1884.0. "Mocha Walnut Torte" by TBEARS::JOHNSON () Wed Jul 19 1989 15:39

Here is a recipe taken (without permission) from the Better Homes
and Garden's Prize Tested Recipes. I have been making for years
and have gotten several compliments on it. This torte is very
easy and quick to make, and delicious!

			Enjoy! Linda

Ingredients for Torte:

1 c. walnuts 3/4 c. sugar
2 Tbsp flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
4 eggs walnut halves (optional)

Ingredients for Mocha Frosting:

1 tsp. INSTANT coffee, crushed
1 c. whipping cream
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. cocoa powder (unsweetened)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease and flour 2 - 8 X 1 1/2 inch round pans.
In a small bowl, combine nuts, flour and baking powder and set aside.
In blender container, blend eggs and sugar until smooth. Add nut
mixture, cover and blend until smooth. Pour into pans.

Bake at 350 for 20 - 25 minutes (until lightly browned). Cool
10 minutes, remove from pans and place on wire racks.

Meanwhile, In a small bowl dissolve 1 tsp. crushed instant coffee
into 1 c whipping cream. Beat on low speed with mixer until
slightly thickened. Add sugar and cocoa powder, beat until thick.

Spread this frosting between layers and on top and sides of completely
cooled torte.

Chill several hours

Guess I'm confused...Only 2 Tbsp flour and this will fill
    2 - 8 x 1 1/2 inch round pans?

Do you cut each cake and then have 4 layers?

    Sounds good...

    Thanks.

Yes, only 2 Tbsp of flour is used. The mixture is rather soupy, and
fills only about 1/4 of each pan.

Remember, this is a torte, not a cake, the layers are thin ... It's
light but rich (if that makes sense).

You should "frost" one layer, then place the 2nd one on top of the
frosted one and cover the whole torte with "frosting"...no need
to cut them in half.

	It *really* is yummy!
