1252.0. "DynaFurl?" by SQPUFF::HASKELL () Thu Jun 15 1989 17:05

Does anyone have any information on Sterns Sailing Systems that
were originaslly in Sturgeon Bay Wi?

I have one of their Dynafurl rigs on the boat and I need a small
    part.

When I wrote to them for information, my letter was returned with
"Forwarding Address Expired" stamped on it by the post office.

When the yard put my boat in the water this spring thay mounted
it backwards and lost the screw that keeps the fulring drum attached
to the lower terminal. Now when I set the jib, it lifts up and I
have to tie the drum down to the deck and untie it before I furl
    the jib.

I can't seem to find the correct size screw and the instructions
    do not list the size.

    Thanks

    Paul

How about going back to the yard at fault and having them deal with
    the problem?

Many boatyards maintain extensive inventories of stainless steel
screws. They stand a better shot of having the missing item in
stock than the local marine store or us civilians.

I did that to no avail. The yard was York Harbor Marine in York,
    Maine. They are real turkeys.

    1.	They installed my DynaFurl backwards

    2.	Lost the screw to the drum

    3.	Lost both of my 6 year old batteries (they did deplace them
    	with new deep cycle batteries)

    4.	Were supposed to store my boat in the front yard so I would
have access to power and water. Instead, put the boat out back in
    	the boon docks.

    5.	When they stepped the mast, they threw my mast supports (a wooden
tripod and a bipod used on deck to store the mast during the
winter) away never to be seen again

    6.	Had a very poor selection of screws to try in the drum (even
today I don't know what size to use.

    7.	After I was in the water I noticed that the shrouds were very
loose. This was after I paid $50 extra to have the rig tuned.
It was also after I told them I would tune the rig

    8.	I paid to have my batteries installed ($20). Ended up putting
them in myself (they would not deduct the $20 from the bill.

Do you all get the picture? I hope so. I also so the launch a 40
sailboat, and then proceed to ram it into another boat tied up to
the dock. The guy manuvering it was really operating the launch/work
    boat a full throttle.

I like York but that place is a real horrow show

    DON"T GO THERE

1252.3"For the want of a bolt/screw"WJO::SCHLEGELFri Jun 16 1989 17:338
    Paul:

I have a fair assortment of coarse and fine thread stainless steel
bolts. If you can try the nearest equivalent you have, I might have
a match. Also, the marine stores have these. I suggest buying several
packages closest to what you think is needed, and returning those you didn't
need. I have allen heads and slotted heads. Good luck!
