1165.0. "PARTY: Wedding Shower Ideas" by BRAT::MORIN () Tue May 17 1988 19:08

    [Wedding Shower]

A friend of mine is getting is married in August, and we are have
a shower (of course) for her in July. I need some ideas for her
shower. I have seen some really great ideas for baby showers, but
    nothing for Wedding Showers.

Any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated.

    Hi,

I have just had my wedding shower a few weeks ago. Some of the neat
gifts I revieved were microwave, microwave cookware, and an icecream
maker. One brides maids came up with the idea to have every who
came to the shower to bring a recipe (a family classic). This way
the bride starts off with a nice collection of recipes. My bridesmaid
bought a recipe box and had every one drop their recipe in it.

Ideas for food, table decorations, just good ideas for throwing
    a wedding shower.

I just made a bunch of food for a bridal shower for 70 people. The
deserts went over real big. One of the favorites was mini whoopie-pies.
I took my regular recipe for the full size pies but made them in
bite-size pies. They were real cute and BOY- did they go fast!!

Depending on your energy level and the facilities, you might
try to go to "pick-up" type foods - little puffs or finger sandwiches
with tuna, crabmeat, egg sald stuffed in them that could be put out
in shifts (so it's not setting out in the heat all at once), cut
up veggies, stuffed cherry tomatoes, and that sort of stuff.
1165.6Cake and stuffHPSVAX::BSCHOFIELDFri Jun 03 1988 20:0317
A nice idea, if YOU (or someone you know) is making a cake for the
shower, is to copy the shower invitation onto the cake. My Mom
and I did that for my sis-in-law, and it came out great. Now (2
years later) we are doing the same thing for her baby shower.

At my bridal shower, my bridesmades had everyone bring a spice of
some sort so I could start out with a full cabinet, (and array)
of different spices. Something I probably wouldn't have done myself.
My Maid of Honor's fiance made me a 'wishing well' and everyone
put the spice bottles in there. It was really cute.

As far as food goes, finger foods are better, muchies - the best.
That way no one (the older ladies) has to worry about spilling or
balancing while in a chair, not at the table.

The cake is a nice personal touch. My sis-in-law loved it. Good
    Luck!!
1165.8A lamb themeHOCUS::KOLANKOWSKIAlyoop!Thu Jul 21 1988 14:0938
I know this is probably late, but my sisters shower is this Sunday,
and this is what I'm doing.

Since her last name is going to be Lamb (as in Mary had a ...) the
theme is Lambs. Consequently, everyone was asked to bring a small
lamb gift (for the wishing well) or use lamb paper. So far we have
lamb magnets, placemats, salt and pepper shakers, etc.

Since my sister hates to cook, all the invitations included a card
that said "My Favorite Restaurant" so that her future husband will
have a list of places to take her to eat. (BTW, we also got the
groom gift-certficates to fast-food restaurants to tide him over!)

We are having a "Who are Ewe?" Raffle. We had posters made of baby
pictures of the bride and groom, and silly as it seems, they could
be the same baby, so all the guests will be asked to decide who
is who, and the first correct answer gets a bottle of champagne,
the first wrong answer gets a chocolate turkey.

And speaking of chocolate, as favores my mother and I made chocolate
roses (white rose, greeen leaves, all chocolate!) as well as little
chocolate lambs for each table, and larger solid lambs to put on
    her cake.

I am making her wishing well, so I bought her a trash can, broom,
mop, dust-pan, bucket, cookie sheets, laundry basket, dish drainer,
sink mat to make it with. The bridal party bought her a microwave.

The shower is being held in a restaurant, so I don't have to clean
    up, just set up.

Well, this is what I'm doing, I'm glad I only have one sister.

Hope this helps; wish me luck!

    And for what reason?

    Wishing Well -

At my shower my Maid of Honor's fiance made it of a wastebasket
    - covered with pretty paper - and used construction paper to make
the roof. In it, everyone was asked to bring a certain spice and
put it in there. That way, I started off my marriage with a full
spice collection. (And since they can be expensive, it was nice
not to have to go out and BUY all of them!)

1165.11Make it out of household itemsHOCUS::KOLANKOWSKIAlyoop!Thu Jul 06 1989 17:5015
For my sister's shower we made the wishing well out of a garbage
can, bucket, broom, mop, and cookie sheets for the top. It was
cute. We even included a laundry basket. Everthing matched her
    kitchen.

The purpose of the wishing well is just to give the bride something
little to start out with or one whole thing (like in the last note).

My sister got things like napkins, papertowels, peelers, measuring
    cups, spoons, etc.

    Regards

I've seen wishing wells used as a place to put cards containing
money from guests who have done that instead of buying a gift.
I suppose this way there's less chance of just a card by itself
    getting lost.

I just had a lingerie bridal shower last Sunday and I made potpourri
satchets for favors for everyone. Make them just like rice bags
and fill with potpourri instead of rice. I made mine 8 inch squares
and tied them with ribbons the colors of the wedding (blue and yellow).
I've got a book at home with some ideas. I'll TRY to remember to
look at it this weekend and see what it says. What type of shower
    is it (kitchen, miscellaneous, etc.)?

What we made was white chocolate roses on long stemsd and then wrapped
the stems in hot pink ribbon (the color of my attendants dresses)
and put a pink bow on them. They were really pretty.

Although this might, indeed, make a fascinating wedding shower nibble,
the recipe is a tad cryptic, don't you think?
