers of bronze parts. Most bronze parts these days are either
custom made or else produced in quite low volume. In either case they
aren't found at the mass merchandisers.

    BRASS?

I must have been thinking of the PBS series just concluded (?).
Bronze will work out much better, thanks.

(This'll be the last time I mention this place again :-))

Three Lanterns Ships Supply in Gloucester has an inch-thick catalog
of everything nautical, and quite a bit of bronze hardware including
turnbuckles, cleats, chocks, etc. What's not in stock, they can order
in days. And they charge 40% off the catalog price for most items.
