HA! Now you're really dreaming.

That aside, I like Marblehead without slips and all that nonsense. The
town has long opposed such development, and I hope that it continues to
do so.

How about a lake in the St.Louis, MO area that is deep enough for
a keel boat. We in the mid-west don't have the luxury of an ocean.
But we don't have the problems of salt water either - corrosion.

I guess the song that I'll have to sing for Christmas is Singing
in the Rain - in hope that the lake fills before spring.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

...a Deerfoot 61, if it comes with a big enough trust fund to support it
*and* me and a friend, 'cause I'd then move aboard, head south next fall,
then east to the Med a year from spring, then....

I love sailing, but I hope Santa knows how to spend his money more wisely
than over-indulging an already lucky sailor. I'll settle for warm 20+ kt
breezes every weekend next summer -- for great windsurfing, spirited sailing
with friends, and for keeping some of those pesky (i.e., inexperienced &
thoughtless) motorboats from feeling so overconfident outside the lee of
their marinas and launching ramps.

    Re .15

    Don,

I had several bad experiences with power boats last summer, mostly
at the Newport harbor entrance and Castle Hill. The worst was in
August but I can't remember the day. Seeing a Banana hull in flight,
150 ft abeam, and bearing dead on must have wrecked my memory as
    well as my pants.

The boat was appropriately named ICBM. My brother caught up to one
of the owners in a bar. It wasn't a friendly conversation. Next
season I'm going to find out how to report them to the Coast Guard
and pursue all incidents like that above to the limit.

Maybe a shoulder lauched missile would make a nice Christmas gift.
    ;)

How aboput one of those guns that shoot the paint capsules? Then
you could decorate the sides of those Banana boats when they pass
    to close.

For me Id just like a nice tancock schooner, about like The Vernon
    Langille.

I thought I was the only one that was annoyed by the boat named
ICBM. A similar incident happen to me in Narrag. Bay at the south
end of Prudence Island. They were headed towards Newport. After
they deliberately 'buzzed' by my boat at an unsafe distance and
speed (deliberately alterating course to do so) I radioed the
Coast Guard. I don't know if they did anything or not.

The incident probably occured in October. I would appreciate
hearing from others if this boat has given then problems.

    	Re .15

I don't have my log handy but if my memory serves me correctly
we sailed from Block Island to Portsmouth R.I. in pea soup fog.
Essentially zero visibility until we past Newport Harbor entrance.
Fortuneately almost all the boats we encountered maintained a safe
    (reduced) speed.
