587.0. "Tuna Melt" by BEING::POSTPISCHIL (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Thu Apr 23 1987 02:15

    This is probably pretty mundane for this conference, but I love tuna,
    and I want to know how to make tuna melt. Can anybody help?

587.1Start with Grilled Cheese.ARCH::MANINAThu Apr 23 1987 16:549
    Start like you were going to make a grilled cheese sandwich and
    add some tuna and a tomatoe slice and grill.

    You do know how to make a grilled cheese sandwich, don't you? If
    not will post it.

    I toast an english muffin, when it's almost done add a slice of
    tomato and some cheese. Put it back in the toaster over/broiler
    and let the cheese melt, when it's done top it with tuna.

    You can scoop out the middle of a tomato (keep the sides thick),
    bake it in the oven till warm, fill the whole with tuna.

    Have you ever had fresh tuna...mmmmm!

587.3and for a crowd...FDCV13::SANDSTROMFri Apr 24 1987 19:379

    	Because I usually make these for a crowd I toast them in the
    oven. Just put the tuna, cheese and whatever else in the bread,
    wrap with foil and pop them in the oven for about 10 minutes to
    melt the cheese and toast the bread. Now everyone can eat at once
    and you save calories by not buttering the bread on the outside
    like you would to grill them!

    Re .*:

    I tried it (just grilling it, as in .1); it works. I would have sworn
    there were other ingredients; I did not know the consistency of tuna
    changed like that when heated. Thanks.

    Here's one that we love.....

    	Provolone cheese
    	2 slices bacon per person (more if you like)
    	toasted marble or wheat bread
    	tuna....white not light junk
    	mayo
    	onion
    	mustard

    Prepare tuna with mayo as desired, chopped onion and I add just
    about a tablespoon of mustard per can of tuna (Spicey brown is great!)
    it adds a nice little "ting". Sometimes I also add a dash of garlic
    salt/powder, too. When the bacon is just about done, I toast the
    bread and AS SOON as it is toasted I place a piece of provo cheese on
    the toast, add the tuna to it, then the bacon and serve! Another
    sometimes addition is a slice of tomatoe!!!

    Enjoy!
587.6How much and what size?NYOB::KOLANKOWSKIFri Jul 31 1987 16:024
    How much mayo? Isn't a tablespoon of mustard too much? What size
    can of tuna?

587.7A HEALTHIER VERSION TO A TUNA MELTESKIMO::GRILLOThu Sep 14 1989 16:1911
    HERE'S A HEALTHY VERSION FOR A TUNA MELT:

    SPRAY SOME BUTTER FLAVORED PAM INTO A NON-STICK TEFLON PAN. PUT
    SOME DRY TUNA (WATER PACKED IF YOU'RE WEIGHT/HEALTH CONSCIOUS)
    AND PUT A SLICE OF TOMATO AND A SLICE OF SWISS CHEESE ON TOP OF
    IT. KEEP COVERED OVER A LOW FLAME UNTIL THE CHEESE MELTS.

    SCOOP INTO WHEAT OR WHITE SYRIAN BREAD POCKET, ADD SOME ALPHALA
    SPROUTS TO IT.

    IT IS EXCELLENT!! (THE CHEESE TASTE REALLY COMES THROUGH!!) ENJOY!!
