2445.0. "Masa Harina in the UK????" by TRUCKS::GKE () Fri Jun 01 1990 17:06

I did a dir/title="Masa Harina" and I did not find anything.. so
    here goes.

Does anyone anywhere know where I can buy Masa Harina (the special
corn preparation that is soaked in lime and then stone ground into
corn tortilla flour) here in the UK? I live in the Southampton
area but would be willing to travel anywhere in the general area
to get some. I also have connections in Reading if anyone knows
if it might be possible to get it there.

I've heard that good delicatessens and health food stores are known
to stock it (the brand I have always used is done by Quaker in the
States) but all the ones I have frequented only have Polenta Meal
or Corn Meal which is not it at all.

I've managed to make some really good tamales using something I
found in an Asian cash and carry called Stone Ground White Corn
Grit flour but it is not adequate for other Mexican dishes...

Please help if you can! I'm desperate!! ;-)

Check out small grocery stores in any area that is known to have
a significant Spanish population. My husband and I had searched high and
low for Masa Harina, until we found it right under our noses right in
downtown Nashua, NH!

I found a distributor for Mexican foods in the UK in Liverpool but
it turned out they only sell prepared tortillas for restaurants
and do not carry Masa Harina.

Is there anyone here that has a bag of Masa Harina by Quaker that
could give me the address off the bag so that I can write to them
and ask them if their product is distributed in the UK?

    I'd really appreciate it!

    many thanks in advance,
    gailann

La Mexicana is a food company I have located here in the UK, that
market a range of TEXMEX and Mexican foods. You can get everything
from corn tortillas to made up tamales and Mexican rice.. etc.
(Masa Harina is the cheapest I've found it)

The address is: 17 Faraday Road, Rabans Lane, Aylesbury, Bucks. HP19
3RY - Telephone 0296-84243 and the FAX is 0296-393387. If you would
like a photo copy of the price list or a FAX of it sent to you, then
please mail me. I have extra copies on my desk.
