243.0. "DYNAMO ?" by QUART::DAVIES () Mon Aug 07 1989 12:55

    Does anybody know anything about the language "DYNAMO". It is a
    simulation language. I have looked in the SIMULATION conference and
    there is no info there.

    It is referenced heavily in the book
    	"Introduction to Computer Simulation"
    	Authors:	Nancy Roberts, David Anderson, Ralph Deal,
    			Michael Garet & William Shaffer
    	Pub		Addison-Wesley
    	ISBN		0-201-06414-6

    This is a book that is used as part of the OPEN UNIVERSITY course T301,
    "Complexity Management & Change, Applying a systems approach".

    I recall that Dynamo came out of some work at MIT by Jay Forrester
    and others doing modeling and linear programming work. This is
    circa 1966'ish..... IBM 360 OS was the vehicle at the time.

    Thanks for the history. I have sine found out that there was a version
    of the software called Micro-Dynamo available for the Apple II back in
    '83.

    Does anyone know anything about this, or if there is a PC version ?

243.4Ah, the memories...JAMMER::JACKMarty JackTue Aug 08 1989 15:134
    Another person involved is Alexander Pugh (MIT prof). I believe he
    wrote most of it. I almost had it running on Multics as a term
    project in 1971. At that time, they had a company (Pugh-Roberts
    Associates) that was trying to market it, or whatever.

I worked for Pugh-Roberts Associates, Inc. for three years, during which time
I wrote the manuals for Micro-DYNAMO, Apple II and IBM PC versions. I have
copies in my office in Marlboro, if you're nearby.

DYNAMO is available for VAXen from PRA. They're on Lee Street in Cambridge,
Mass (the last I heard). Their main business is management consulting, not
selling DYNAMO. Ask for or write to the Software Group (and tell Jack I said
Hello).

Please send me mail if you want further info -- I don't normally read this
conference.
