266.0. "Boston-guide?" by STKSMA::AHLGREN () Sun Mar 20 1988 11:21

Me and my fiancee, also a DEC employee, is planning a three week
visit to the US this summer.

One of the things we want to do is to visit the computer museum
in Maynard. Since they're so close we would also like to visit the
    DEC HQ.

I wonder if there is somebody out there who would like to guide
    us around.

We are planning to be in the area somewhere between the 18-25 of
    June.

I'd love to help act as a guide but I will be moving from one home to another
and will be very busy about that time.

The major parts of the computer museum which used to exist at the Marlboro
office (near to Maynard) have been incorporated into the Boston Computer Museum
(I understand that the museum got its start at that DEC facility). I don't
know of a computer museum at the Mill or elsewhere in Maynard, but I have heard
one is starting up again of just DEC computers. Does anyone know what its
status is and where it can be viewed?

I believe the BCM lets DEC people in for a discount with their badge. I used
to have a bunch of free pass tickets to the Boston Computer Museum for DEC
employees. If I can locate them I would be happy to make them available to you
(and anyone else who asks).

Bring a long ball of string with you before you try wandering around in the
Mill. Leaving a trail of chocolate chips behind you won't work because the
local fauna (programmers and engineers) will eat them up.

HI, Make sure that you find out about the "Discover Amerika"special.
i understand that you can get discounts on travels within the US
as long as you buy the "coupons"in your case in Sweden before you
come over.Discounts like $41dollars where ever you fly ex.Boston
to San Fran only 41 dollars, real good deal, and you can use these
    coupons for a month.
My sister is coming in May from Finland and even if she has only
2 weeks she can use it from Kennedy to Logan at least.
I live next door to Maynard in Sudbury so if I can be of any help
    let me know!
    Bon Voyage,Charlotta Olsen

I live in Marlboro and was once a Boston cab driver. It's been
a while since I was last in Sweden, but I'm always willing to help
out anyone for the welcomes I got over there each time I went.
Let me know if I can be of any help, and we can work out more
details when the time draws nearer.

I've volunteered to give the visitors a grand tour of the Mill and
beautiful downtown Maynard. Including the seldom seen hydroelectric
power station. (Anyone know how I can get up in the clock tower?)

Martin.
