3415.0. "Cooking/Tasting vacation information?" by FORUM::ANDERSON () Mon Jan 13 1992 18:25

    I did a directory title/search for 'vacation', 'trip' and 'tour' and
    couldn't find the information I need.

    Does anyone know of or heard of a trip/vacation you could take to
    a foreign country (I am from the U.S.) to visit either restaurants,
    cooking schools, towns...where you taste the food? Sound familiar?

    Thanks

Pick up almost any issue of almost any cooking magazine, and look in
the advertising section in the back. You'll usually find several ads
for organized gastronomic tours of various countries. Some are oriented
to wine-lovers, some to cooks, and some to just plain eating folks.
Most appear to be on the expensive side, but, according to several
friends who've done some of these tours, you get your money's worth.
They generally involve first class eating and excellent accommodations.
And, of course, they're conducted in English. I'm sorry I don't know
enough to recommend any by name.

    In the past, one of the women associated with the newsletter from
    King Arthur's Baking Sheet has done a "Bread Tour of Germany".

    Related Topic: I heard of a weekend in NH which includes lodging and
    meals and an extended cooking class with a master chef. Does anyone
    know the name of this hotel?

    (WGBH had this on their auction last year.)

    I subscribe to Gourmet and receive Bon Apetit (a gift) so I will check
    them out tonight when I get home. Thanks for the tips.

    And, if anyone can remember the one in New Hampshire ( - .1) please
    let us know.

    Thank you!

I (actually my wife) is looking for something like the place in N.H.
but in the Southern U.S. specializing in Southern type cooking.

Does any one know of a hotel/B&B or some such that offers practical
cooking courses?
