3848.0. "Freezing ready-to-eat dinners" by GMAJOR::WALTER (used to be Aquilia) Mon Sep 13 1993 15:43

I am not sure if this is appropriate, or I should say, a topic has been
written already, but I couldn't find anything doing a few dir/titles
    so here I am.

Going on maternity leave shortly, I have been told that I should have
several frozen things ready for the days that I just don't have time to
    cook.

I was wondering if there are any suggestions for casseroles or easy to
freeze items. I would love to use the vegatables that are in season
still and have just started to freeze some applesauce in hopes that my
little one will be able to try some the first of the year.

I have also been told that spicy things shouldn't be eaten while
breastfeeding along with sweet things for the sake of sanity purposes,
if you know what I mean.

Any suggestions would be most helpful and if this note is elsewhere,
moderator please let me know. Thanks!

If it's casseroles you're looking for, the COOKS directories in note
5.* would have been a good place to start. Note 5.3 has:

    Casseroles 246 61 8-APR-1986

Looks like you could probably continue further discussion in that note.

If it's freezing tips you're looking for, DIR/TITLE=freez provides the
    following notes:

cj, I'm in the same position. Freeze marinara sauce and soups. Or use
the lists in .1 to find some good freezing tips and casseroles suitable
    for freezing.

Another good idea is have someone stay with you. My mom is going to
spend the first couple of weeks helping out around the house. Cooking
    will be *her* job! :-)

    Good luck!

About a month ago I brought some stuff over to a friends
house who were expecting. They politely said thank you for
the macaroni and cheese, chicken parmegian, sauce/meatballs
I sent and let it go at that. Everything was already frozen
    and labeled with cooking instructions.

Well, they now have a 10 day old daughter and have called
to thank me profusely for the dinners. What they originally
thought was an odd thing to do has made the first few days
    together a little easier.

I freeze ready-to-eat dinners all the time.

Currently in my freezer are: lasagna, shephard's pie, meatballs, bean
soup (stew, really), and red beans and rice (spicy :-) etc.

Another very helpful thing is to freeze cooked chicken or other meat.
It can be thawed and eaten in a sandwich, salad, tossed with spaghetti
and sauce, melt cheese over it in the microwave, toss it with some
veggies in broth and it's soup, etc.
