1670.0. "CONTESTS" by LEZAH::FARINA () Thu Mar 09 1989 22:03

    Hi. I'm trying to find a recipe contest for two chocolate recipes
    I developed. I posted a note in the Chocolate notes file and someone
    said that Chocolatier Magazine has one each year, but I haven't found
    any information in the last two Chocolatiers I picked up. Has anyone
    else heard of any? I have people clamoring for my recipes, but
    don't want to give them out until I've entered them in a contest.
    It doesn't have to be a chocolate contest, but a dessert or baking
    contest (actually one of each - one requires no baking). If I buy one
    more food magazine, my roommate will have to move out to make room
    for them!

1670.2No-flour recipes!LEZAH::FARINAFri Mar 10 1989 15:2411
    Well, I've read the Pillsbury Bake-Off Book (winners from previous
    years), and the common ingredient is Pillsbury flour. I'm not
    necessarily above lying on the brand, but one of my concoctions
    is a cheesecake, which contains no flour at all! The other has
    a minimal amount of flour. I will check it out, in case there are
    other categories, though. Nestle used to have one, too. What about
    Hershey? Does anyone know of a contest sponsored by them? I've
    used Hershey chocolate in my recipes, and - believe it or not -
    they result in the most flavorful cakes (in these recipes anyway).
    Just writing to Hershey in Hershey, PA seems a little too "loose."
    That's what I'll do, if necessary, though!
1670.3That's all that's there!BOOKIE::AITELEveryone's entitled to my opinion.Fri Mar 10 1989 18:435
    I'm absolutely sure that if you wrote to hershey in hershey penn
    the letter would get to them! Try addressing it to Public Relations
    or Baking Contests or some combo.

    I just dialled 1-800-HER-SHEY - you might try it. I got put on
    hold so didn't hang long enough to ask questions, but it could be
    them! If not, 800 directory assistance would would probably have
    a number (800-555-1212). I'm too impatient to do letters unless
    I need the documentation!

    Good luck!

1670.8Update on ContestsLEZAH::FARINAFri Mar 31 1989 16:0520
    Just thought I'd mention that I called the Hershey 800 number .4
    suggested, and they're for reservations in Hershey, PA. But they
    directed me to a consumer hotline, and they DON'T have recipe contests.
    They did, however, send me (immediately!) some brochures of Hershey
    recipes, including two that contain nothing but low-cholesterol,
    low-fat desserts. I haven't tried any yet, but they sound good,
    and they were more than happy to send me the recipes, so if anyone
    else is interested . . . Guess what? I through out their number!
    But it can be obtained by calling 800-555-1212 and asking for the
    800 number for Hershey Consumer Relations (or something darn close
    to that!).

    I did get the latest issue of Chocolatier, though, and will be entering
    my concoction in their contest. I'll also be checking out Yankee
    Magazine's contest for my other "secret recipe."

    I'll let you know how it goes (although Chocolatier's won't be decided
    until October!).

    In case anyone is interested, I entered my recipe for Triple Chocolate
    Cheesecake in the Chocolatier contest. I guess I won't know until
    October, but I'll have my fingers crossed until then!

    My cousin won in the Yankee contest, either last year or the year
    before. She made some type of a sweet potate and sausage dish.
    It was great to be a "taster" for her. I wonder if she is going
    to try again this year?

1670.19Pillsbury, Nestle, ChocolatierCUPTAY::FARINATue Apr 09 1991 16:0714
    I have entered Chocolatier Magazine's contest (I didn't win, but they
    just published my recipe in this month's issue), a Nestle contest, and
    the Pillsbury Bakeoff. I haven't won any (although Nestle sent me a
    cookbook for entering). I haven't heard from Nestle or Chocolatier
    again, but the Pillsbury folks send me something every year to get me
    to enter again. Pillsbury is in the fall. I don't remember when
    Nestle's was. Chocolatier had to be entered in August for the
    following spring. There is no mention of the contest in the April
    issue (perhaps because they consider it the late winter issue).

    If you enter any, good luck! Let us know.

    I have been tempted to enter some recipes but when I think of it I
    either can't find a contest and/or it's too late.

    Re: .3/4 - you were in the Pillsbury bake-off? I always read about
    that but never knew of anyone who entered it. And, having your recipe
    published in a major magazine...I'm impressed. I subscribe to Gourmet
    and have often wanted to submit one of many favorite recipes with the
    hope that they publish my letter. It's on one of my 'to do' lists...

    I guess I just have to keep my eyes and ears open - so I appreciate any
    advice, tips, addresses, networking, etc.!

    Thanks,
