2085.0. "Thanksgiving Treats for Nursery School" by GIAMEM::JM_AMBERSON () Mon Nov 06 1989 12:55

My sons birthday is in late November, and sometimes falls on
Thanksgiving. I need to send in a snack to his nursery school
the day before Thanksgiving so that they can have a little party.
Anyone have any ideas? In the past I've made a Turkey cake
(using a Wilton cake pan). The school he attends now would perfer
not to have a cake but instead individual treats.

    Thanks

    Joann

Why not make cookies with a turkey cookie cutter, and if you feel real
ambitous, get a list of names from the school and personalize each
cookie. Another idea is to make cupcakes in the mini pans and decorate
    them.

My sister and I used be avoid chocolate lollipop makers. We would buy those
Chocolate disks that they sell at some cooking stores, and the lollipop molds of
figures like teddy bears, ice cream cones, etc. One of the molds was for
a Turkey, so we would use colored white chocolate to color the feathers, and
use milk chocolate for the rest of the candy.

How about pumpkin muffins??? Or pumpkin cookies? I have a recipe
for cookies that is basically an oatmeal cookie with pumpkin mash
added.. the cookies come out an orangie colour and the kids love
    them.. same with the muffins.

Potatoes make great candy for a treat for chidren, mash white potatoes
add a flavor such a maple or almond and coat the whole potatoe with
chocklet (spelling) and they do enjoy them. And they are good for
    them. Don Allen

Do you have to add sugar or maple syrup to the potato, to make it
into a sweet filling, or does the chocolate make it sweet enough?
Do you mash the potatoes with milk and butter? or just plain?

My Mom used to make potato candy another way:

Peel and boil a medium to large potato until soft.
Mash it up with a fork.
Add powdered sugar--enough to make a rollable dough...about
    	  1 lb.
    	Roll into a rectangle.
    	Spread with peanut butter.
Roll up like a jelly roll.
    	Slice about 1/4 in thick.

This is so easy that the kids can make these!
