5.20south England racing crewCOMICS::BRADSHAWJonathan Bradshaw -- TSC (uk) Mon Feb 02 1987 11:1713
Hello the south of England !

I have been sailing for the past 4 or 5 years, most of the time around
the cans (the cans as organised by the Dublin Bay Sailing Club) in 30
to 40ft cruisers, with a number of offshore races, the last one was the
Round Ireland. I'm based in Basingstoke, so if there is any one on
the south coast looking or knows of anyone looking for crew, drop me a
line

Thanks

5.21Offshore Race Crew ListRDGE43::BARKERTue Aug 18 1987 12:5520

    Hello

I have raced for several years in races organised by J.O.G.
These are mainly short offshore races ( about 24 hours ) for
I.O.R. and Channel Handicap yachts up to about 40' LOA,usually
to France or the Channel Isles, starting on Friday evenings.

The secretary of J.O.G. maintains a Crew list for people wanting
a sail and he circulates this to the Skippers with the race
    	details.

If you are interested, His name is Brian Goulder and he can
be contacted on Cowes (0983) 291572.

        Good Luck

I am interested in crewing, regularly or intermittently, for a
safety conscious skipper. I will consider both day sailing and week-end
coastal cruising. I would be more than happy to share in maintenance
tasks or expense in return for above.

My experience, thus far, is 2 sailing course taken at Watergate
Sailing Center, Kemah Texas, and at the Boston Harbor Sailing Club. I
have crewed a number of times on Pearson's and Solings.

Looking forward to hearing from interested parties.

My name is Jeff Johnsen. I have been sailing my Hobie 16 for 3 years
now and love every minute of it. In the next year or so I plan to
buy a cruiser (25'-30'). I would love to gain some experience on
bigger boats. I'm mainly looking for day trips, or weekend trips.
But I could be available for up to a week.

    I'm a strong 6' 3'' 210lbs. and my basic seamanship is good.

Please leave a reply if interested.

5.9Looking for experienceMGOBLU::KENNEDYHow do you do what you do!?Wed Apr 20 1988 23:2840
My name is Steve Kennedy and I'd be available to crew for anyone willing
to help a new sailor (whose caught the sailing bug big-time) learn some
    of the ropes.

I am very new to sailing larger boats (I've been sailing small boats,
mostly sunnies and the like, since I was very young) and I am _very_
interested in gaining more experience this season on larger boats. As
green as I am, my current plans are to try to gain as much experience as
possible the next 1-2 seasons with larger boats (also finding out what I
like and dislike), with a goal of buying a boat in 2-3 years.

I think I will primarily be interested in cruising, but having never
raced and I would like to give that a shot if someone is willing to take
on inexperienced (but willing and eager) racing crew.

Other than a handful of day trips as a deck lizard, my experience on
larger boats thus far has been limited to

    	1) a 3-day bareboating course (taught primarily on a 33' Pearson),
    	   after which I

    	2) chartered a 26' Pearson out of Bar Harbor for two days (I
sailed from Bar Harbor around to the south side of the island
one day and back the next - too beautiful for words!)

My availability will mainly depend on the time and current situation,
but in general I'll consider and will probably be available almost
anytime on a regular basis or at the spur-of-the-moment for evenings,
days, weekends, and maybe even weeks (I could be available for up to 3-4
weeks toward the latter part of the summer or early fall - lots of
vacation saved up). I live in Hudson, MA and traveling a few hours is
    not at all a problem.

If you are interested please leave a reply or feel free to contact me
directly via mail or phone (dtn 296-5588).

    thanks,

    \steve

I would like to add myself to this list of available crew. My name
is Dennis Ahern. I work at MKO1 and live in Acton, Mass. I've
been sailing since around 1960, mostly in small boats, occasionally
    cruising with friends.

Originally, I learned to sail at Community Boating on the Charles
River in Boston, where I also worked as a volunteer sailing instructor
for blind students from the Perkins School in Watertown.

Later I owned a 12' Firefly sloop which I raced every Saturday and
Sunday at the Sandy Bay Yacht Club in Rockport, Mass. I also went
cruising along the Coast of Maine, living aboard this 12 footer and
sleeping in a hammock that stretched from the transom to the mast.
Except for where my rear end rested on the centerboard trunk, this was
    not all that uncomfortable.

Having a trailerable boat, I was also able to explore along Cape
Cod, the Connecticut shore, and the Chesapeake Bay. As part of
our honeymoon I took my wife and our two cats and sailed out to
an uninhabited island in Maine and camped for a week. Neither my
wife, nor the cats, turned out to be enthusiastic sailors and this
eventually led to my selling the boat.

Since then I have been dependent on the kindness of strangers (and
friends) who have need of an experienced crew. I've been cruising
on sloop-rigged keel boats in the 26-34' range in the following
waters: Buzzards Bay to Cape Ann, Camden to Bar Harbor, Boothbay
to Casco Bay, Fisher's Island Sound, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard

In addition to my seamanship and navigational skills, I play the
concertina and have my own sneakers. I can be reached at DTN 264-1941.

I have a keen interest in becoming a member of a racing crew. I
am not looking for any particular role; any available spot
on the crew would be great. Unfortunately, however, I have
no racing experience and very little sailing experience.
My parents just purchased a C&C 41 so I have just entered the sailing
world. I am very competitive and love to sail so I think racing
    would be a great thrill.

I am somewhat restricted to the Narragansett Bay area but might
occasionally make a road trip if necessary. Because I am a college
student who must raise as much money as possible this summer, I will
be available only on weekends with possibly an exception once and a
    while.

If you need anyone or just want another body on board for ballast,
contact Don at CADM::STEUL or DTN 287-3151 (work) or 617-456-3084
    (home).

Hi ! I'd like to crew with people who are a little competitive
but not so competitive that there's no fun left. I'm looking to
crew with people who sail out of either the Boston, Mass. area or
near Burlington, Vermont on lake Champlain. My preference is Lake
Champlain since I own a house in Stowe, Vermont, but I'm flexible.
I grew up in Marion, Mass. and would be willing to sail near the
Cape. For the past several years, I have crewed on a sport fisherman
33' because I like to fish, but I'm looking for quieter boating
now and love to sail also.

Would love to hear from anyone who wants me as crew member.

Hi! I would like to crew with people sailing out of the Boston
vicinity from points both north and south. My experience in
racing has been in racing the dinghy boats on the Charles river.
As far as my sailing experience goes, I have been sailing for
four years now dinghies, lasers and sailboards. Occasionally I
have crewed with a friend on his 32 footer off Salem.
I am interested if you are interested. So let me know.

I am interested in crewing occasionally (every 2-3 weeks) on boats
sailing out of Marblehead or, potentially, Buzzards Bay.

I have raced off and on for 20 years in boats ranging from dinghies
to IOR 3/4 Tonners. Most recently, I sailed during parts of two
seasons on J-24's out of Annapolis.

I am most interested in sailing on a J-24 or a similar modern

I'd like to hear about new opportunities for crewing in Wednesday
     nights races out of Marblehead.

I've crewed on a competitive Class D boat in this series for the
last 5 seasons. The skipper is a new father, and may not be
     campaigning the boat this season.

I'm also a semi-regular with a top boat in the weekend Marblehead
     fleet (Vigilante, Class C).

If you race on a regular basis or know of someone who does and
needs an extra hand, please contact me via Mail (MEIS::WALKER).

I am interested in sailing, either racing or cruising. I have been
sailing since I was 10, for the past 13 years. I am originally from
Long Island and began racing on Blue Jays, Fireballs, and my family
had an Ensign we raced every weekend.(22ft) I also have some
experience on larger boats Pearson 30, 10M etc.
I currectly live in Boston and would love the oportunity to race or
cruise on the weekends for someone who is competitive but FUN.
I am not really familiar with all the different areas to sail around

I am looking to crew. I normally crew on a 29' Bristol (for 5
years now), sailed a 14' daysailer in Camden in the late sixties
and early 70's and have crewed on up to a 51 footer in the
Caribean. Today is my last day as a contract writer/editor
at Digital. After today, I can be reached at (617)491-7398
in Harvard Square. I've mostly sailed out of Falmouth Foresides
in ME, up almost to Bar Harbor on long cruises. I've sailed out
of Chatham a few times as well, on another Bristol. I might
even be available for sailing during the week; but in general,
am free at least every other weekend for a day sail on Sunday or
a weekend cruise if I plan ahead.

Love to meet other sailors. My other love is painting.

5.19Where crew and skippers meetSLSTRN::RONDINAMon Feb 12 1990 15:0114
I went to the Boston Sailboat Show last week (Feb 9) and learned of a
sailing club that links skippers and crew. Called the Pelagic Sailing
Club it enrolls people with boats looking for crew with people without
boats looking for opportunities to sail. The club is located in WEst
    Newton, Box 153, ZIP 02165, phone 617 729 1716 and was founded in 1967.
It is a non-profit organization and annual memebership is $50. The
club owner told me that 1/3 of the members were skippers and 2/3 crew.
Boats are located all over Maine, Mass, NH, and RI. Primary focus of
the club is cruising with most boats in the 30-40 foot league.

This club might be the answer for those looking for opportunities to
crew either day sails or longer cruises.

Experiance to date: 3 years sailing Sunfish and Hobies off of Cape May,

to like it lots), jibbing, tacking, docking, well, all the usual stuff!

Just thought I would put this in here in case I am unable to later.
My home phone is at the end.

I'd like to crew on a 30'-and-up boat this summer for daysails, overnight and
extended trips. Home ports between the Merrimack and the Naragansett Bay
area would be ideal in terms of a drive to either after work or on weekends.
I'd be very interested in getting on a racing team.

My experience consists of cruising the Naragansett Bay area,
several week-long trips to the North Fork of Long Island and as far
West as New London, and quite a few trips to Block Island. I've also
completed several Coast Guard Auxiliary courses. I've owned a
Bristol 27 for the last 7 years.

Finding dependable crew is always difficult. If I make a commitment to
crew with you either on a particular weekend or an entire season of
weeknight racing, you can count on me to be there. Helping out with
maintainance work and/or some minor expenses would not be a problem.

If you or someone you know is in need of a reliable, safety-oriented
crewmember, please pass the following information on to them. I can be
reached at home at 508-692-9722, at work by EMAIL or DTN 264-2023.

I will be in the SF Bay area from 9/4 - 9/10.
Would welcome the opportunity to crew - racing or cruising.
I've spent a fair amount of time sailing J-22's this summer, and want
to experience other boats.
