492.18MarGinGATORS::VICKERSUsually just below the surfaceSun Mar 01 1987 01:0819
MarGin is a 1978 Hobie 16 with Tequlia Sunrise sails. It lives
on a beach in the southwest part of Lake Griffin near Leesburg,
Florida where I live and sometimes work.

My house is a few hundred yards up the shore from where I keep my boats
which is the reason that I live here in Florida. I have a racing
single scull (Kascpher 1971) and a 16 foot canoe so I am all set no
    matter what the wind.

I normally single hand the Hobie so I don't have a radio call sign
given that both hands and feet are full when I'm out on the trap
screaming across the gators out on the lake. Of course, most VHF
sets aren't designed to take the kind of fun only available on a
    cat.

Once you sail on a cat you don't want to back to a monohull,

     "LEEWAY" - Endeavour 37

White hull + deck, maroon strip, red bottom. Plain
white sails with brown boot/dodger/uv strip on roller furl.
Usually found somewhere around Portsmouth N.H. Lived aboard
for 17 out of the last 24 months at Badger's Island Kittery
Me with a PRO 350 tucked in the V-birth. Used mostly for
day sails and a few weekend jaunts. Would be found on the
water more at night rather than days. Have been known to
throw a few lobster parties on Smuttynose. A blue Achillies
is usually found trailing behind or somewhere nearby but
we're in the process of building a 12' mahogany/west system
sailing dinghy soon to be named the "LEEWARD".

Crew consists mainly of friends who show up and have
been known to single hand on a number of occasions.

as often as time permits. Can also be found on Wednesday evenings

A well kept secret, but I represented Digital Equipment in Perth
last August when I refitted the Micro Vaxes for the Sail America
Syndicate on the Betsy and in their offices. I also had the good
fortune while there to handle a service call on one of the systems
on the Kook's 12. It was great fun.

    "STEEL STRINGS"

Cape Dory Typhoon with sail logo of TY (just like all the rest),
an older (1973) weekender model that has yet to carry me out for
a weekend. Usually daysailing outside of Salem Sound or inside
on light air days. Mooring is at Salem Willows Y.C. on the Danvers
River. Usually sailing with a friend or two and (when lucky) my
nine year old daughter who I fashion as my sailing buddy.

True story about the name. I played guitar with a couple of friends
at one time and noticed their playing was louder and bluesier with
steel strings than I could produce with my Brasilian classical.
So off I went to the music store to get steel strings.

"Won't work on that guitar. It'll pull the bridge off. What you need is a
new guitar like this Yamaha over her." Looking through the $150-300
models and got thinking the "Want Advertiser" might have a second
hand one for a lot less.

So I got that week's copy, looked through the guitar section and then
thought, "Wonder if there are any good deals on ......."

The name was a natural outcome.

	CAVATINA - Maxi 84 (28'), sail # 410.

Crew: Marit and Knut. Late July/first August a new crew member will
	      hopefully join in.

Maxi (swedish) is a very common boatmodel in Northern Europe. It's
our fist boat and we have had it for one year now.

We mostly sail in the inner parts of Oslofjorden. Weekends we try
to reach as far out of the fjord as possible.
The area is very good for sailing, especially for newcombers
the fjord is a nice sailground.
Last summerholiday we sailed down the south coast of Norway to Arendal.
This year our holiday will be shorter, we'll probably have a short
trip down the coast to Sweden.
Sailors from Oslo mostly go either down the south coast of Norway
or down the east coast of Sweden, may be combined with a trip over
	to Denmark, in their holidays.

If someone should be around feel free to contact me. My VHF number
	is LN4738.

	- Happy sailing -

	Knut.

For anyone wondering about the name. Ehecatl is the second sign
of the Aztec calendar, meaning wind. Those who were born under this
sign were prophesied to be fickle, inconsistent, lazy, enemies of
toil, addicted to merrymaking, rovers with no roots nor rest.
