3234.0. "Food dehydrator." by CHIPS::DACOSTA () Tue Sep 24 1991 15:41

    Several weeks ago while watching television on a Saturday
    morning, I turned the channel to one of the 1/2 hr.
    "commercial" shows. During this particular show, the host
    was demonstrating a food dehydrator. The item was made
    out of plastic and contained about 5 shelves in which to
    place food. I believe the unit sold for $59.95. People
    wishing to purchase the unit were to call a toll free 800
    number.

    At the time I didn't pay too much attention to the unit
    however, since then I've decided that I'd like to purchase
    one of these.

    Did anyone happen to watch the same show and make a note
    of the phone number?

    Thanks,
    Tony

3234.3Better to have a thermostat and a fanVSSCAD::FORTMILLEREd Fortmiller, LTN1-2, 226-6188Wed Sep 25 1991 15:409
    We don't own a dehydrator so I'm no expert but I do know that if I
    were to buy one I would get one with a thermostat and a fan. I once
    borrowed a RONCO which had neither and it heated unevenly. Also
    another feature to consider is the design of the trays. Some units
    only have a heater at the bottom and depend on the heat rising up
    through all the trays which means that lower ones can block the air
    flow to the upper ones. Some units have special channels to deliver
    heated air to each tray individually. I believe that the units by
    Harvest Maid have the above features.

    Is this contraption designed to dry herbs and such?

    You can dry herbs but just tieing them together and hanging them in a
    warm, dry place. An attic would work particularly well. I've dried
    herbs by simply hanging them off the end of the curtain rod in the
    kitchen.
3234.6parts for RoncosANGLIN::BRUNNERThu Oct 08 1992 18:569
	I have an old Ronco dehydrator and even tho it is a bit uneven and
quirky I'm used to it and its paid for. The problem I have is that the
drying trays are getting very brittle and breaking up. These trays are 7 or 8
years old so I'm not upset about it but I had an address to order new trays
when I got the unit and my letters are now being returned with a " Forwarding
expired" note on them.
	Does anyone know where replacement trays can be ordered for Ronco
dehydrators?

3234.8Immerse heater in water for cleaning?NCOAST::BROWNWed Oct 14 1992 16:102
    With the Ronco can the base of the unit with the heating element be
    safely immersed in water? (While not plugged in of course)

    My unit (not a Ronco) has BIG letters saying not to immerse base....
