1428.0. "1990 boatshows" by JUPITR::KTISTAKIS (Mike K.) Fri Jan 19 1990 10:28

     In the February's issue of CW there is a coupon worth $ 2.00 to
    be used at the World trade center boat show in Boston.
    Since I haven't hear anything about discount tickets here at DEC
    I think the $ 2.00 coupon is better than nothing.
    On the same topic,this year I got smarter and didn't go to the
    Worcester boat show.Did anyone out there went?How was it?

    Our Personnel group just advertised discount tickets for both the
    Sailing and Power Boat shows..Try them again. Meanwhile, thanks for the
    tip regarding CW. I didn't notice it.
1428.2News from the Boat showsSLSTRN::RONDINAFri Jan 26 1990 12:1418
    I went to the Worcester Boat Show, but inquired at the ticket office
    about sailboats. They said they only had Hobies and Sunfish, so I did
    not go in.

    I did go to the RI Boat Show. It was about 70% power and 30%sail. It
    was OK for a dreary winter's evening. I saw a very nice Irwin 38',
    Beneteau, Cape Dory, Pearsons and various J Boats.
    I learned of another sailing club, NorthStar, out of Greenwhich Bay.

    All in all not a bad show with a fairly decent sailboat display.

    Next one up is the New England Sailboat Show, Feb 8-11. I got discount
    tickets ($4 rather than $7) from my Personnel Group.

    I understand that the Boston Boat Show at the Bayside is supposed to be
    good also.

1428.3THOUGHTS ON BOSTON SHOWSBEAMUP::DARROWMARINR::DARROW Fred @PKO3-2/5B 223-3935Mon Jan 29 1990 13:2713
    According to the folks at Okam Bay Yatch Systems of Marblehead, the
    combined show at the Bayside Expo is better for sail that the Sailboat
    show next week at the Wrold Trade Center. In fact the owner of Okam Bay
    says they will only be at the Pwoer Boat show this week and the show
    at the Bayside. Last years Sail Boat show was so thin that they had a
    good piece of the hall closed off and were displaying cars just to
    fill space.

    Cabin fever being the worst this year, the captain and I were at the
    the pwr Boat show on its first day from about 6:00 to 9:00pm. Of course
    all we looked at were the support gear like electronics and dinghies etc..
    Well maybe just one or two of the boats.

    Could someone please give me some more info on the New England Boat
    Show and the Boston Boat Show (i.e. times, prices of tickets, price for
    parking, where to buy tickets, also the Dates for the Boston Boat Show)

    I would like to take my husband to one or both for his Birthday.

    Thanks,

    Boy,What a disappointment the World Trade Center Sailboat show it was.
    Or maybe it is me,maybe I outgrew them,but again, how come I anticipate
    them starting on Christmas t? Anyway,I didn't go to Centrum this
    year and I won't go to the Trade Center next year(even the little
    Carnival atmosphere was missing this time and I am talking Saturday
    2 P.M.) A couple of years ago I happen to be in Montreal at sailboat
    show time and I enjoyed it much more than the ones here in Mass.
    Exception may be the Bayside Expo which I remembered fondly the only
    time I went there and which was the first time I ever went to such
    a show.They sold me. Didn't they? So next year it is Bayside and if
    it doesn't do it I have to find a new mid-winter fix.
    Any Suggestions????
1428.6How about a study group?ECAD2::FINNERTYReach out and luff someoneMon Feb 12 1990 14:0218

    re:  Any Suggestions?

         I recently picked up a copy of the Marchaj book that some of
         the more experienced noters have made reference to (from the
         library). It appears to be a comprehensive work for anyone
         who would like to make a serious study of aero- and hydro-
         dynamics of sailing.

         If there is interest from other noters, we could tackle 100
         pages per week and discuss/clarify it in a dedicated note.

1428.7I agree!CSMADM::SCHLEGELMon Feb 12 1990 14:2111
    Re: .0
    I agree that the show was a bummer. I have been going to them for a
    long
    time and this one wins a prize for how poor they can be. One thing I
    noticed was that it was advertised as sailboats and trawlers. I asked
    where
    the trawlers were and they said they could not get them in. Well, why
    bother discussing it? As far as I am concerned, I will have to see
    some radical change before going again. Time would be better spent
    staying home and working on what you have.

1428.8Too many shows in BostonAIADM::SPENCERJohn SpencerTue Feb 13 1990 12:2717
RE: .5,

I went in on Sunday evening about 7pm to pick up my new Kevlar skiff (the
Stonington Pulling Boat with double sliding rigs, if you saw it there) and
the atmosphere would have made a morgue feel like a party. Bad show from
the exhibitors viewpoint, too.

If Bayside is your supposed cure, the "big" show is there Feb 17-25.
Mixed power and sail, plus the usual etc. Three of us noters (plus
spouses/SO's) have opted this year to chance satisfaction at Bayside,
rather than risk the ailing Sailboat Show.

[BURNERS ON] Boston's problem is simply too many boat shows. If there
was just one, it'd be a doozy in comparison with the nearly half-dozen
fair-to-piddling efforts we now have to choose among. [FLAME OFF]

1428.9Toronto Boat ShowPOLAR::LINKLETTERMon Dec 03 1990 15:449
    The Montreal Boat Show was mentioned a few replies up. I'm told the
    Toronto show is much bigger. In fact I would like to go and see it this
    year.

    Does anyone know the dates?

    Thanks -- Bob

    	I don't have the exact dates in front of me, but I seem to remember
    that the show will be around January 10th through 20th (?).

    	When I find out for sure, I post it here.
