943.0. "Hispanic Grocery Stores?" by STEREO::GONZALEZ () Thu Jan 21 1988 18:41

    I live in Amherst, NH and am looking for a grocery store that has
    a good Hispanic food selection.

    Does anyone know of any in this area?

    If not, how about in Lowell or Leominster/Fitchburg, Ma?

    Thanks.

943.1Try Gomez GroceryCSSE32::RHINEJack Rhine - DTN: 381-2439Sat Jan 23 1988 04:028
I have seen Gomez grocery in Nashua, but haven't gone in. They have posters
in the window for Goya brand canned goods and my wife has bought cilantro
there. It is on Orange St. If you follow Amherst St. into Nashua and bear
right on to Main St. then turn left on Canal St (where Dunkin Donuts is) and
then take the next left, that is Orange St.

I also noticed a few Hispanic grocery stores on Rt. 28 on the north side of
Lawrence.
943.3Spanish American GroceryCSSE32::RHINEJack Rhine - DTN: 381-2439Sat Jan 30 1988 00:053
Until I was reminded by the Nashua Telegraph, I forgot about the Spanish
American Grocery which is at 50 Whitney St. I can't give you exact directions,
but it is north of Canal St. and east of Orange St. where Gomez is located.
943.4Are these stores still open?GIAMEM::SBARRCommon Sense Is Not So CommonWed Apr 10 1991 18:0816
    I did a DIR/TITLE=GROCERY and came up with this 'old' note dating back
    to 1988.

    Does anyone know if Gomez Grocery on Orange St. or the Spanish American
    Market on Whitney St. in Nashua are still open? (See notes .1 & .3)

    I live in Londonderry and have found that there are no places around to
    get fresh spanish veggies. We have been looking for Yuca, batata,
    cilantro and even some cheeses, but have to resort to our Mass.
    locations. Does anyone know of any other markets that have these
    items??? The only thing I sometimes see in the regular
    supermarkets are Plantains.

    Can anyone answer why Market Basket for instance, sells cilantro in
    most Mass. stores, but I have yet to see it in the Market Baskets in
    N.H.???
943.5Cilantro on NashuaCUPTAY::FARINAWed Apr 10 1991 20:478
    I can't answer your questions about Gomez Grocery or the Spanish
    American Market, but I know I saw fresh cilantro in either the
    Alexander's at the Nashua Mall or at Market Basket in the K-Mart Plaza
    in Nashua on Easter weekend. It was next to the parsley. I'm pretty
    sure it was Alexander's.

  The Spanish American grocery store is still there. The shop that used
to be called Gomez's is still there, but I think it's named something else
now. I'm not sure if either one sells fresh produce, though.

943.7Try Alfredo's in NashuaCSSE32::RHINEA dirty mind is a terrible thing to wasteThu Apr 11 1991 22:265
    Gomez is now Jesus.

    There is a Mexican market, Alfredo's, on West Hollis about a half a
    block from Main St (where Social Security used to be). They usually
    have fresh Cilantro, several different types of chorizo, etc, etc.

    	Purity in Royal ridge usually has cilantro. I bought some there
    	on Tuesday.

943.9But chorizo seeds are hard to find. CSCOAC::ANDERSON_MDwell in possibilityMon Apr 15 1991 15:395

    And if you can't find cilantro _anywhere_, it is very easy to grow.
    Mine's just about to bloom now....

943.10Fields of chorizo as far as the eye can seeSTAR::DIPIRROTue Apr 16 1991 13:324
    	I realize it was a typo in (.-1), but I can't resist. I wonder what
    would grow if you *did* plant chorizo seeds. I have this image of a
    field of sausages sticking out of the ground...I'd better stop before I
    start getting calls from the Freudian amateur psychologists out there.
943.12Alexander's has cilantroWEORG::DARROWTue Apr 23 1991 15:433
The Alexander's next to Burlington Coat in Nashua carries cilantro.
I've found it there more reliably than at Purity.
