1569.0. "local file cabinets on file shares" by GIDDAY::BACOT () Thu Apr 17 1997 06:48

I have a customer running MailWorks for VMS version 1.3A and TeamLinks
    V2.5-3

They are having problems with folders disappearing from the local file
cabinet and having to run fc repair on them. The cabinets repair ok
but a day or two later it will happen again.

When the explained that the local file cabinets are on a pathworks file
share and they are using the local file cabinets to share documents I
wondered if that may be causing the problems?

    Could anyone comment?

    thanks,

1569.1Should work ok. Look for interruptions.XANADU::x400it.zko.dec.com::manana::roughtThu Apr 17 1997 19:1024
I assume you are talking about TeamLinks local file cabinet. This note
really belongs in the TeamLinks conference since the MailWorks server
is not involved.

The most likely cause of a drawer corruption is the interruption of
a file cabinet update. When the file cabinet is on a file server,
the risk will increase but in a "healthy" environment, this should be
a very infrequent occurrance.

Are there frequent network interruptions at this site ? Network problems
while users are working with a file cabinet may cause this type of
problem.

Any users turn off their PC while TeamLinks is still updating the file
cabinet ?

Any VMS utilities running that would "touch" these files while the
TeamLinks users are still using the cabinet ?

Having the TeamLinks local file cabinet shared on a PathWorks file
server is supported. Look for a usage pattern that may be unusual.

Thanks for the info Dave, I'll check into those things.
You're right this belongs in TeamLinks, long day I guess. :)
    I'll move it there.
