570.0. "Blank The Plank.....I think we have a contestant." by CHEFS::CROSSA (It's getting better all the time) Thu Aug 01 1996 14:47

I think the conference could do with a new pastime so I have devised a
game we can all play throughout the day. The rules are very simple (as
the title implies) and it takes no effort by most people to take part.
Basically one noter acts like a complete plank and the rest of us blank
him. Could not be simpler eh? What do you reckon?

     I can't imagine who you're referring to, Stretch ;-)

And what does "blank" mean in this context? Cockney rhyming slang?

It's because I have an cockney uncle who drives a taxi in
London, so I have to support a London team....actually I qualify to play
for England as my grandfather was born in England, (somewhere around
Newcastle), just in case Hoddle's reading this....

Ray,

You are not eligible to play for England for the simple reason that you
can only play with one foot and stop running after about 5 minutes. You
also never pass and have never heard of the concept of defending your
own goal.

This will no doubt be proven yet again tonight during the 5-a-side.

Rgds, Steve.

PS. Any childish attempt to kick the wasname out of me tonight will only
prove the point.

Can anyone play this game or is it just for narrow minded people who do
not like it if someone has a different opinion from their own? Do all
the noters have to support the same team to play so that there can be
no difference of opinion? Maybe everyone has to remove their sense of
    humour to play this game!

Now now don't you go getting all upset with the big bad noter.Letting
people upset you so much is bad for your blood pressure and can lead to
a breakdown.Remember, sticks and stones may break your bones but names

Why do you dedicate a conference to a "little boy" who is a "wee bit

Now for some sad news.I'm going on holiday for the next two weeks and

    >Why do you dedicate a conference to a "little boy" who is a "wee bit
    >boring/repetitive"? Strange behaviour if you ask me!

Just to be a tad pedantic - the conference is dedicated to the
discussion of FOOTBALL, and not your wee self. This entry was created
I believe by Stretch partly out of fun, and partly to determine if
anybody else in the conference thought you were, and I quote, a
"Plank". Amazingly somebody else has been defending your rather inane
little comments by referring to them as "humorous". I simply extracted
a random selection of your witty little remarks to convince your ally
that perhaps they are only humorous if you happen to be under-12.

Enjoy your hols - I know we will !

BTW - I'm assuming that you are a Rangers fan - is that right ?

No wonder ROBBK is away on holiday he probably needs a break from all
the bitter, dour people in this conference who can't seem to see the
lighter side of the game or see when someone is trying to wind them up.

Besides most football fans i know [fans being people who go to games on
a regular basis] actually like a bit of good natured banter! I find the
people who are least likely to take this are those who spout off about
football from no closer to a stadium than the front of the tv.
570.23Re 520.22CHEFS::UKFURNITUREThu Aug 08 1996 13:378
I'm sorry but I didn't realise typing "Shearer" a few times in a note
was "good natured banter", nor typing "ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz...". I don't
think the point of a notes conference is to wind people up either.
Sorry for being so "bitter" and "dour" but I prefered the rather better
quality of good natured banter that occured in this conference before
    ROBBK arrived.

re .22 (another unsigned noter from VYGER::)
I don't think that it is correct that noters in here are 'dour, bitter
people'. I also think that a lot of them attend football matches on a
regular basis. Most of them probably know that Kevin is trying to wind
them up, but he is not doing it very well and is becoming boring and
repetitive. It is probably fair to say that most of his notes are
content-free. It would be nice if he, once in a while, contributed
    something constructive to the conference.
    regards,
    DaveT
