    Well,I might as well be the first one in to the new KILLIENOTES.
    
    The Record today says that Killie have managed to unload "goalkeeper"
    Dave Mckellar to Rangers as cover for Scotland goalie Andy Goram. All I
    can say to you bluenoses out there is that you had better hope Goram
    doesn't get injured. Make no mistake this guy is MINCE ! 
    The surprising thing about this is that this must be the first player
    that Fleeting has sold and recouped the money he paid for him (20K).
    Everyone else gets bought for 50K and given away as a free.
    
    
    The record also says killie have a dutch player on trial at the moment.
    Personally I think it's about time Messrs Fleeting,Mcsherry and
    Coulston were put on trial and found guilty but that's another matter.

    Whats up at Killie?. This was to be the year they were going to win the
    First division. Last season Fleeting said they were not quite ready for
    promotion but would be in a better position this season to go up.
    Shock...Horror...look who's top of the 1st Division to-day!!!.
    Killie five points adrift already cannot afford many more slip ups.
    I think its only a matter of time before Fleeting quits, the sooner the 
    better I think.

    
    
     How long has Jim Fleeting got as manager of Kilmarnock. His team are
    currently 7 points behind the league leaders, Dundee who they meet at
    Dens Park on Saturday. Will a defeat force his resignation or will his
    big brother have the guts to admit how useless Jim is as a manager and
    finally sack him? Given the amount of money that has been spent at
    Rugby Park since the arrival of the Fleetings, they cannot continue
    just being a very average first division club (some would say very
    crap but I don't want to stir things up too much). Personally I hope he
    stays a bit longer as it gives me great delight every Saturday too see
    Killie dropping point after point.

    Mcsherry being pushed back down to coach (ha!). Can anybody out there

I missed Friday's meeting about the proposed move to a new ground. All I
know is that they would move to Scott Ellis area, ASDA are to build a shopping
center.

How were these plans received by the fans.

Is it a dream of Fleetings or will there be a chance of this happening.

I'm not sure but I believe we get a bye in the first round.


As for not really caring, I'm too depressed by the league form just now. I
do feel that we will turn it around but its now a question of time.

By the way I hear Bob Fleeting says he can find $500 K to buy soem players
my concern is that his pudden of a brother has already wasted more on real
dross. So hopefully hell get pushed upstairs and TB gets the job.

    Quite agree about not letting Fleeting buy any new players - TB or
    anyone else for that matter could easily do better. The wave of
    resentment against Fleeting that has become the majority view in recent
    weeks is long long overdue in my book.
    
    "Super" Johnny Sludden is banging the goals in for East Fife again -
    what's the bets that this will be another one who'll come back to haunt
    us.

    All i can say about saturday,s game is that we got the two points,apart
    from that we were crap.For 90 minutes we just continually kicked the
    ball up in the air the only one to show any kind of idea was porteous
    when he came on,how callachan got to be a professional football player
    i will never know.As for geddes,i think it is time he was dropped the
    only problem being we haven,t got anybody else to put in.

    Is that the same Porteous that used to be on Aberdeens' books (& Alex
    Ferguson's knee).

In answer to the previous note, yes he used to play for Aberdeen. So in 
Fleetings book all he could be good for is reserve football. why he doesn't
get a chance to play more than one game in a row I just don't know.

As for saturday's game the only pass marks could be given to Porteous,
Monty ( at least he trys ), Williamson ( for those two runs only ).

As for the rest of them, Jack ( how could he miss and what a lazy sod ), 
Geddes ( dropsy ), and the rest of them didn't deserve their wages.

If raith weren't so bad we would never have won. Until late in the game
we hardly created a chance for the two forwards, and the chances that were
created was by our center forward ( williamson ) the rest of the puddens did
nothing to create, just punt the ball up the park. When we played it on the
ground it looked like we would run right over them. But we only tried it 
a couple of times then for some reason we went back to the punt up the
park.

If things dont improve we definitely wont get promoted and we will be pushed
to end up ahead of the filth down the road.

in six months.

But I think the point you are trying to make is that Killie got off to their 
usual early season start. You passed comments last year as well and look
what happened after that. So say what you will, but wiser men would keep
quiet. Its along time to end of the season.

    According to the weekend papers (lets face it their never wrong),
    Killie recorded their first home win in 6 months against Raith on
    Saturday. Home victories since the start of 1991 now total a very
    impressive 2. So unless you know better Dave, I'll stick with what 
    the papers say.
    
    Re. wiser men and keeping quiet.
    
    Why shouldn't we crow a bit. We've made our best start to a league
    campaign for as long as I can remember. We have no problem putting the
    ball in the back of the net, in fact our SUB Greg Shaw has scored more
    times this season than your flops put together. Although it's still
    early days I'm optimistic that it can only get better. I can tell your 
    a just a wee bit jealous.
     It's very amusing to all Ayr fans that, for all the money Killie have 
    spent, your still crap. All the pre season talk of how good Killie were
    going to be and how promotion was a nap, still brings a smile to my face.
    We've spent 50k compared with your 800k and we just can't stop scoring.

    After last years incessant stream of drivel which he poured into the
    Ayrshire notes and then had to swallow come the end of the season he
    has obviously learnt his lesson.
    
    This year he has been very quiet and while I miss his "interesting" and
    "witty" comments it is no real loss to the FOOTBALL note.

I thought that by now the Filth down the road would have realised that they 
never get it right. 

1. Killie's last home win was against Sparta Rotterdam in August. And unless
   I'm mistaken its not six months between August and October. 

2. As usual the Ayr filth shout from the hip, the true "Pride of Ayrshire" will
   come through by the end of the season, and we will see who's laughing then 
   Kev.

3. Its taken the boys a few games to settle but its a long..long way to the
   end of the season. I still dont like half the signings fleeting has made,
   but at least our Board has invested in the future, the most the Ayr board
   has done is invest in the gee-gee's at Ayr races.

4. Ayr have done very well with very limited resources, but as injury and 
   suspensions take effect, they will start to struggle and it wont be long
   till Kev & co are calling for blood.

    	You are totally missing the point I was trying to make. Last season
    you talked utter rubbish in everybody's notes and had to swallow it
    later on. You then talk of wiser men keeping quiet until the end of the
    season , which is exactly what you are doing. I just find that rather
    amusing given your track record. 
    
    Another couple of points;
    
    1.	The Sunday papers did state that it was Kilmarnock's first home
        LEAGUE win in 6 months. That is true.
    
    2.	If Ayr are playing well, I'll say it. If they are playing crap,
        I'll also say it. Seems you can only talk about Kilmarnock when
        they have won a game. Why don't you discuss them when they are not
        playing well, like the last 6 months for instance. 
    
    3.	I don't object to someone like you calling me filth, that's
        a problem that you have , not me, but it does bother me when you
    	say I'm wrong when even YOU know that I am right.
    
    p.s. It's "Shooting From The Lip" not "Shouting from the Hip"
    
    Tell the truth for a change, it might even remove some of the nastiness
    from your notes.

It seems that its easy to rile the Ayr supporters these days, you accuse me of 
jumping to the bait to easily, when all I was doing was baiting you back. So
boys don't get too excited.

On the subject of only commenting after Killie win, if you had looked back 
through the old conference, you would have seen that I have often critise the 
team and management at Rugby Park. I like a lot of other Killie supporters feel 
that Fleeting has wasted a fortune on the transfer market. I have also praised
Ayr for the good start they made to the season,( I hated saying that ), but I do
feel that the bubble will burst because of the lack of depth in the squad at 
Somerset.

Even though I feel Killie have wasted money on the transfer market, they have
a reasonable squad now to compete in the first division. They still lack one 
or two players, since some of the transfers they have made have not been
successful. However Killie have made an investment and are trying to plan for
the future, which Ayr are not doing. But the game is made on the park and I'm 
still hopeful that we will be up there at the end of the season. I have watched 
Killie home and away this season, and have yet to see them outplayed over 90 
mins. We haven't yet fully clicked, but considering the new players in the team
its not totally unexpected. But its not an excuse, we aren't scoring goals, we
don't kill teams off when we get ahead, and we are careless at the back, this
must be sorted out. 

But tonight its Morton at home, and a win's a must. Morton are a hot and cold 
team so we must start with a bit of commitment especially in midfield and try 
and pass the ball forward instead of the punt up the park.

The mighty ( sic ) Killie role on with their second home win on the trot, and
their third win in a row. Again the story was the same as the rest of the season
to date. We begin well and attack from the start, good play on the wings, ball
played to feet and after a couple of close calls we score a good goal. The two
Burn's combine ball ends up at Bobby Williamson's feet quick pass along the 
6 yard line and Campbell at the back post hits it under the keeper. A well 
worked goal but I feel that Bobby Williamson should have tried to score himself,
this showed our major failing so far this season, lack of confidence up front to
put the ball in the net.

The next 10 mins we were all over Morton but again failed to deliver the killer
punch, as half time approached Morton came back into the game. Poor kicking from
Geddes kept us pinned back at times when we had the ball, unless he can be more
accurate with goal kicks etc we must learn to make defenders more avaliable for
quick throw outs.

The second half started were the first finished, with Morton playing well and
Killie pined back. But it was Killie who looked more likely they would score. 
Good chances were missed at both ends of the park. Geddes saved well from long
range efforts and Killie defended well. The two best chances to score fell to
Killie from quick attacks from midfield. Riley missed the best in the last few
minutes when with goal at his mercy he duffed a header from 6 ft.

At the end of the game Morton deserved a point for effort but saying that they 
never really looked like scoring. 

Killie picked up the two points but must still worry about not getting the ball
in the net. Good game from the new boy Hugh Burns ( aged 25 not 34 as the papers
said ), Monty, Flexney. Up front Williamson is trying too hard and Campbell 
struggled in the air.

So away on Saturday and next Tuesday, we must improve if we are to pick up two
points and progress in the cup, but at least we are picking up points.

    Good report,Dave - that's pretty much how it went though I think Reilly
    made the most of a cross that was always going behind him and was
    unlucky.
    
    After the 1st quarter of the season every one has played each other and
    of those that I've seen I don't think we have any one to fear. That's
    says a lot for the dross that is the 1st Division this year. After a
    poor start we have hauled ourselves in to the pack at the top - only a
    point behind the Ayrshire giants (ho ho ho) now - so much for their
    brilliant start. I would expect the teams that gain promotion this year
    will be the ones with the biggest pools and can cope with injuries etc.
    'cos no-one in the league is any better than anyone else.

    I agree with your views, no team in the first divison stands a chance
    against the big boys in the premier league. No team that I've seen
    either at rugby park or away is better than killie, and we aren't that
    good. 
    
    Can someone post the result from the cup matches this week, I'm in the

    A pretty poor advert for Div. 1 if these two are meant to be potential
    Premier League teams. Killie started well but within 3 minutes went
    behind to an Irons free kick that deflected off Hugh 'Thunder Thighs'
    Burns and sent Norman Bates the wrong way. After some great work by
    Thunder thighs he squared the ball to Williamson who rattled the ball
    in off the cross bar from 12 yards after 20 minutes or so. Sustained
    Killie pressure eventually paid off on the 40 minute mark when killie
    got a corner from a superb T.T lob was cleared off the line. Thunder
    took the corner himself and laid the ball on Campbell's forehead to
    score.
    With Killie still basking in the applause after the restart fat boy
    mcglashan out paced Tait (hard to beleive I know) and squared for Law
    to score. More Killie pressure followed with Thistle goalie Murdoch
    single handedly keeping things even with a string of brilliant saves.
    Eventually the inevitable happened T.B (crap again) had a shot blocked
    and with Killie upfield Fatty (running backwards and stopping
    occasionally to speak to passers by) outpaced Tait slid the ball to the
    far post where Mcskimming should have been covering shaw ...3-2.
    
    Oh well there goes the unbeaten run.

    getting to Rugby Park from Edinburgh after turning out for the front

I hate to say it but it looks a draw for Saturdays game. I'm picking a 2-2 game
with Killie fighting back in the second half. And Ayr hanging on for a draw.

Well another derby game has come and gone, before the game I predicted that it
would be a draw with the balance between a poor killie attack and a weak Ayr
defense. However weak is not the work I would use to describe the Ayr defense,
more like pathetic. They gave killie possesion too easily and were made to pay
for it. Firstly a great goal by Tommy Burns, most players would have missed with
that lob from 35 yards. The second goal mitchel put away well when gifted the
opportunity. The third one from Williamson was well deserved, it was good to
see him get a reward for all the work he does upfront.

Good points from the game:

Paterson was solid at the back and always dangerous when pushed forward.
Midfield controlled the game after the first 15 mins.
Williamson never stoped working upfront.

Bad points:

Ross Jack getting booked late in the game for a stupid tackel.
Geddes still needs to learn to kick the ball out properly.
We still punt the ball up the park far to often.

Best point:

WE WON AND AYR DIDN'T.........

    SOOOOOPerb result but gifted to us without having to really play for
    it. The game was probably over in 20 minutes. I don't think we really
    controlled the midfield but the defence,inspired by Paterson was rock
    solid with Ayr never looking like scoring. Another impressive thing
    about the defence was Norman's handling - never mind the score - I
    expected the paper headlines to be "Geddes holds cross shock!!".
    9 out of 10 for the 5 in defence
    8 for the Burn's and Williamson and Mitchell.
    Were Campbell and Jack actually playing??
    
    It's a pity that Killie decided to defend the 3 goal lead in the second
    half (which they did well) but I think if they had gone at the Ayr
    defence we could have seen a barrowload.

    Well another unsatisfactory game at home. We may have picked up the two
    points, but we need to improve on this display.
    
    Match Report:
    
    The game started well for Killie with the ball being moved wide to
    Mitchel on the wing to run at the defense. A number of clear chances
    were created in the first 20 mins, but these were missed by the front 
    two, or the final ball over was misdirected. Meadowbank packed the 
    defense and only hit on the break. With Killie pushing forward with
    the midfield well on top it looked only a matter of time till we
    scored, but as half time approached frustration crept into the play and
    when the teams went in level all Killies work had accomplished was a
    bunch of missed chances from Williamson, Jack, Mitchel. 
    
    The second half started with Meadowbank pushing forward for the first
    time, but could not make anything of there possesion. As Killie then
    started to dominate the game, especially down the right flank with
    Mitchel & MacPherson. With Williamson laying the ball off well in the middle
    and hitting the bar from the edge of the box, the rest of the team 
    continued to miss chance after chance with Jack the main culprit. 
    MacPherson broke into the box, beat two players but waited too long to 
    shoot and it was blocked when it looked easy to score. Meadowbank broke 
    down field sent a ball over to the back post and with an empty net the 
    number 8 shot against the bar when it looked impossible to miss (
    Fleetings next signing ? ). This spurned on Killie and MacPherson again
    dribbled into the box, beat 4 defenders, drew the keeper and hit it
    under his body into the net, a great individual goal but Meadowbank
    must question some of the tackels they missed. Fleeting urged his team
    to attack from the dugout to seal the game up and near the end a great
    one two between Williamson and Burns, lead to Burns chipping the ball
    onto Jack's head about 8ft out with the goalie stranded he managed to 
    hit the only defender on the line on the head with ball. So the game
    ended 1-0 to killie.
    
    Marks out of ten..
    
    Geddes _ not much to do all game, but 5/10 for the one handed catch
             at the back post in the first half. Still needs to improve
             his kick outs.
    
    MacPherson -  9/10 , never missed a chance to attack, scored a great 
                  goal and never looked troubled at the back.
    
    Black -  First 60 mins looked completely lost but as the game went on
    	     he improved. Looked like he could prove to be a good passer
    	     from the back. Overall needs to improve on this display 3/10.
    
    Flexney - faily solid at the back didn't lose much in the air but
              distribution was poor, 6/10.
    
    Patterson - solid in defense and distribution better than Flexney but
                not much better, 6/10.
    
    H Burns - never stoped running all game, competed well, missed a couple
              of chances and made the wrong decison when passing on a few
              occassions. 6/10
    
    T Burns - Ran the middle of the park, missed a couple of half chances,
              passing not up to his high standards. 6/10
    
    Campbell - Ran his heart out, but doesn't cut it in midfield, was
    	       knackered half way through  the second half and should have been
               replaced. 4/10
    
    Mitchel -  Gave Meadowbank defense a terrible time in the first 60
    	       mins. Should have scored a couple of times with good moves. 
               Must learn to pace himself better and improve the % of good
               crosses, but was the best player on the park in the first
    	       hour by a long way. 9/10
    
    Jack    -  Words fail me in describing how BAD he was on Saturday.
               He missed at least 5 easy chances, the final one from
               Burns cross he should have been shot for. 2/10 
    
    Williamson - Getting back to more like his old self. His distribution 
                 is improving and he set up at least 4 easy chances for
                 the other forwards, which they all missed. He lead the
    	         line well and tried to keep the team going.  7/10
    
    
    Changes for next week, drop Jack and put Campbell up front, and
    McSkimming in midfield.
    
    We must improve however to continue this run, undefeated in 12 of the
    last 14 games isn't too bad. But we must start to score with so much of
    the game. Teams better than Meadowbank will punish us for not killing
    them off when we have the chances.

    Why did we buy Tom Black from next years First division newcomers St
    Midden? I thought Mcskimming was playing his best football since his
    arrival at left back. He's too slow and short of ideas to make a decent
    left winger. It may be that Black needs time to settle but he was all
    over the place on Saturday.

    I have to agree Andy,but what the hell has happened to Bobby Williamson
    ?.He was crap yet again on saturday,i also think that we should play
    all our games away from home there is a distinct lack of atmosphere at
    home games,plus the team always seems to play better.

I agree with you Brian, the atmosphere at Rugby Park was terrible on Saturady.
The crowd may be expecting them to play well and when they dont they start to 
get disappointed. What we really need is to score a handfull of goals at home 
and that will get the crowd involved, but just now every home game the 
supporters expect the worse and usually get it.

As for Bobby Williamsons recent form, I feel he is trying too hard. You can see
he gets frustrated as the game goes on when things dont go his way. He is also
playing a bit deeper than last year and I dont think that's working well. The
tatics last year was for him to hold the ball up and then lay it off to TB
to break into the defense. Most of the first division teams have seen us do this 
so they look for the lay off, and we aren't having as much success as last 
season. I would rather see him playing more in the middle of the park futher up
front with Jack ( what empty goal ) or Campbell ( ok so I'm not fit for 90 mins )
playing deeper to knock the high ball on.

    The Record today says that Killie are ready to dump Callaghan,Porteous, 
    Willie Mcstay,Elliot and Mcquilter. Ok Mcstay went off form at the
    start of the season but in the last 15 or so games last year he was
    immaculate. Why get rid off him and keep that big Pudding Sumo? Also I
    think it is time that we got some money for players instead of just
    giving them free transfers all the time.
    

    SUMO IS ON THE LIST AS WELL THE DAILY RECORD HAS GOT IT WRONG.

    SIX PLAYERS HAVE BEEN PUT UP FOR SALE NOT FIVE AS REPORTED IN THE DAILY
    RECORD, THE SIX ARE ELLIOT, CALLAGHAN, McSTAY, McQULITER, PORTEOUS AND
    BURGESS.

The 6 players listed have been put on the transfer market for SALE not free
transfers. 

On the list I agree with most of the transfers except McStay and Porteous.
McStay played well last year but the manager hasn't given him a chance this
year after his poor start when he stayed with Flexney who also had a bad start.
Porteous never really broke into the first team, and from what I heard was 
always good in the reserves. He never looked fully fit though and that may be 
the problem with him.

I have heard that Elloit had a falling out with Fleeting so that's why he is 
going ( but we wont really miss him anyway with the way Mitchel is playing ).

Saturday's game produced a 4 - 2 win for killie, but the afternoon was marred
by those two stupid goals killie let in after being 4 - 0 up and cruising. We 
should have scored more in the second half and we let them back in the game
by careless play at the back. I had to laugh at the Sunday papers when they said 
that the two goals by Ross Jack were well taken especially the one from Burns
shot ( from where i was it looked like he was trying to get out of the way of 
shot not stear it in the other direction ).

Can anyone tell me if there was any comments on the substitution of Williamson
in the second half, did the manager take off the captain to rest him or 
because he had missed that chance at the back post. Fleeting was far more 
patient with Ross Jack when he missed all those chances last week, and it looked
like Bobby Williamson was not too happy with the decision to take him off.

I will miss the game at Morton, but am looking forward to Dundee on Saturday. 
The TV highligths of the Partric 2 Dundee 6 result appeared to flatter Dundee.
So it could be close on Saturday. The next week will show if we have what it 
takes to win the league this year.

    I must agree with you about the players put on the transfer list,i
    think the main reason for Porteous being on it,is that he is unable to
    last the pace for 90mins.As for Williamson i don,t know whether he said
    anything to Fleeting about being subsituted,from my own personal view i
    am a big fan of Williamson but i think he should actually have been
    dropped earlier in the season.I have been very disappointed with his
    form this season and maybe being susituted on saturday was a good thing
    for him.On another point,does anybody know why "Monty" isn,t getting a
    game ? There were rumours going about last week that he had stormed
    away from the ground because he wasn,t included in the 13 for the
    Meadowbank game.Is there any truth in this or is he just injured ?I
    have also heard that there are several teams showing an interest in
    Ally Mitchell,anybody heard anything about it ?

Unfortunately I missed the game with Morton last night. So how about a detailed
match report. 

On the picking of players, I agree why did we pay 70,000 for Black, when on 
the two games I've seen he has been mince. I have never been a great supporter
of Monty since he plays like a headless chicken at times. But at least he
shows some fight. He must be very upset, he should have been on the bench in my
view at least.

On the subject of Bobby Williamson, I think at the start of the season he was 
off form, but in recent weeks he has been creating a lot of chances for Campbell
and Jack, however when he is in position to score he has missed some easy 
chances and at other times the final pass has not been made to him when it 
should have. He needs to be a bit more greedy and try himself a bit more often.
A couple of goals would certainly lift his spirits and with him and Jack on form
coupled to super Ally there would be no stopping us. 

On a plus note however its good to see that Killie supporters are not counting 
the chickens yet or any gloating on teams being unable to score in recent 
weeks. Keep it up and let the team do the talking for us.

    At Home to Dundee tomorrow...and it should be a cracker of a game. They
    have never done particularly well against us at Rugby Park with the
    exception of the B+Q game last year. 
    
    Monty should play in the centre of defence even if Flexney is fit again
    and he'll be guaranteed to boot that little diving git Dodds sensible.
    Maybe a wee bit more ...ahem "grit" could be introduced to the midfield
    to make that diving little git Mk II Mcall feel unwelcome. Trouble is
    that would mean playing Tait !
    
    Up front we should have no worries. If the local yokels can put 4 past
    Dundee's defence then we can.

    I'm not a Tommy Tait fan but yes at the start of the season when he was
    playing in the centre of the defence he was very solid especially
    against Ayr. Since he came back though he has been struggling.  In
    Midfield he is too slow and every move breaks down when it reaches him
    cos his passing is so crap.

Killie 1 Dundee 2.

as usual when the chips are down and we look forward to a game the boys in blue
and white are posted missing. I dont care to re-call that terrible 90 mins again
, but here's my score card...

Geddes - 9.9 ( minus ) ..what a git, is he still being paid by Dundee. He never
                        wins a ball in the air. he cost us two goals. 
			Drop him and sign a decent keeper.

Black -    2/10    Hasn't kicked a ball in the two games I've seen him play.

McPherson  4/10    Played well in parts but poor distribution.

Monty      6/10    Tried hard but was given a right doing by Dundee front men
                   on the ground

Paterson   5/10    gave away too many free kicks

T Burns    5/10    only good in bursts, distribution is getting worse by the 
                   week.

H Burns    5/10    didn't close down their midfield quick enough at times.

Campbell   4/10    totally out of his depth in midfield, never got back to 
                   defend and with Black playing behind him left us no cover 
                   at all. He should have been substituted not Jack

Jack       4/10    No joy upfront, when given chances took too long especially
                   when put through by Williamson in second half.

Williamson  5/10   I know everyone is knocking him this season. But except for
                   super ally he is the only one who looks like he may make a 
 		   goal upfront. He should be more simple in his build up and
                   try to go it alone more often. He tries one to many passes
                   and the ploy of him holding the ball up for a midfielder to 
                   run onto isn't working since nobody is supporting from
                   midfield quick enough.

Mitchell    9/10   The class player in the first half, great goal, took them
                   appart in the first half. Starved for the ball in the second.
                   Only critism is that he needs to improve the consistancy
                   of the final ball and not always keep it to himself all 
                   of the time.
                   
		
Referee     0/10   totally taken in by the diving of the dundee team, did he 
                   come on their bus. We had two good penalties turned down,
                   and Dundee's first goal should have been disallowed since 
                   Geddes was held down on the ground.


All in all a crap weekend, but it's Hamilton on Saturday, so its not too far to
travel

    Geddes pulled off two great saves in the last five minutes otherwise it
    would have been 4-1. The problem is not with him not being a "decent
    keeper" but the tendency he has to panic a bit and really screw up in a
    big way (Saturday, away to Dundee to name a few examples). All the same
    his handling has improved 100% since he came and who are you going to
    replace him with ? some old has-been from Stirling Albion ?
    
    Black should be shown the door now and if Fleeting considers that Jack
    is first choice for No. 10 then Campbell should be dropped and a real
    left midfielder played at No. 11. Every time Dundee attacked down the
    right they had the length of the park to use.
    
    Changes for Hamilton should be McSkimming at left back,TB moving over
    to left midfield,Porteous or Mcstay in the middle and a good kick up
    the arse for Williamson to shake him up a bit.

What you really need in a keeper is someone who installs confidence in his
defence. Geddes does not do this. He is suspect under cross balls, and doesn't
command the six yard box. Geddes pulled off two good saves at the end, but if 
we hadn't lost two stupid goals which he was mostly to blame for we would have
been in control of the game.

As for your suggested changes for saturday I agree with you we need a more 
solid midfield, ( Burns, Mcstay, H Burns ) and McSkimming at full back to 
overlap. This way will leave TB to link up with williamson, something that
doesn't happen  with him playing in the middle.

    Well there,s not much you can say about the Hamilton game,we were up
    2-0 and it looked for about 60 seconds as if we were going to get a
    good win.Then Magnum(Tom Black) decided to make the game more exciting
    and play the ball straight to Goerge McCluskey who rounded the useless
    F**K we had in nets and scored.From then on we were,nt really in the
    game and were lucky to escape with a point and Hamilton had a perfectly
    good goal chopped off which insured we got a point from the game.I
    would like to know why Mr Fleeting persists in playing Campbell in
    midfield he will never be a midfielder in a hundred years.If you are
    going to play with a winger then you have to play somebody big at
    centre to try and get on the end of the crosses,this is about the only
    thing Campbell is good for.As for Magnum,well it looks like another bad
    signing although having Campbell in front of you can,t inspire much
    confidence but i,m afraid Magnum,s confidence has now totally gone.I
    would like to see him dropped and McSkimming replacing him,with TB
    playing on the left side of midfield,Hugh Burns in the centre and
    Mcpherson on the right with Monty at right back.As for the goalie,well
    i,m afraid it,s come back Norman all is forgiven.
    

    Any body at Kircaldy last night ? It sounded like we got out of jail

    A good patient performance against an expectedly over defensive
    Stirling on Saturday. The outstanding point of the game was 'sid'
    Porteous's performance - the man was immense. He didn't waste a single
    pass and calmed things down in the middle when it got a bit ragged
    after the penalty. If he had scored with that 20 yard volley it would
    only have been poetic justice. How Fleeting can consider flogging him
    is beyond me. The only justification is that there may not be a regular
    position for another right sided midfielder with Mitchell and Hugh
    Burns there, but even if Sid was kept as cover he would make a superb
    contribution every time.

Well two more points in the bag after a reasonable performance on Saturday.
Only bad refereeing and poor finishing kept the score down.

The main men for me were Hugh Burns ( best game I've seen him play in a killie
shirt ), Sid Porteous's ( his passing at times was great if only others would
read the game so well, Williamson ( getting back to form and had some nice 
touches and three goals in three games isn't too bad ).

The usual bad performances from Black ( what a waste of money so far, only 
contributed late in the game), Jack ( completely out of touch ), McSkimming
( why was he on the park at all, contributed absolutely nothing ).

The worst on the park must go to the referee though, I could be mistaken but 
from where I was we scored in the first half when the ball was kicked out of the
back of the net. And secondly when he turned down a penalty for handball on 
the goal line. But at least he was consistantly bad and turned down a good claim 
when Watters was impeaded in the second half.

These are the types of games we must win if we are serious in going for 
promotion, unlike previous years we are starting to win them.

By end January Killie and Dundee will be well clear of the chasing pack ( I
hope ).

    From where I was standing the first header was past the line in mid air
    when the goalie grabbed,when he landed on it it still looked behind the
    line. The second header again looked like it was behind the line
    although the defender did chest it not handle it. Also for the Watters
    incident, There was a slight obstruction but I think it would have been
    the softest penalty ever. Maybe if fat Willie had gone down the ref
    might have given it.
    
    What about the roasting Reilly took off the crowd after clobbering
    Flexney. There were guys below me red in the face virtually spitting
    blood at him and he just runs about on the touchline with that daft
    grin on his face - sooperb!

    Must agree Andy,i was delighted to see sid having such a good game and
    like you find it hard to take that a player has good as him as been put
    on the transfer list.The manager had been trying to sign Magnum for 9
    months and so far he has been a complete waste of money,yet he is
    playing every week regardless of how bad he plays it seems that no
    matter how good Porteous plays he is not Guaranteed a regulular game.As
    i have said from the day Mr Fleeting got us relegated he hasn,t a clue
    and if he does sell SID then he should be sacked.

    Kilmarnock have been told to pay 50,000 for Craig Paterson. This is one
    sixth of the original figure Motherwell asked for the player. 
    
     I am 'not exactly a Kilmarnock fan ' but think that this is good for
    Kilmarnock and Scottish football. Hopefully this will stop the likes of 
    the McLean brothers trying to stop players from earning a wage.
    
    Congratulations to Fleeting for the gamble and to the panel for common

Prediction for the New Years day game;  KILLIE 3 AYR 0
scorers for Killie Mitchell & Williamson

The game will be won in the first half with Killie going in 2-0 up. The defense
will put up the shutters and half way through the second half the icing on the
cake with a quick attack with Mitchell scoring. Man of the match will be 
Mitchell who will take the Ayr defense to pieces and even though they put the
boot in he still comes out on top.


Other news

1. The proposed changes to the league setup are discussed in the papers today
   and it appears that Killie, Queen of the South & I think Forfar are against
   the new changes. I can understand why Killie might be against it since it
   would cost them revenue in the Premier league ( lost home games against
   Rangers/Celtic ). For the other teams in the top half of the first division
   they will vote for the changes as it offers them increased income ( since 
   they will never make it into the premier , for example Ayr Utd ) by having
   games against the likes of Falkirk, St Mirren ,and possibly better odds in 
   gaining promotion.

2. Gavin asked for a report on the match against Clydebank. Well I went up the 
   the game but got stuck in Glasgow and missed the first goal and only saw the
   second hit the back of the net so my report is limited.

    Killie totally dominated the match in the first half and should have been
    more than two up at half time. Mitchell especially was on top form up front.
    Killie lost their way in the second half due to slackness in midfield. But
    the defense was very solid. The main talking points were the two penalties
    given, the one for Clydebank was right in front of me and it was never a 
    penalty the attacker fell over his own feet. The referee had a good 
    view and how he gave a penalty I dont know, there was even a doubt if it
    happended inside the box. Killie's penalty was straight forward handball
    from a good cross. Of the two misses Clydebank was the worst, hit weakly 
    to the right but a good yard from the corner, Killies was taken by
    Williamson who hit the ball solidly to the right bottom corner with the 
    keeper guessing and touching it round the post. 
  
    Killies third goal was well worked by Williamson who set up Campbell in the
    clear to lob the goallie. 

    The main players for me were Mitchell , Flexney ( getting better all the
    time ), Black ( best game in a Killie shirt ), Williamson and Hugh Burns. 
    The sinners were Sid ( his passing in the second half was a compelete joke),
    Campbell ( though his goal at the end was a cracker but he spurred so
    many other chances ), Fleeting for not using his subs in the second half. 

    From were I was siting you could here the various comments passed by players
    during the game and I must admit Williamson is pretty scathing in his   
    commnets to the other players, especially McSkimming & Campbell. Though
    I must admit he was generally right about what he saying.  But who tells him
    off ?
     
    All in all however a great team performance against a team who are hard
    to beat at home. But the pies were cold and bovril weak..


3. Reserves:
    
   Can anyone explain why Killie had to play two reserve games on Monday night,
   we had quite a few first team players out and with the busy schedule was this
   wise ?

Well I'm not all that knowledgeable on the new proposals but from what I know...

There will be premier and first division both of 12 clubs, These will play 22
games up to Xmas, there will be s shutdown during January and when the season
restarts the top 8 in the premier league will play off for the championship. The
bottom 4 in the premier and the top 4 in the first divsion will then play 
off for promotion & regulation from the 1st & premier. This will involve each 
club now playing 36 games in a season. International games would be on a 
Saturday if possible and with the shut down the possibility of canceled games
due to bad weather will be reduced.

The proposers of the restructure are Aberdeen and Glasgow Rangers. Their aim
is to have fewer games played, those games played will be more meaningfull
especially after the xmas break where they hope to keep the interest alive. A
more honest view would be that it allows the big clubs to increase their
revenue by playing each other 4 times a year but with a reduction in the number
of games against teams with lower support or crowd pulling appeal.

    Good game on Wednesday, your mob had the more clear cut chances but
    poor finishing let you down. 
    
    Was Mitchell playing?  Oh that's right, our free transfer Garry Agnew
    never gave him a lookin. As for putting the boot in, I seem to remember
    the only Ayr booking was the aforementioned Agnew for having words with
    the BITB. Also, if Tommy Burns had put more effort into playing
    football instead of falling down at every tackle, Killie might have won
    the game. His tackle that led to Furphy's injury was a disgrace. He
    should have been booked at least but as he rolled about like a dying
    man, the ref must have felt sorry for him and let it go.
    
     Anyway, happy new year and may you loose every game from now on

    Unfortunately, honours even was probably a fair result for Ne'erday.
    The wind definitely spoiled the game although I have to say we were the
    team who coped best with it. Hopefully Fleeting was well and truly
    embarrassed by a free transfer totally outshining 70k worth of St.
    Mirren crap. I never really rated Agnew when he was at Killie but he is
    still head and shoulders above Black.
    
    As far as TB's tackle goes it was a 50/50 ball and both players were
    110% committed for it. Furphy only got kicked in the leg but Burns got
    a boot in the face. Unfortunately, he was not injured.
    
    
    We're starting to go the same way as last season around this time with
    certain players not really giving 100% and consequently dropping points
    against the likes of Forfar. I still think Williamson (and Burns) need
    a good kick up the arse to get them motivated again. 
    
    0-0 against Montrose on Tuesday??

I was going to enter my match report from the new year game but after about
35 lines my system crashed and I can't be bothered to enter it again.

As for the result, a 1-1 draw was fair. I dont think we had that much advantage 
over Ayr and the high wind really stopped any decent football being played.
Ayr defended well in the first half, but we should have played the ball on the
ground more. Mitchell was never really in the game with the ball being punted 
into the air so much. Campbell was booked for his second challenge on the keeper
, the first time he did make contact but the second time the keeper took a dive.
Mitchell was also booked for a bad tackle , but it was his first and he had been 
fouled repeatable by agnew and co.

At half time I thought Killie would be up against it in the second half, but 
they played better football into the wind. The opener for Killie was a cracker,
with McSkimming ( I think ) making the run on the rigth and a great cross which 
Campbell knocked in with his knee.  Then Ayr hiot back when a ball wasn't 
cleared in defense and broke out to Agnew at the corner of the box and his
angled drive skidded under Graham's body. I felt the keeper should have done
better but the ball was hit hard and it skidded on the wet surface.

There were no more goals but a couple of chances for Killie, especially the 
header by Paterson or Flexney ( I had alousy view of it ) was net bound till it
hit an Ayr defender on the line.

All in all a fair result on a day that certainly supports a winter shutdown.

I forgot who the ref was but I hope its a long time till he's in charge of any
game. Some of his decisons we terrible, he let bad fouls go unpunished and 
booked players for their first foul ( Mitchell ) while repeat offenders went
free. He also nearly gave a penalty in the second half, I still can't 
understand why since there was no contact or foul commited by McPherson, thank 
god for the linesman.

    I hadn't been to a game in a while so seeing how the weather was
    so nice last night I thought I'd toddle along to Rugby Park to see
    how the boys were getting on for myself.  After 13 minutes I wondered
    why I'd bothered.  After 100% Killie pressure, Montrose roar up
    the park and score on their first attack.
    
    All credit though, Killie stuck to the task and after having the
    most blatant penalty turned down earlier (keeper should have been
    sent off too!) the were awarded a far softer one which Black put
    away well.  Some magic by Mitchell on the right (he won't be there 
    another year) produced a cross for Campbell to tap in with his head.
    Jack scrambled a 3rd (his 100th senior goal) just before half time.
    
    Montrose came back into it a bit at the start of the second half
    but never looked dangerous and they were finally killed off by a
    SUPERB own goal.  A bullet header from about 10 yards from a Mitchell
    cross.  The last was a Jack lay back for Campbell to side foot home.
    
    Killie could have had a few more but I think the condition of the
    pitch took it's toll on the fitness.  It's hard to judge how well
    they played as I thought Montrose were dreadful, but having said
    that a 5-1 win is a 5-1 win!

    Even though it was only Montrose,it was good to see the team working
    well together at long last! I saw very few passes going astray and
    thought that they all combined to create a solid performance. Reilly
    and Mitchell were,I thought,outstanding. I fear for Geddes when he is
    tested with any high balls into the box - it appears he has lost
    confidence in  himself.      
    Another 2 points and a few goals on to our tally can't be too
    bad,though I thought the Montrose goalie stopped us from increasing the  
    score by at least another 4 with some tremendous saves!
    The Campbell incident was definately a bookable offence and a definate
    spot kick,but the man in black seemed to bow to the pressure an gave us
    a penalty when Williamson showed Campbell exactly how to get a penalty
    by tripping over a defender who was at least 5 feet away and had no
    intention of tackling him. (just rewards I say)
    
    Another performance like this on sat will do fine!

    been able to draw with so far, but let's not get carried away - it was
    only Montrose after all. Saturday will be a much harder test but I
    think we should pull through especially if Graham is back and Norman
    Bates is sent back to the reserves.

    Good performance last night,but i won,t get carried away the next 5
    games are going to make or break us.Hopefully on saturday Norman will
    be replaced by Graham and i would play Jack instead of Williamson.As
    for Magnum he seems to be okay going forward but i have my doubts about
    his defensive ability,again last night the Montrose goal came from the
    right hand side of the park the schoolboy had quite a good game but i
    would rather see Hugh Burns on from the start.Anyway roll on
    saturday,it was also good to see Ayr doing us a favour last night.

Well a good result after a bad start. 

The Montrose opener was a good goal made by a superb cross from their Dutch
import. However I have to question the coverage given by the Killie defense, 
especially Black who was suppose to be marking the winger ( by being 20 yards 
away ).

The Campbell booking was dreadful, from were I was sitting the keeper pulled
Campbell down in the act of scoring. How obvious does it have to be since 
Campbell was about 3yards from the goal line and directly infront when the 
keeper pulled him down. I believe Campbell was booked for taking a dive by the 
referee. The penalty he gave was awfull, the defender put his hand on
Williamson's back, with hardly any contact, Williamson fell down like he had 
been shot and got a penalty for it. 

With Williamson going off injured ( his own fault ) and Jack on instead some
of the passing game disappeared upfront but we then played the ball over the
defense instead and got good results.

All in all a good win and it could easily have been 8 or 9-1 in the end, but
we missed a few chances and the keeper played well.

The usual points for killie :

Geddes 3    	in his defense I believe that he was under orders to punch
                not catch the ball but still a poor display and he's lost
                his confidence in the air.

Black 5    	only started to play after they scored , he was posted 
                missing covering their number 11.

McPherson  6    solid at the back but a bit slow to support the attack at times.
                After Killie scored the 5th Fleeting gutted him for not 
                pushing up fast enough.

Flexney   7    	hardly put a foot wrong except in covering their goal bur
                pushed up well and didn't punt the ball too often

Paterson  8     solid the whole game, different class at the back.

T Burns   9     back to his old self and worked his butt off unlucky not to
                score with the drive off the bar in the second half.

Porteous  6     worked well in midfield but some of his passing was erratic.

Williamson 7    worked hard upfront, set up the penalty that wasn't given, and
		got one that shouldn't have been given.

Campbell   8    scored two good goals, worked well and unlucky not to get his
		hatrick.
     
Mitchell   7    Made the second goal with a great cross to Campbell. 
                The conditions didn't suit him but caused the defense 
                trouble everytime he got the ball.

Riley     9     My man of the match, never stopped working both in defense
                and in attack. He should certainly play on Saturday from the
                start. Good tatic by Fleeting to use him as a defender when we 
            	attack at free kicks etc.

Jack     7      Good to see him get his 100 th goal, from all of 1 yard but he
                showed determination to get it over the line.

H Burns  7      My kind of player, never stops trying and only thinks of 
		attacking           
  

Referee  -99999 worst display of the season so far.

    I agree with all that's been said about the first penalty claim.
    I think the referee realised almost straight away he had made a
    mistake so decided to make up for it later!

    Well, has anybody got any predictions for tomorrow's game? Killie have
    got themselves into a good position for the next few games which will
    be the ones which decide whether they will go up or not. They should
    already know that they are good enough (compared to the rest of the
    dross in Div. 1) but they have to prove it by scoring goals and winning
    games. 
    
    After Morton we play all the top four teams : Hamilton and Raith at
    home Dundee and Partick away. I think that even 4 or 5 points from
    these games would give us the confidence required to go up.

    Well what an absolutely disgracefull performance,we got totally gubbed
    by a team who wanted to win the match alot more than we did.In fact i
    thought Morton deserved to win by about 3 goals,for a team supposedly
    going for promotion we showed a total lack of commitment for 90
    mins.Yet again the goal came from the right hand side of the park,and
    as always Magnum was posted missing.On this display we can forget about
    promotion,the next 4 games are going to be hard enough,but they will be
    even harder unless certain players start to show a bit of fight and
    commitment.Hopefully Hugh Burns will play from the start against
    Hamilton,mind you Knowing Mr Fleeting he will be on the bench again.

    Let down again. Killie seemed to think that after going second top that
    was the job done and they only need to turn up from now until the end
    to go up. They were outclassed in every department except goalkeeping
    and if it wasn't for Graham it would have been 5-0. It wouldn't have been
    so bad if Killie had been beaten after putting some effort in but they
    got out exactly what they put in - sweet F*!! all.
    
    The majority of the blame lies with T.Burns and Porteous. Others played
    worse but it is up to these two to create something and they both
    disappeared for long periods of time. Hugh Burns put some enthusiasm in
    but his final pass was shocking.
    
    Graham was superb,McPherson had an off day,Black had one of his better
    games I thought until he was "marking" Mathie who was 25 yards away.
    Flexney was ok,Paterson was s*%!te and looked extremely nervous, TB was
    lazy until the last 10,Mitchell got no service on the deck and when he
    did found it hard to get going,Porteous disappeared,Jack (this F*$!wit
    has used up all his second chances - Montgomerie should have played up
    front!) Campbell got no change in the air and was over elaborate on the
    ground. Reilly was just P*!$ again.

The worst performance of the season ( so far ! ).

The two previous notes give a flavour how bad it was. More 
than half the team looked knackered before the kick off, 
Rilley looked like he had played 90 mins the first touch he 
got ( or should I say missed ). Porteous spent the game  
chasing his own arse around the center circle. Only three 
players got pass marks, Graham Flexney and TB. I know 
some feel that he played crap but he got pass marks for at 
least trying. The rest of the team were total crap. The major 
sinners were , Black ( give him a free transfer ) in the last two 
home games he  has been posted missing and they have 
scored against us. On Saturday he marked  Mathie by being 
at least 40 yards away. Rilley shouldn't have bothered to get  
changed and didn't look fit. Jack did absolutly nothing up 
front and will wait  a long time for his 101 goal on this 
display. Campbell won nothing in the air against a superb 
defense by Morton and when given the chance five mins to 
go  by a shoking back pass managed with on a defender on 
the line to pass the ball to the a Morton defender when all he 
had to do was shoot for the middle of the goal. Porteous 
couldn't pass water much less a ball. Mitchell was given  the 
ball to late to do anything, we must play the ball early to use 
his pace on the wing with only one defender marking him. As 
it was he always had 2 - 3  marking that side of the park.

As for Fleeting, great team selection, we are playing at home 
and we have  two defenders on the bench.

I dont feel that it would have made much difference but 
without Williamson  upfront to hold the ball we seem only 
able to punt the ball up in the air.  He may have his critics but 
at least Bobby usually gives 100% unlike some on Saturday 
who thought they only had to turn up and Morton would roll 
over and die like Montrose.

There has to be changes for saturday's game

The reason for Elliot as a sub he has been scoring goals in the 
reserves and deserves a second chance before we transfer 
him.

McSkimming gets the shout so we can have some width on 
the left, thus pulling  the defense hopefully giving Mitchell 
more space. We were too one sided on  Saturday.

On the transfer front the Sunday Mail has Fleeting saying 
that two English  teams one being Middlesbourgh are chasing 
Mitchel. With the Sunday Mails usual accuracy they have it 
that Killie paid 175,000 for Mitchell and would  want a lot 
more if he was to go( my guess is 350,000 and its good bye.  
If he goes then so should Fleeting and the real manager 
McSherry along with him.

Did anyone catch the scottish cup game on the TV on Tuesday night, from what I
saw it was good to see Gordon Wylde get the man of the match award. He wore
the 10 shirt but played sweeper and certainly played his part in the victory.

I always liked Gordon at Killie, unfortunately the no good thistle bast***
ruined his chance to stay on at killie. The son of bitch should have been shot 
for that tackle at firhill.

    I was reading an article in the local irvine paper about Bobby
    Fleeting,in the article he was saying that about 2 Million Pound would
    be made available to spend on players if we reach the Premier League
    this season.I was wondering what thoughts you would have on giving Jim
    Fleeting 2 Million Pounds to spend on new players,i know i certainly
    wouidn,t let him loose with any more than a fiver.

    It absolutely roars volumes for Fleetings player spotting ability and
    his coaching ability. I saw Agnew in 3 first team and 1 or 2 reserve
    games last season and although he was a good defender he lacked
    confidence and his distribution was worse than Spence's (impossible but
    true). However, he was young and showed signs of improving with every
    game so the Fleeting solution was .... drop him immediateley and give
    him a free transfer.

    Talking of Irvine Meadow Kev,they currently have 3 ex Killie players in
    their team Curren,Davidson and Faulds so there is every chance that
    Mitchell could end up there in the near future.On the Gary Agnew front
    well i,m quite sure Ayr will make a handsome profit from him,because as
    you know Kev there,s always change at Agnew,s.

Another dreadfull weakend with Killie suffering their second home defeat in a 
row. The commitment level was far higher than against morton but we self
distructed yet again. The problem we have is that we can't score goals even when
we have teams on the ropes. In the first half we missed enough chances to win a
handfull of games and should have gone in well on top. Hamilton are not a good
team, they aren't good defenders, their keeper is worse than Geddes and they
only hit on the break. They only had one attempt to score in the first half
and we missed chance after chance. I thought that of the front players 
Williamson stood out, he worked hard set people up, got into position to score (
missed one chance when he chip over the keepers body and the ball curled just 
accross the face of the goal ). The rest of them should have been shot. 
McSkimming was a gready wee Bas**** and at least twice with unmarked players in
the box tried to shoot instead of crossing. Campbell did absolutely nothing
and when given the chance farted around and passed the buck. Mitchell never 
tried to get into the game, he needs to give himself a kick up the arse and
show some fight, he never starts his run until he has the ball at his feet.

When in one of their rare attacks we gave away a needless corner we left their
# 9 completely free. I dont blame Graham since the guy was only 10feet away when
he headed it in. The second goal was just as bad with tait completely missking,
but from where I was the  #9 used a hand to push the ball infront of him before 
got into the box.

Fleeting is reported as blaming the forwards for the defeat, but if we hadn't 
self distructed at the back it would have been a draw. Now we are falling 
behind in the league with two hard away games ( dundee partick ) to come next
after the cup. We badly need a new striker to support Williamson, if we get one
then we still have a chance otherwise its not looking good.

    As mentioned in the previous note Fleeting blamed the forwards for

    stand on saturday  apparently told Bobby Fleeting that his brother
    hadn,t a clue and that it was time he sacked him,on saying this he was
    promptly escorted from the ground and told not to come back,in other
    words pay up and shut up.

    Well it is Firhill for thrills on Saturday will we manage to beat a
    team above us in the league, when was the last time we beat Partick
    Thistle at Firhill, I think we will struggle to get a draw.
    
    
	
    

    You hit the nail in the head when you said will we actually beat a team
    above us in the league,it is the same old story when it comes to the
    crunch games we seem to bottle it.I don,t know what anybody else thinks
    but in my opinion we are not physical enough to beat the better teams
    in the league we are badly needing a hard physical player in the
    team.Mind you when it comes to playing Partick it doesn,t matter how
    well we play against them we always get beat,so there is a very good
    chance that they could end our promotion chances on saturday.With a new
    man taking over at Dundee i think the battle will now be for the
    runners up spot i can,t see Ian Munro at Dundee spending the new
    chairmans money as badly as Jim as at Killie.

    Well bang goes our promotion chances,Partick made it 6 points out of
    6 against us and no doubt Dundee will do the same next week.With form
    like that you can,t exspect to be promoted,yet again we shot ourselves
    on the foot missed chances and bad defending cost ue dearly yet again.I
    didn,t think we deserved to lose but unfortunately our forwards let us
    down again,for the first hour of the match we were the better team and
    Partick didn,t look like much of a threat.The new signing(Ray
    Stephen)was obviously not fit,and he made Gordon Rae look like Karen
    Carpenter he was taken off to be replaced by that Donkey McSkimming.He
    didnt really contribute much,although he was very good at clapping and
    he did this continually,even after he was substituted he sat on the
    bench and clapped.I must say though that Magnum,s goal was worth the
    admission money,it,s just a pity we then went and threw the game away
    about 60 seconds after he had scored it.Surely the time has now come
    for Bob Fleeting to sack his brother we have spent more money than all
    the other teams in the league put together yet we are not good enough
    to be promoted.

    Well here we are again out the cup, Killie have not won a replay
    at Rugby Park since 1978 when they defeated Celtic, since then we have
    lost to mighty oposition such as Stranraer, Q.O.S and last night to
    the mighty men from the capital Meadowbank Thistle. Where do we go from
    here our manager has spent more money than the rest of First Division
    put together and we still cannot beat part time opposition at our own
    ground. Last night Meadowbank were more orginised and looked a far
    better side than Killie for most of the game.  We wre given a break
    when the referee allowed our goal to stand when Hugh Burns looked well
    offside when he scored. Anyway Bobby Fleeting says if we do not win
    promotion this season there is always next season. We will just have to
    wait and see roll season 1992-93.

    no doubt I will be hereing  form you in the very near future. 

    Having now blamed just about every player for various defeats and also
    having had a go at the support for not giving them enough backing at
    home games,Mr Fleeting has at last came up with the answer to all our
    problems.Apparently there is a jinx on us at every home game and that
    is the reason why we are getting beat at home so often,yet again he
    refuses to take any responsibility for our season being over already.I
    for one will not be back at a home game until the jinx is removed,in
    other words until Fleeting is sacked.So in response to note .113 well
    you can look forward to my reports from Blair Park,Hurlford in the near
    future,as for the Ayrshire cup well we didn,t want to win it anyway,so

    Back to Killie business, the Glasgow Herald ran a story today saying
    that Fleeting was thinking of resigning (don't think too long now,Jim)
    but the best bit was the reporters comments that this would come as a
    shock to many Ayrshire supporters !!

    It has to be TB taking over. I don't think he is 100% ready for it but
    there is no point in keeping him in the shadow of someone else for x
    no. of years. It is ironic that one of the things that brought Tb to
    Killie was to learn management ... well after three years understudy to
    fleeting at least he should know what not to do.

Well Saturday's game was off yet again due to waterlogged pitch. I can't 
remember a season when we had to cancel two games because of rain. Since I live
next to the hallowed turf, I was surprised, the grounds around the park were OK
but there was certainly not much activity  Friday & Saturady to fork the pitch
to get rid of the surface water. It makes you think that it could be a ploy
by the management to allow the game to be put off so that a couple of players,
Paterson & Williamson, could get fit for this crunch game..

Looking forward to Wednesday's game nothing but full points will do, with a
repeat on Saturday against Forfar at home. We certainly can't afford to slip up
now so as Fleeting said the players have to stand up and be counted. By some
performances lately a few could just stand up for an improvement. I dont
expect much change to the team unless Williamson and Paterson are fit, certainly
on what I saw from Ray Stewart against Aberdeen reserves he isn't fit enough 
for the first team yet. So it will be Campbell & Williamson upfront with
Mitchell on the wing, usual midfield, Monty taking over at full back with that
plonker Black suspended. 

Prediction 2 - 0 for Killie

    together as a unit again instead of bringing in more and more obscure

    Killie won 1-0 thanks to a well worked goal by Gus McPherson. It was a
    struggle up to Fleeting brought on Porteous for Williamson with 30
    mins., to go. Porteous made a big difference. Geddes ,Tait, MOntgomery
    all did exceptionally well Williamson blasted one over from two yards,
    the Raith keeper had a brilliant save from a deflected Tommy Burns
    shot.  Hugh Burns headed one of the line in the last minute.

    Sal Stevie turned down a swop deal to Clydebank last Friday it was him
    for Pat Kelly.  Earlier on that week Burley offered him a free but he
    refused it because his contract does not expire until June. He has also
    spoken to Stranraer and Q.O.S. are interested as well, I have not
    spoken to him since last Saturday so I do not no what has happened
    since then. Stevie is only interested in part time football has he has
    buissnes commitments as well as football.

    Tomorrow Killie face Forfar, on paper we should win this one
    comfortably, but we are so inconsistent anything could happen. I do not
    think there will be many changes from the midweeks selections, predict
    a 3-0 win for Killie.

    Hello Sal I have been of work for the past week so I have a bit of
    catching up to do. I did not go to the Sheffeild United game simply
    because I knew it would either be postponed or abandoned after it got
    started. The pitch is an absolute disgrace you have never seen anything
    like it, they should contact the four teams they have to play at Rugby
    Park and play these games away from home after all we are not going
    anywhere this season, it is just a pity our board could not be ambitous
    about the football aspect of the club because if they were they would
    sack that 	p___k that is the groundsman and the the manager, but
    football is the last thing on the boards mind. Of the park we have a
    lovely restaurant a good weekly raffle, who cares what goes on between
    3pm and 0440pm on Saturday nobody bar the suporters. 
    
    
    

    
    

I was away on business and missed friday's game, so I can't talk about the
state of the pitch on that day. But as for the last couple of months I have
never seen Rugby Park look so bad. It appears that the groundsman has a
contract with Irvine beach to relocate some of the sand dunes. The center
of the park is covered in sand and when it rains it must be like playing in 
glue.

I thought that we had good drainage on the pitch and can hardly remember a 
game when it was postponed for waterlogged pitch in the last 15 years I've been
going to games. Since I live next to the park and my garden isn't flooded I 
should ask Fleeting for a job ( well the wages might be better than Dec's since
he's throws money away on nobody's anyway ), I certainly couldn't make a worst 
job than the present groundsman. 

As far as playing out the rest of the season, I'm reserving judgement until
4:45 on saturday. If we get 4 points from tonight and Saturday then things might
change, but in all honesty our team is just not good enough to gain promotion
or survive in the premier league. I predict Dundee & Partick will make it up,
with Killie finishing about 4 points off the pace in 4th spot. We badly need
a decent striker for next year as well as a replacement for TB in midfield. 
Bobby Williamson has struggled since November with injury and really shouldn't
be playing at all, since all its done is completely distroy his confidence in
front of goal. With all the strikers we gave away this year we have struggled
when we get injury's to the front men. Fleeting must take the blame for this and
should get his marching orders. The players he has dropped/let go have all 
scored for other teams but what we have left couldn't score in a month of 
Sunday's.

    Well it looks as of we should play with 10 men every week,i thought we
    played some good stuff after shug was sent off.It was great to see the
    team playing with some fight for a change and we got the win that we
    deserved.I thought big Calum had a great game as did the majority of
    the team even jack put himself about a bit.If we play with the same
    commitment on saturday then i have no fears about the game and
    hopefully it should be another 2 points in the bag.We will however miss
    shug in midfield,on the sending off incident well i thought the ref,s
    decision was a disgrace.

    stake for Killie on saturday if we win then it keeps the promotion
    challenge going and there is the extra incentive for Ayr in that a
    victory over us will virtually kill us off in the promotion race,unless

    exspect a big Killie turnout with us making up more than half of the

    league all be it we have games in hand, about I wonder who Jim Fleeting

        Was at Greenock last night ,and as I thought from Saturdays
    performance we have big problems in midfield, the boss has went for a
    4-3-3 system which is leaving us a bit short in of meat in midfield,
    thats why Im so happy that H Burns wont be playing as he makes the
    bullets for TB..
       On the plus side the defence looks not to bad and the strikers have
    pushed their work rate up a bit , with big Ally playing his best stuff
    since signing .
       We are not a great side , so we need everyone to pull together,if 
    that happens and we have workers in the mid field like George,McLean
    and Kenedey who can stop TB and wee Mitcheal then we have a chance..
      It will be decided in the middle of the park....But Partick apart
    Killie is the only team in the league we have yet to beat,so being a
    believer in the law of averages i.e Morton last night. so with that in
    mind Ill change my prediction to 2-1 Ayr......fingers crossed..

    I most probably will be there but I do not hold out must hope, our last
    three games we struggled to beat Meadowbank, Forfar and Raith, when you
    spend 1 million pounds Sal you should be wipeing the floor with teams
    like that, I think the players have the ability but the coaching and
    tatics have a lot to be desired. I still go for a draw at best.

          there is reason why you can't do the same in The Horseshoe.
    
          As Sal said - the last time the game was at Somerset there
          were as many Killie fans in the pub as Ayr fans. The banter
          was great.
    
          It would also be a nice change to hear some realistic predictions
          rather than having to listen to Danny and Sal telling me how easy

    The promotion (ho ho ho) bandwagon keeps rolling!! Although we won I
    have to say that we were under P for a long period in the second half
    and if Ayr had got a goal at that stage I don't think we would have
    come back. For a team that had to win we were second to every ball in
    the second half with the only grit being shown by Monty (as usual) and
    TB (surprisingly).
    
    Good to see Dobbin getting booked but it was long overdue when it
    came...the big donkey pushed and elbowed Paterson all game. The really
    disappointing thing was that Paterson played like a big fairy and just
    took the abuse and never gave any back.
    
    
    Did Mitchell hit the post or the side netting in the last minute after
    he rounded Purdie??

Happy days are here again.......

From what I know Mitchel rounded the keeper, and then hit the side netting.
I hope this week Fleeting gives all the players some practice on how you shoot
after rounding the keeper. In the last two games, Black rounded the keeper and 
then ran along the 6yrd line & missed, and on Saturady Mitchell rounded the 
keeper and missed. They should both take a leaf out of Tommy Tait's book and
just wack the ball in.

A good performance from the Boys in blue in the second half after a poor
first half. Top Marks to Monty, Burns ( 2nd half ), Black & McPherson. 

All I need know is to convince the wife to let me go to Greenock tonight.

    lose to Morton tonight and then Stirling on saturday,because if that is
    the case then it really would be a BAD WEEK.

As the season continues towards its climax, the depth of squad at Killie
is being called into play. The Killie Std has it that Flexney and Jenkins
both came through a full 90mins reserve game this week and on Wednesday played
a practice match againts St Johnstone. The aim being to get Flexney fit for
Saturday's game. Unfortunately the other news was that Bobby Williamson broke
down again in the same reserve game ( which we lost 2 - 1 ) so it looks like he 
wont be back by Saturday.

The return of Flexney will cause a problem for Fleeting , will he drop Monty
after the solid performances he has put in while playing in the center of
the defense , except for the number of bookings he has collected. Hugh Burns
will be missing ( 1 match suspension ) so Monty could line up in the middle
of the park with Burns and Tait with Sid on the bench. 

Up front it will have to be Mitchell, Campbell and Jack. Without Williamson 
we are a bit lacking in firepower. Bobby may have been off the boil in the
couple of months prior to his injury forcing him out. But I think that for
most of Dec & Jan he was playing half fit anyway so a rested and fit B W would
certainly enhance our promotion prospects with some tough games coming up.

    Tomorrow we head for Stirling and two points is a must, Albion will

    supensions, they will all be trying very hard to show Fleeting and

    Yes I do think the party is over, if only we could play Ayr every week
    we might just havve made this season.

    We had our chances on saturday but yet again the need for a good
    striker was in evidence,campbell tried hard but again had no support up
    front,jack as usual didn,t look interested and when Williamson came on
    he played as he has done all season.The goal we lost took a deflection
    and gave geddes very little chance but as so many games this season we
    failed to take our chances and it looks as if the party may well be
    over if not over then it is certainly at the slow dance section.We now
    have to win every game and hope that a few results go our way.

    Well it looks like since I'm first to write about the Killie - Thistle
    game it will be me who gets into trouble from the moderator over bad
    language, but I'll try and control myself...
    
    Never through a season of terrible refereeing decisions have I been 
    so pissed off with the crap they call a Ref at the game on Saturday.
    The game was turned on one dreadful decision. With the game balanced
    at 2-1 for the jags, Killie were pilling on the pressure looking for 
    the equalizer which may have given them an outside chance of getting
    something from a game which looked lost at half time. A break away
    down the thistle right wing caught one of the forwards a couple of
    yards offside. The linesman immediately put the flag up and
    the defenders ( Patterson , Monty ) stopped. Then for no apparent 
    reason put it down again. The thistle striker cut in from the sideline
    and passed to another player who again was standing offside to tap in 
    at the back post. The game erupted, 2 Killie players booked, the
    linesman accosted by coins/pies and verbally from the terraces and 
    field alike. I was standing right behind the linesman not 6 feet away. 
    He gave offside but the Ref waved play on, I believe for the player not
    interfering with play. The linesman then put his flag down and play
    continued, with the offside player in possession of the ball in the
    clear. He missed the scorer being offside by arguing with the Killie
    defence. 

    To put the record straight, firstly the player was offside
    there is no question about that, secondly he was interfering with play
    while he was offside, since that's when he received the ball. The blame
    not only rides with the linesman but also the Ref, he overruled the
    linesman, when the action took place within 10 ft of linesman who had a
    perfect view. But after the goal he talked to the linesman and after some
    discussion gave the goal.
    
    The action of the Ref throughout the whole game was crap. He missed
    that git Duffy kick his way around the park. He gave us one penalty,
    even he couldn't miss that one, with Burns pulled down from behind Rugby
    style when about to shoot. No booking ? He missed the blatant handball
    in the box in the second half before Jags scored the 3rd.
    
    Killie's season is over with only the Ayrshire cup to look forward to.
    We were never good enough to go up, but neither are thistle or dundee.
    The bad start to the season and lack of firepower cost us dear. The points
    we lost through the inability to convert domination into goals has cost us
    promotion. On the whole its been a season of what might have been, missed
    chances, hitting the woodwork at least twice a game etc. But that's no
    excuse, we have the best support outside the premier league ( top 6 ),
    with great potential given a wining team. But bad investment, poor tactics,
    lack of fight by some players, poor mgmt decisions in releasing proven
    strikers means we're doomed to another season in th first division.  
    Next year will be make or bust for Killie under the Fleetings. Some
    players have to go and a team that will fight ever game must be built.
    We have the makings of a good team, a playmaker in midfield and another
    striker could make a big difference next year.

    got what it takes when it comes to a physical game we are like boys
    against men.You can say whet you like about Duffy and Rae but they
    still know how to play the game and they take no prisoners the current
    Killie team is crying out for a couple of players like them,Patterson
    for his size is very half hearted in the tackle.At the end of the day
    bad manegement not enough effort and lack of a consistent goalscorer
    means another year in the 1st division,it is now time for fleeting to
    resign and give someone else a chance.As for the refereeing decision on
    saturday all i will say is that if it had happened at ibrox or parkhead
    there would have been a riot.

    The writer of note .167 said that next season would be the make
    or break season however considering the amount of money invested
    this season on players,surely maybe this season might have been
    the make or break season especially if you take into account the
    ages of several buys who were bought as a short term investment
    to try ensure a quick step up to the Premier and then hopefully
    build from that,also on the point of Dundee and Partick not being
    good enough for the Premier,I think I can remember the same being
    said about Airdrie and Falkirk who are just about guaranteed another
    season in the Premier.Undoubtedly the hardest thing is to get out
    of the First Division and then buy what you can to stay remain there.
    Without sounding disrespectful to Kilmarnock,they have already
    put a lot of money out and still no step up so I honestly believe
    that this was the make or break season for them and finally I totally
    agree that over the past few seasons Killie's support has swelled
    to become the biggest outwith the top six in the Premier but will
    it keep growing if Killie remain in the 1st Division for another

     Not having seen the incident on Saturday that upset the Killie fans, I
    can't comment on it. However, I think the standard of refs in this
    country has declined in recent years, causing a lot of controversy at
    games throughout the country.
    
     I would also say that Partick Thistle seem to get more dodgy decisions
    given in their favour than against. The 2 games at Somerset this season
    were perfect examples. Ayr dominated both games but lost on both
    occassions partly due to very bad referreing. Duffy and Rae at the
    centre of Thistle's defence are 2 very experienced pro's who know how
    much they can get away with and generally con the ref into a lot of bad
    decisions.
    
     Anyway, we'll see you lot again next season, hopefully you'll still
    have the same numpty as manager and maybe we'll get a couple of
    victories over you.

Ahem....I would have thought that those who go up are exactly the ones who proved
themselves good enough to go up, over a long hard season. Staying up is next
season's problem. Whether Dundee and Thistle are the two, remains to be seen, but
the fact is that 'points make prizes'. With Dundee now 5 points ahead of Hamilton
with 5 games to play, I think they have a very good chance of Premier League problems
come the Autumn :^)...

    At last Fleeting has done the right thing and resigned,it has come in
    my opinion about 3 years to late if he had done this even before the
    start of the season then i beleive we might well have been sitting
    at the top of the first division with promotion in our sights.It is now
    time to get an exsperienced manager and i beleive that a Billy
    McNeil,Tommy Burns partnership would work well that is providing the
    current board have enough money to pay Mcneil,according to reports the
    Fleetings have no money left.If these reports are true and Bobby
    Fleeting also goes,where would that leave the club?

          According to ceefax and the news Fleeting has resigned and was
    not sacked it was widely rumoured at the start of the season that he
    would resign if we did not get promotion this season,that rumour now
    seems to have came true.As for big brother Bob running out of cash,well
    this has been said for the past few months.I think this could very well
    be true considering that his little brother has spent almost 1 million
    pounds on alot of very bad players and acheived absoloutely nothing in
    the process,no doubt all will be reveiled about the Fleetings in the
    near future.

    Jim F. has apparently been offered a job within the business side of
    Killie by Bob F. The poison dwarf has gone as well and TB is the caretaker
    manager.
    
    Good. To Fleeting's credit he didn't hang on to the job until he was
    kicked. He gave himself the job of getting Killie to the Premier League
    and when he failed he resigned...fair enough.
    
    I can't help thinking about what might have been with a decent manager
    at the helm. Fleetings faults and mistakes were there for all to see.
    Perhaps having too much money actually worked against him in a way.
    Over inflated prices were paid for players who were only stop gaps e.g
    Burgess. Also he let the wrong players go at the wrong time...Watters
    for example.

             Sad to here about big Jim's demise,Idon't think he had a very
    easy time of it up the A77 with you lot ,lets not forget Eddie Morrison
    "who" spent 100K on a player who is now with the Glens only 3 years on.
             And was it Clunie who spent a then club record of 60K on Murdo
    McLeod's wee brother ,who also went all the way down the ladder in gig
    time. Okay so Jim had his bad deals ,but so to did Billy McBungo who
    you seem to fancy as a replacement ie Hewit ,Hayes , McCahil and
    Galloway.
           Is there any clue as to who will be the new boss,I have been
    told from a very good source that Burns has the job, but names like
    Munro,Smith and possibly GB have all been banded about.
           I think the best choice would be Munro, who was doing a very
    good job with Dundee (5points clear).He has a knowlege of the 1st
    div and has a lot of contacts in the premier for players..

    Villa was it? ) but he didn't make any headlines anyway.
    
    Munro...A very possible. He seemed to be doing alright for Dundee but
    then again look what happened to Dunfermline after Leishman went. (I
    think things may have gone that way anyway).
    
    Smith...Would be good if we could get him.
    
    Burrrrrley...Do me a favour. I've heard a lot of crap about how if he
    had the money Fleeting had etc. etc. I've seen Ayr plenty since he came
    and I prefer to watch football played up and down the park not sideways
    across the halfway line. Besides Kilmarnock have never been able to
    play the offside game.

           What about Jimmy Nichol, he has done a great job at Raith with
    very little support or resourses..
           John Brogan at Stiling is another that done well with very
    little , but I think the Killie job might be to big for him.
          Burley has taken us to a cup final and another 1/4 final he has
    also moved the team from relegation to mid table and changed about 20
    players in the process all fo about 30K..Thats the sign of a
    outstanding manager......

    Choosing a new manager is the biggest decision Kilmarnock will make
    in the next few years.  I think they need to be MORE adventurous
    and ambitious in this task than they have "tried" to be with players
    over the last season or two.
    
    They should think longer term and perhaps even try to poach a manager
    who is in work at the moment.  Alex Miller for example.  I for one
    am fed up with a lot of big talk then the appoint an average 1st/2nd

I agree with Gavin, if we go for a succesfull 1st division mgr then all we will
get is ome one who is not used to spending money on players ( like fleeting ) who
goes crazy and buys crap. Fleeting hardly made a good signing. He will say he 
built a team to get us out of div 2 and thats fair enough but the investments he
made, except for Burns, Mitchell, H Burns, Williamson and at a stretch Campbell,
have been a complete waste of money. The other disappontment was players who
did the job been given away and score regularly in other teams, Watters, and 
Trevor Smith for example.

So we dont want another inexperienced manger, I'd go for Smith with TB as 
assistant mgr. Give them a two year contract and 500,00 budget to spend and buy two
good players, like Dundee did. You can get good players for little transfer
cost under freedom of contract so a good sign on fee and result based wages 
will get players to get us up in the Premier.

    Well gents at long last the truth is out about the two Jims, they did
    not resign they were sacked at a board meeting on Monday morning 6th
    April. I understand there is a power struggle going on between Bob
    Fleeting against Jim Moffat and John Paton so the crap that Sir Bob
    came out with in the national press is crap. I wonder if Sir Bob could
    be next to go rumours arer absolutely rife about is financial future
    but these rumours have been going on since he took over the club.
    At the end of the day the two Jims were an absolute disgrace to
    Kilmarnock F.C. I wonder if we will ever recover from them.

    Well Sal the sensational news I spoke about in a previous note some
    weeks ago is just about all unfolded, this Gillespie thing seems to be a
    fairly accurate report at the moment, wether Sir Bob stays or goes
    nobody seems to be able to shed any light on it at all, but I stress
    there is strong rumours about the Fleeting Enterprises is crumbling so
    we will just have to wait and see, if you are or were a Killie fan who
    would you want as your new manager and what is your opinion on the
    board developments. Remember the Fleetings have supposedly had money
    problems of the park since they took over at Rugby Park but they seem
    to be hanging on in there.

    Bob McGinn who follows Killie was telling me that he phoned the
    Clubcall on Monday and Bob Fleeting was on it saying that he would
    not be stepping down and he would still remain the top man.He says
    that he has too many things on the go for Killie and had no intention
    of leaving.It will be very interesting to see what will happen if
    the Gillespie story is true.I personally think that it sounds that
    Bob Fleeting will move on,however what do I know I follow the club
    that turns away millionaires!!

    Sal will you make it for the Ayrshire Cup Final on Wednesday, I here
    Aly Graham is heading for Partick can you shed any light on this,
    Killie are going to finish there league campaign in some style, they
    played well on Saturday diferent style of play altogether from
    Fleetings tatics they actually looked quite impressive.
    
     

    A great display on saturday with Killie looking like a totally
    different team,played some great football and actually played the ball
    on the the deck every player had a good game it makes you wonder how much
    of a say Burns had in the running of the team when Fleeting was
    manager.If this is how TB wants the team to play in the future then he
    certainly has my vote for the managers job.As for Dundee well if they
    play like this in their next 2 games then they may well miss out on
    promotion never mind the title,i couldn,t beleive how heavy Stainrod
    was he looked at least a stone overweight and totally unfit his
    contribution to the game was to moan at the referee for 90 minutes,and
    if this was how Leighton was performing at Man utd then i can
    understand why they got rid of him,i thought he was terrible.As usual
    Billy Dodds dived all over the place and managed to get himself booked
    in the process,anyway roll on wednesday night.

    Killie were an absolute joy to watch on Saturday...how often can you
    say that ??? The passing game was superb in particular the move for the
    second goal. It's a pity it's too late too matter. If they can play
    like this now what was stopping them earlier in the season?

    Kilmarnock played well last night and deserved their 4-0 win. The team
    seems to be playing with a lot more confidence since the two Jims
    departed, there is no pressure on Killie at the moment because their
    season is over I will reserve judgement until next season when
    hopefully we are fighting for promotion, as for Ayr I felt sorry for
    George Burley because his troops never tried a leg he looked totally
    gutted when he left the park, he is very professional man, he derserves
    better than his players are offering.

     Surely Tommy Burns must be the man for the job at Rugby Park? His
    record over the last 4 or 5 games is very impressive. I believe he's
    working with basically the same squad as the 2 numpty's had and he's
    getting the right response. Burns has 1 thing in his favour over the
    previous 2, he was a player of the highest quality with a good football
    brain. It pains me to say it, but I reckon Killie are a very good bet
    to win the league next season if Burns signs 2 or 3 good quality
    players.
    
     As for Ayr, we'll always be an average league team unless George
    Burley gets some cash to spend. Until that happens, he'll have to try
    and pick up average players on free's or player-swaps. That won't be
    good enough to challenge for promotion. Sad days indeed!!!

    yet another good result for TB. Good to see the 'most improved player'
    since Fleeting went getting a goal. The difference in Jack is like
    night and day...now he chases everything,tackles hard, shows some nice
    turns and touches and most importantly is scoring goals.
    
    Surely now the board must give TB the job. The results are not flukes
    but are hard earned by playing passing football and keeping possesion
    (and the ball on the deck) when we get the ball and closing players
    down when we've lost it.
    
    All should be revealed tonight on west sound sports news....

    I heard Ally Mitchell was player of the year? Surely not...For sheer
    consistency My vote would have gone to Gus Mcpherson. I don't think he
    put a foot wrong defensively all season and still got forward to show
    the forwards how to score on several crucial occasions (Meadowbank, Raith
    spring to mind).

the Killie travel assoc. voted Ally Mitchell player of the year, with Monty
second. For me there was no doubt its was Gus McPherson , consistant, all round
good proffessional. Mitchell was far to inconsistant for me and is not in my
top 3.

    good Juniors?. I heard that Talbot are on the look out for a centre
    half IF big Sam McCulloch retires (36 years old). A sweeper may also be
    required in place of Ross Findlay.

    Well it looks as if Billy Stark is going to be the number two to TB,
    this was reported on Scotland Today last night.

On West Sound it had an interview with both Tommy Burns and Billy Stark.

Stark has accepted the job at Killie and both him and Tb stressed the drive
would be to win promotion next season.

It should be interesting to see if Starkie brings any of the skills he learned
at Hamilton, ie boring football.

    a game on Wednesday and got beat 1-0 from the team he always supported
    as a lad. Thistle 0 Killie 1.

    Kilmarnock have appointed Alan Robertson has a Youth Coach, Alan holds
    the record number appearances for the club, Jim Fleeting freed him the
    in is first day when he was appointed manager, since then he has been
    coaching the Youths with Hamilton Accies., he joins Stuart McLean , Jim
    Clark and Willie McStay as  a coach of the yts and youths.

    A very poor 1st half performance from Killie but the 2nd half was far
    better with young Mark Roberts having an exceptional game. The starting
    11 on Thursday was rather strange, I do not think McStay, Riley or the
    lad who played number 8 will be selected for the opening game at
    Greenock. I hope Hugh Burns, Porteous and Tait will figure in the 13.    
    The Killie pool is a very strong pool on paper but whether they can do

George McCluskey was injured for Thursday's game with Southampton. So is T B, 
Hugh Burns, Mcskimming. Also out for the start of the season ( at least ) is 
Paul Flexney.

I was at the open day yesterday and Williamson ( injured on thursday night ) and
McCluskey both didn't play, unless one of them was the idiot in the squirel
costume.

    Sal George McCluskey came on as a sub against Fraeserburgh and started
    the game against Rothes but only lasted 10 minutes. He did not feature
    in the Southampton game, Killie had a team at Kilbirnie on Saturday and
    won 1-0 I do not no whether he took part in that game or not. Today
    Killie are at Carlisle and Wednesday they play Troon.

    Hello fellow space cadets...
    
    Read an interesting article in tonights Evening News about football
    in Ayrshire or rather the lack of it.
    the 2 page article was mostly centered on Kilmarnock,but Ayr Utd did
    manage to reserve a paragragh.It seems that us boys in the big city
    have been oblivious to what has been happening to the Killie.
    The reporter (I cant remember his name) but he was really gunning for
    the Killie to be allowed to join the super league as they were the only
    team in Ayrshire who could be relied upon to attract non-ridiculious
    crowds.
    The article went on to say that Ayr were known in the football circle
    as the Artic Pole,everyone knows where it is but no one wants to go
    there.
    As the wind of change sweeps through Edinburgh and ground sharing seems
    inevatable,would'nt it be constructive for Ayr Utd to play there home
    games at Kilmarnocks training pitch.
    So as the season approaches,I wish to send my sincere good wishes to
    both clubs and I'll be keeping my eyes on both ends of the league to
    see how yous are doing and to judge for myself who is No 1 in Ayrshire.

    Division 1. If the Super League takes of and the first division teams
    who hace applied get in then they will just have gone through the
    motions of a season. Will the Super League take of, I think Scottish
    football needs revamped but is the Super League the answer.

    recieved application from 9 Scotish league teams plus 1 Border league
    and 3 Highland league teams.Add to this the 7 you already have and it

    A good solid performance on saturday and a deserved 2 points,we played
    extremely well in the first half and Morton came into the game in the
    second half.We held on well but as usual the boys gave us a few anxious
    moments especially Geddes with some of his Superman performances at
    cross balls.I thought Monty and Mitchell were both outstanding with
    Monty covering well for both Patterson and Black it will be interesting
    to see what the team will be once Williamson and McCluskey are fit.We
    can hopefully get another good win at Boghead tomorrow and that would
    set us up nicely for the home game against Raith.Like last season
    though we were caught short down the left hand side,i would like to see
    Black being moved to the left midfield as he seems to be caught to far
    forward all the time and maybe Tommy Burns at left back,anybody got
    any thoughts about that move ?

    is going to be TB's last year on the playing front .With a long hard
    season ahead he's going to get more than his fair share of knocks

          I agree that this is probably going to be TB,s last season on the
    playing side that is why i would like to see him go back to the
    fullback position.I think it,s to much to ask of his old legs to play
    another season in midfield at least if he was at fullback he would stay
    there as his legs wouldn,t be able to carry him too far forward.As it
    is we seem to play without a definite leftback every week which leaves
    Monty to try and cover all the time.As for Patterson well i,m afraid
    i,m not a big fan of him,for his size he isn,t very good in the air and
    seems to be very easy knocked off the ball.I would rather see a fit
    Paul Flexney playing beside Monty al least Flexney puts the odd tackle
    in and wins some balls in the air.I would also rather see Shug Burns
    back in the midfield with Gus going back to fullback where he seems
    happier.

    I will be heading for Boghead tonight hoping for a victory. I am very
    disappointed to read in todays papers that Killie have withdrawn there
    application to join the super league. This is a negative step I am
    quite sure the majority of Killie fans will feel the same, at the
    moment Scottish football is going no where I think we have missed the
    boat, just imagine a team could win the Scottish 1st division and if
    they have not applied to join the Super League they would not get
    promoted.
    

    Billy,   Wining the league will make no odds anyway,even if you have
    applied.For arguements sake say Raith won the league and St Johnstone
    were last ,what will happen? Raith up and the Saints down ,,I think not.
              There is a lot more water to go under the bridge before this
    issue is over..I think that Killie ,StMirren and Falkirk have all been
    given a "carrot" to stay with the Scottish League,what that is will

    Kilmarnock won 3-1 away at Dumbarton last night, first half they totally
    dominated, 2nd half they let Dumbarton into it a little bit, Killie
    finished strongly and should have added to their tally all in all it has
    been a good start.

Not the best of starts at home with killie struggling against a well organised
defense. We lost a very bad goal with half the defense caught ball watching. 
It was always going to be uphill after that and we did manage to put some 
pressure on the Raith defense. The "papers' had the game change with the 
ordering off. I thought it was a free kick, and the raith defender being already
booked he had to go. I feel we would have still snatched an equaliser, the 10
raith men played better than the 11. A great goal by Mitchell won us a point,
and even with 11 men it would have been a goal.

The big worry was the return of T B. He looked short of pace and all the play
moved through him, we played better when he was injured. Tommy Tait had a 
terrible game. When he playes with Burns all he does is win the ball and give
it away. we looked exposed at the back with the usual Tom Black posted missing.
The only players who played well were , monty, paterson, mitchell ( man of the
match for me ) and williamson. The young boy skilling looks a good prospect but
needs more confidence on the ball.

More questions than answers on saturday as to how good a challenge we will make 
this season. Some good signs with mitchell and williamson back on form. A bit
of a worry down the left hand side of the park. 

I hope that willaimson and mitchell start up front on tuesday night with jack on
the bench. It should be a good game and with the top of the table on Saturday it
should be a good guide to how the season will go.

    You can't be serious about dropping Jack (I can't beleive I'm finally
    saying that!) I thought he put a power of work in on saturday and has
    done well in the first two games.
    I would keep Mitchell and Jack up front through the middle and play
    Williamson wider on the right. A couple of times against Raith he
    picked the ball up in that position and ran straight at defenders and

    Killie won with a last minute goal by TB, Morton probably deserved
    the tie to go to penalty kicks, it was a game with four superb goals
    and one for Morton that looked off-side. It was entertaining cup tie 
    with both teams having chances Geddes had one or two good saves has did
    Wyllie, Killie hut the bar and the post, with Jack Wiiliamson Porteous
    and Tait all missing good chances. Tait slooted in at Centre Half when
    Paterson went of injured and he was brilliant.

    Somerset, it could either be a great week or a disaster any thoughts on

    Killie forward line to run riot.
             The best I can see us getting is 0-0 or maybee 1-0 if we get a
    penalty,we  will not score during open play...

    took four of Raith and I was very impressed with Raith last week. Hibs

Well against the form book, Ayr went down to a 2-0 defeat against Ayr. In the
end the team that wanted to win the most did. We can offer lots of excuses about
the team being tired, two lucky goals ( Sunday mail opinion ), and a lack of 
fight by certain players in blue and white.

In the end Ayr deserved to win the game. ( I hated saying that ), the only good
point was that Killie could not play as bad again, and that's one on Ayr's 
better performances so far this season.

The Ayr boy's can have their laugh at our expense just as we did all last season,
but its a long way till the league is finished and I for one am looking forward 
to repaying their hospitaility later in the season.

     Anyway, hopefully your team perform better tonight against St.
    Johnstone in the cup. Although I think the Saints will be too good
    for Killie, I would honestly like to see Killie win. It would be good
    for first division football and Kilmarnock as a whole. Although the
    Saints will miss Allan Moore who was ordered off on Saturday, their
    strike force of Torfason and Wright could be too strong for Killie's
    suspect defence.

    Well after Saturdays shambolic performance against the Honest Men, I
    wonder if TB will be able to lift the players for tonights game. I hope   
    Killie win I think it will be another tough encounter and it may even
    go to penalty kicks but if we play the way we played on Saturday it
    could be a barrow load for the Saints.

After the match on Tuesday night Tommy Burns pointed the finger at his defense
for letting in so many bad goals this season. The rights or wrongs of the 
referee's decisons on Tuesday and against the Par's may make us feel hard done 
too, but TB is right in saying we give to many goals away. Any team that attacks
our full backs and crosses balls from the bye line nearly always score against 
us. Last season we had a strong back four and conceded few goals , we are 
scoring more but in doing so we tend to push both full backs forward leaving 
gaps at the back. The present partnership between Monty and Paterson or Monty & 
Tait gets pulled apart too often. Monty possibly is the most consistant player 
for Killie this season, however should he be playing centre half.I liked it when
he played sweeper behind the centre halfs. If Flexney can get back and team up 
with Paterson, with Monty behind then I feel we can play with two attacking 
fullbacks, but just now I dont think we can afford the risk. Both Hugh Burns and 
Tom Black get caught out of position far to often and then its panic time at the 
back. Against St Johnstone the 2nd and 3rd goals came down the left wing, with 
monty pulled over to cover the wing, none of our midfield or Tom Black covered 
the middle and the result is another loss. 

TB may be right in critising the defense but the formation we use leaves us open
to counter attack, so some of the blame lies with him. 

One point I noted was that we nearly never catch the opposition offside, why is
this, is it we have no one controlling the defense and ensuring we move out 
together. So before TB points the finger maybe we should look at our tactics.

    I think that we are still about 3 players short,in my opinion Patterson
    is finished he is to easy pushed off the ball,too slow and rises from
    his 6 ft 2 to about 6 ft 3.As for the fullbacks well i think that Gus
    should be put back to right back and shug back to midfield as for Black
    well he is caught out of position too often but that is partly because
    we have been playing without a left half for about 2 seasons.The thing
    that annoyed me most about Tuesday,s game was that we had about 20
    corners in the first half and no Calum Campbell in the middle to win
    the ball,surely if you are going to play with player like Mitchell in
    the team you have to play with somebody good in the air upfront,i can,t
    understand how TB can,t see this hopefully though it will be put right
    on saturday.As for signings what about Joe McLaughlin who played centre
    half for Chelsea now available on a free transfer ?

    Another point i forgot to mention in my previous note was,what chance
    have you got if Geddes(Norman Bates)is virtually giving away a goal a
    game ?

I can agree with your comments on Paterson, but he isn't the worse. We seem to 
have half the team playing out of position these days. Mitchell up front 
instaed of on the wing, Williamson in midfield, monty at centrehalf, campbell 
( when he gets a game ) on the wing.

I would keep McPherson in midfield only because he will replace TB in that 
department in the future. He's too good a player to just play at the back, we
can't afford the luxury of him not contributing more to the game.

I know we are playing at home but with monty sweeping at the back to stop the
fast break aways, we can have both full backs attack / overlap. 


Going back to TB's comments after the game, he seams to have slated Mcpherson
for not trying to get back quick enough. I dread to think that our captain
didn't want to play on Tuesday so TB's comments are right out of order. However
if his point is true I can see the departure of another player soon. On the
subject of transfers here's my list.

		Williamson 
		Jack
		Tait
		Black
		H Burns
		Campbell 
		McSkimming

I don't want to see any of them transfered but we may have to to bring in other 
players to balance the team. the directors have said there may be some money,
but they had spent a million pounds already ( what a waste that was ) so the
resources were a bit thin.

     On the subject of transfers, the players you've mentioned would 
    probably only interest first or second division teams, few of whom 
    have much or any money to spend, therefore the chances of unloading
    players for cash is very slim. It looks like you'll have to rely on
    swap deals or picking up some good youngsters at reasonable prices.
    Sounds similar to the giants in the south of the county :-)

    I personally think he is one of your best players. The times I saw
    him last season against Ayr he was outstanding. Killie had a good
    defensive record last season so why's it so poor this season ? It is
    afterall the same players. I'd play McPherson at the back and put Hugh

    I wouldn't say 'back on course' bearing in mind we have only played
    really badly once so far,it's just unfortunate that that was against
    Ayrshires second team. Results have gone against because of losing soft
    goals and atrocious refereeing decisions (Dunfermline,St. Johnstone
    games spring to mind.
    
    Talking of bad referees, Mr. Tait on saturday gave us a display of the
    nearest thing to blatant cheating. (Remember him sending Williamson off
    v. Airdrie last year?).
    
    To not give an obvious penalty when Williamson was pulled down was bad
    enough but possibly only a mistake. But, how can you explain penalising
    geddes for picking up a pass back at one end but not giving the same at
    the other when meadowbank did the same? (The offence happened 1 yard
    out, straight in front of goal...bottle went perhaps ??). Also, he
    pulled Burns back when he took a free kick quickly but whenever
    Meadowbank had a free they took it from wherever they liked.
    Refereeing is a tough job but there is something about this guy that
    makes me think he hates Kilmarnock (maybe it's the effect of playing in

This game was played at a fairly hectic pace for most of the game with Killie
dominating the play. Bobby Williamson returned to the centre forward role with
Calum Campbell beside him. The only change at the back was the return of Gus
McPherson to fullback, ( hugh burns injured ) and Mark Skilling back in midfield.

Killie had the bulk of the scoring chances in the first half, Mitchell being the
culprit, after being setup by Williamson with a nice head flick on, he hit the 
keeper from 10 feet out and then putting the rebound wide when under no presure.
Skilling then put McQueen under presure with a lob header. The second half 
started with a bang with McSkimming being put in the clear down the left wing by
Burns and his low near post cross found Campbell to knock it by the keeper. From
my view he hit it in with his shin but they all count.

Williamson then had a great run into the box stopped by a tough tackle and it 
looked a good penalty claim but the ref Tait kept true to form and didn't give 
it. He also turned another claim down when a defender handled the ball while he 
was on the ground, i think the ball played him but some refs would have given it.
Willaimson had another good run into the box and a nice cut back to McSkimming 
who from 3 yrds out blasted the ball over.

It was a workman like performance against a team with three good away wins so 
far. The referee Mr Tait had a dreadfull game as mentioned in the previous note.
The passback he penalised killie for was more like a shot and geddes made a good
save to stop the ball ( its was going wide I think though ). The ref then gave 
the free kick at least 3 yrds nearer the corner flag. In killie's claim the ball 
was knocked back to the keeper when williamson closed the center half down, a 
blatant foul. He also missed half the dirty tackles, especially on Williamson in 
the first half. All in all a crap display by the ref and that blind git of a 
linesman ( remember him from the partick game last year )

Other good points were some powerfully runing by both fullbacks, at the Thistle
defence. Good use of the ball by Geddes to put us back on the attack. This
resulted in two men marking Mitchell when we were defending corners.

Marks out 10 

Geddes		7 	coped well with crosses for once and a solid game 
McPeherson	5 	didn't look fully fit, foot injury ? 
Black 		4	pushed forward well but posted missing so many times
Paterson	4	defended well, distribution awfull at times

In repy to del's comments on my team selection,  Mcpherson was sub because he
was just coming back from injury. A point proved when he was sub'd in the
second half .

    I see Ayr have freed Furphy if I was TB I would sign him he is terrifc
    sweeper and all he would cost would be a signing on fee.

    centre-half and previously when Killie tried to play a sweeper system

    Well saturday,s display was typical killie stuff,we go up 1-0 and then
    everybody thinks superb the games won,let,s stop playing and hold out
    for a 1-0 win.Unfortunately our defence is not capable of holding out
    with Patterson spectating as usual and Black playing every position bar
    left-back well what chance as poor Monty who yet again played
    superb.Gus still isn,t fit and for the time he was on the park i don,t
    think he actually managed to pass to a Killie player,on the plus front
    Sid was superb.On this display there isn,t much chance of us getting
    promotion.

    I quite agree, Brian, Clydebank were there for the taking but the usual
    management decision to try and sit back on a 1 goal lead let us down
    again.
    
    On the plus side the "sprint king" Williamson looked really sharp.
    But don't you think if Kilmarnock tried shooting more often they would
    score more. At the moment they seem to have a policy of don't shoot
    unless you played five short passes first.

    6.Will Geddes hold a cross ball ?
    7.Will we try and score a goal without putting 50 or more passes
    together ?
    8.Will we manage a WIN ?

    It states in the early edition of the Daily Record that Tommy Tait is
    to sign for Stirling Albion and could play against us today,no fee was
    metioned.Tait was not everyones cup of tea,but it must be said he
    always gave 100%,not like a few others i could mention.I will be
    getting out my pit early to go to Ochilview today so i will pass on a

    The Record was right,Tam Tait lined up against us at Ochilview today,
    the romours around the ground was that Stirling payed around 10,000                                                               
    for him.It was strange seeing him in a Albion strip but he had plenty                                                                  
    company with ex Killies Clark,Reilly,Watters and Mcinnes all facing us.
    The game its self was nothing to write home about,Killie started well
    and after two minutes Mitchell raced down the right beat his marker and
    sent over a great cross which Jacko headed home.At this point 
    it looked like a barrow load of goals was going to follow but as usual 
    Killie huffed and puffed their way through the first half.The second
    half was a margin better with Mcskimming finding some form running and 
    crossing well from the left but the chances were squandered the main
    culprets being Williamson and Jack.Killie were under a lot of pressure
    near the end with Stirling getting five corners in a row,the first  
    coming from Geddes saving after misjudging a free kick taken by the
    Albion keeper from midway in his own half.On the stroke of full time 
    Williamson had the simplest of tasks to settle it but balloned the ball 
    over the bar when it seemed easier to score.
    
    PLUS POINTS- Its two points
               -The dropping of Tam Black
               -Montgomerie,Porteous,Mcskimming,
              - Burns,Mitchell(Second half)
    
    - points   -Why was Campbell not used to feed off the second half
                crosses.
               -You need a fast and classy team to play our type of passing
                game,this we are not(cut out as many passes from the back)

    Rumours in a Sunday paper that Bobby Williamson is wanted by Partick
    Thistle and Killie are considering a swap deal that would bring
    defender Kevin Mckee from Hamilton in exchange for Calum Campbell.I 
    heard in the middle of last season that John Lambie wanted Williamson                                                         
    with Colin Mcglashin's name being linked with a swap deal,so that
    rumour may be true.Any one else heard anything?

    Well i,ll be the first to put in a comment about the P**H on
    saturday,it was one of the worst displays i,ve seen for a long time,i
    have now accepted that our season is OVER.On saturday we played at home
    with one forward and two on the bench this from a team who are one of
    the favourites for promotion.Saints totally outclassed us as did Raith
    and Dunfermline,as usual we tried to walk the ball into the net and yet
    again we were shown how much pace our whole team lacks,it is the
    slowest fulltime football team i have ever seen,we never at any point
    looked like scoring even the penalty we got,i was waiting on Williamson
    passing the ball across to Burns instead of having a shot at goal.Does
    anybody Know who our two fullbacks were on saturday ? because even
    being at the game i couldn,t figure that one out.I,m afraid i,m
    considering giving the Cowdenbeath game a miss that,s how fed up i am
    with the crap i have to watch every week,you could just about hunt
    every player with the exception of Monty.

           Whats happening at Toytown. Two games on the trot with sub 3000
    crowds ,soon you'll be back to the 2500 hard core fans. Who were there 
    in the 70's and 80's before the big signings ,the hype and all the hot
    air talk of 20,000 all seater stadiums.Sad really ,after all the
    slaggings you gave the "thick and thin " fans down the road who watch

    Reply 312, Sal the whole crux of the matter is this Tommy Burns has
    only been able to sign two players since he became manager one is
    McCluskey and the other Furphy two good players, we will no this
    weekend if Furphy will be offered a contract but honestly the cupboard
    is bare, since Burns took over we have only lost four games three in
    the league and one in the Skol Cup, three of these games have been at
    home. I predicted in a previous note that we wolud there or there
    abouts but honestly we are not playing well but are still getting some not
    bad results. Ayr beat us at Somerset and desrved to it is the only game
    this season we have not scored in fact the only game  we have not scored in
    since TB became the manager. The all seater stadium has died a death
    but we will not need it because I think Stenhousemuir will get into the
    Super League before we do after the way Sir Bob chopped and changed is
    mind about the clubs future, the club belongs to the fans OK he put all
    the money in but his brother blew a lot of it on bad signings.
    
    
     

In todays Sun ( honest I didn't buy it ) there is nearly a full page artical on
the promotion contenders in the first division. The major drawback being that
the ask a manager of a team who would only win relegation, George Burnley.

He rated St Mirren as the number one promotion contenders and John Hewitt as 
the top player. On killie he's quoted that we have no pace upfront and only 
have experienced players in the team, but he likes Ally Mitchell.

He feels his own team is in with a shout ( joke of the season ).

As far as Saturday's game against Morton, what's the chance that the same 11
take the field again. Billy Stark has commented that we played well against
Hamilton and the two penalty misses shouldn't cloud a resonable result.

Furphy will find out this weekend on his chances of a contract, I would sign
him, but Stark has commented that he feels that Furphy played `just' OK on 
Monday's reserves 3-3 draw at Stirling Alb. Not a good sign that he played 
and we lost 3 goals. Money or lack of it will be the issue.

Prediction: 2-1 win for killie, Mitchell and Burns the scorers.

    I read the same article in The Sun in which Burley gave his views on
    who he felt were in with a chance of promotion. No where in that
    article did he say he felt Ayr had a chance of promotion. The only time
    he talked about Ayr was when he stated that the future of the club was
    in the youngsters coming thru'. He said the youth policy was beginning
    to take shape and hopefully the club would improve but he never said
    Ayr had a chance of promotion this season.

    20th in the B+Q Cup,If so what are your thoughts on the game ? Or are
    you not to intrested in the B+Q ,like last year and the year before ,
    probably thinking more in terms of promotion (he he good yin)..Well for
    whats its worth I think you lot are over due a gubbing in your own pit
    and this is the game that you are going to get it..So get ready for
    your medicine...Mind you I'd rather have the 2 points a few weeks later in
    the league ...but I suppose we'll just be having those as well..

I'm sure that the Killie groundstaff will have the turnstile working for the 
the mini bus of Ayr supporters. I dont feel the crowd will be that big, around 
about 6,000 or for you Ayr fans 3 times your normal gate.

As for the game itself, given good conditions and a half decent ref to let the 
game flow it should be exciting. Ayr have balanced the limited resources they 
have well, but the passing game that Tommy Burns has been developing is starting
to reap the benifits. Against Morton on Saturday we should have scored five 
goals in the second half alone. If and its a big IF the Killie strikers start to
hit the net then Ayr could be in for a shock. We have been creating a lot of 
good chances lately but only converting about 20% of them.

If Killie get a result against Raith on Saturday then I think we will 
continue on a good run with a 3-1 win over Ayr on Tuesday, but a set back on
Saturday and I see the game going to extra time and possibly penalties. A lot
may depend on the fitness/confidence of the McCluskey & Williamson upfront.
From Ayr's point of view they will rely on the high ball against a "small"
back four, and on closing Tommy Burns down, if they do this then they could be 
in with a shout.

A word of warning to the overconfident Ayr supporters, we played our worst game 
of the season against them, they played one of their "best", they deserved to 
win, but Tuesday will be different. As for the SQF HM, Ayr did well the last two
season's B&Q cups but as history shows " never won anything, never will "

    
    Re last....Dave,   Your thoughts on the forth coming "derby " match
    were about right in that its the long ball against the passing and that 
    Burns will need to be marked very tightly,with Kennedy out for 10 weeks
    a marker for Burns might be a problem.As for your threat of Bobby and 
    fat boy well I think big Malcie will give it to them nice and early.
    Our main threat will come from big Ally and if you can put two wingers on
    our full backs well we might be in bother..But I don't think so ,and
    thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it so there !!
               As for your gags about the mini bus and the turnstile ,well
    if your town could produce whiskey and carpets as efficiently as it can
    arrogance ,well it would be quite a town.. As it stands though Killie
    are a wee team from a wee town playing in a wee league going NOWHERE !!

     I bet all you Killie supporters are pretty disappointed this morning.
    Last night your team had a chance to really hammer your local rivals in
    a very one-sided game. Ayr were lucky that Killie did not have a decent
    striker up-front or it could have been very embarrassing after 90
    minutes. Kille played some very good football but the lack of
    commitment and ability from a poor Ayr side made life a lot easier.
    
     Killie should now go on and win the mickey mouse cup as only Morton
    and Hamilton are the only "top" sides left in it.

The score doesn't accurately reflect the game, it should have been 4-1 to 
Morton.

Far to many Killie players had nights off, the normally sound defence leaked 
like my attempts at plumbing. It it wasn't for some pretty awfull misses by
Morton they could have been 3 up in the first ten minutes. Killie's total 
number of chances were about 1/4 of those created by Morton. 

It was the worst display since we were beat by Ayr at the begining of the 
season. We played very little football and completely deserted our passing
game. To make matters worst I took my whole family along and it cost me 
19 quid to get the four of us in the Stand, plus half time supplies money as 
well.

Its very hard to find any player who played well on the night but here's a 
sinners list instead.

Geddes		6/10    Droped an easy cross, and lucky to get away with it.
McPherson	3/10	He has certainly lost his form so far this season
Monty		4/10	Looked completely lost without Paterson
Furphy		1/10    This is being generous, played two first team games
			and on both occasions cost us the game. CRAP
Mitchell	4/10	Too slow, always 5yrds behind the play 
Skilling	3/10	Was he really on the park
Burns		7/10	Best of Killie, good goal, one kicked off the line
McSkimming	4/10	Back to the usual, hardly contributed, never marked the
			fullback all game
Williamson	5/10	One chance in the second half but manged to hit the 
			defender on the line instead of the goal from 2yds
McCluskey	5/10	Not the best of nights and missed a great chance with
			a free header in the second half

As for our tactics last night why didn't we adopt a sweeper systems since Morton
relied on the fast break and a ball hit over the two central defenders.

On reflection, if this is the best that Furphy can play we shouldn't sign him.
But maybe the Ayr supporters can tell us if he is a sweeper or a center half. 
Playing him and Monty doesn't look like it will work and Furphy looked even
slower than Paterson. At least Flexney is back in training and is targeted to
return at Xmas.

       Willie Furphy was one of the best sweepers I have seen,he operates
    best in that position and has always struggled elsewhere.I take it that
    he was playing a Centre Half role last night,most Ayr fans were very
    aggrieved at his departure from Somerset as he was one of the few
    decent players that we had however it is puzzling that he is struggling
    with Killie although as I have pointed out he is a sweeper not a centre
    half.

    Here Here Lawrence the boy was played out of position he is a very good
    sweeper I am a Furphy fan and always will be but the boy will not get a
    chance at Killie simply because he played with Ayr. I am sure Furphy is
    good to play for a bigger and better club than Killie.
                       

Well Wullie Furphy didn't last much longer than expected
, he was released yesterday at the end of his second -
one month contract. I was disappointed by his play in 
the two first team games he played in. However in his 
defense he was not played as a sweeper but as a centre
half. His match up with Monty was doomed from the start
with both players not being able to communicate. I feel
that Furphy will do a good job with a team that works
a sweeper system. He will come back and haunt us in the
future. But in Tommy Burns defense if he wasn't good 
enough for Ayr to shell out on his wages then he wont
be good enough for us ( only joking before the Ayr boys
take their usual offence ). 

Killie signed a defender from Airdre, i dont know his 
name but it appears he was freed by them, so no money
spent except in paying his wages.

We play Raith on Saturday and with the defense all at 
sea these days we are not pushing forward enough so it 
could be a long 90 mins unless we manage to score early
on. Prediction of a 1-1 draw.

It must be the pressure of work.....( hic). Though at least I was better than a
friend who after Friday night on the bevy, dragged himself out of his pit, got
ready and walked down to Rugby Park to see the game on Saturday at 2:45. He had 
terrible time explaining that one in the pub on Saturday night.


Well its the local derby on Saturday and I don't think either team can be too 
confident. Killie's defence leaks like a sieve against the high ball and Ayr 
got a right gubbing last time they met at Rugby Park. All I wish for is a 
decent game played in good conditions. I'll miss the game because I'm running a 
skating competition on Saturday. So I hope the games on the telly on Sunday.
 
Anyway here's my prediction 2 - 1 for Killie.

                      season,our play in the last third was a disgrace
                      and we got what we deserved from the game,nothing.
                      Only a fool learns nothing from his errors,once again
                      Burns sat behind the midfield making the bullets and
                      McCluskey was only to happy to fire them.There is an
                      easy way to deal with players of their style and more
                      importantly their age,but once again Burley never
                      gave that order.
                       So what can we do but lick our wounds and hope that
                      our tactics are a lot more 90's in January.

    Yehh..Cynical it is I suppose,I remember when I was a purist watching
          Bobby Smith "smash " Henry Templeton to a pulp in a cup replay,
          thus insureing his teams progress to the next round.
    
          I can also remember some Killie players namely McDicken and
          Clarke who were never to be found lacking in that department.

I'll admit that big "D", ( gravedigger ) could be a bit hard at times, but I
must admit wouldn't both Ayr and Killie want a player of his ability ( ? ) still
to be playing with them today. I have a childhood memory of watching a game a
Easter Road where McDicken performed one of his not too elegant sliding tackles,
he won the ball fair and square but unfortunately for the Hibs player followed 
through and broke Hibs players arm. It made Malpas's check on Wednesday look
like a kiss on the cheek.

So how about it whats you memory like, can you remember some "dark" highlights
from the past you never like reminded of.

    I have to agree about Big 'D'. He looked terrifying,was as hard as
    nails, but could play a bit of fitba as well. In fact, I wonder if he

    Here's one from the past,how about the Ingram vrs McGrory battles of
    the early 70's.They were defenetly "don't watch alone" material.Any of
    you old enough to remember them.

    Re Derrick McDicken. He is one of my drinking buddies at Auchinleck.
    If you havent seen him for a while he is now about fifteen stone and
    has a constant limp. As you know he broke his leg in a Junior cup final
    against Kilbirnie, it was the worste leg break I have seen as the bone
    came right through his sock. He has a hole in his leg (where the bone
    came through) and you could put a snooker ball into it. Still, he was a 
    great player for Killie and a hero in Auchinleck.

    Another good performance on saturday and made all the more pleasing
    after sitting freezing for 90 minutes.Auld Starkie turned in another
    good performance in defence and Geddes was superb,Wilson also looks
    solid as for George,well what can you say! he just seems to get better
    and better in every game.Young Mark Roberts also looked good even
    though he does lack a bit of strengh he looks confident on the ball.I
    felt we hung back a bit in the second half,if we had gone forward a bit
    more i,m sure we would have won by more than one goal,we looked capable
    of scoring every time we went forward.It was an excellent team
    performance and there seems to be alot of confidence amongst the
    players,roll on saturday.

Not being the most travelled Killie away supporter, I made the short trip to 
Paisley on Saturday and I have to agree with Brian. It was a good team display,
highlighted by the performances of Stark, Monty and MOM Geddes. Unlike Brian, I
didn't get a warm seat , I had to stand behind one of the goals and freeze. The
only consoliation was I got to shout my encouragement at charnley in the second
half. How he manages to stay on the park is completely beyond me. He appeared
to head but Burns in the first half, took a swing at McPherson in the second. 
He's a complete plonker. it was fitting that he gave the penalty away by downing
Roberts in the first half.

The team is showing far more confidence in its defence and we have got back to
our passing game. The run up to the new year will decide the way the league will
go. The depth of squad killie have, except at centre half, will show through
during the next month or so. If we can start putting the ball in the net more
regularly, with someone scoring except for McCluskey, we will close the gap on
Raith. At the end of the day it will be between Raith, Morton, St Mirren 
and Killie for the top two spots. My pick just now would be Raith and a tight
finish between Killie and Morton for the other spot. But there's a long way
to go and even Ayr aren't out of it yet since their only 6 points behind second
place (only joking).

Role on Saturday and lets end November with a bang...and a 4-0 victory.

    I have to agree about the performance on Saturday especially from mark
    Roberts. You got the impression that he was going to do something
    special every time he got the ball. The turn he made in the box for the
    penalty was a real stoatir leaving two defenders in his wake.
    
    Jimmy Bone thought killie got the 'rub of the green'...I take he wasn't
    sitting behind the linesman that missed every single offside attack St.
    Mirren made and then got Burns booked for dissent. Worst of it is, I
    heard that the guy is from Stewarton!!

         I think we have a realistic chance of promotion especially the way
    old George is playing,to me he looks capable of scoring every time he
    gets the ball.The whole team seems to be playing with alot of
    confidence and determination,we are on a good run just now while St
    Mirren and Dunfermline seem to be going through a rough patch.I still
    think though it will go to the last game of the season to determine the
    top two teams and i think it will come from either
    Killie,Raith,Dunfermline or St Mirren.Morton are a good attacking
    side,but how many of their current squad will still be there at the end
    of the season ? the same goes for Hamilton.

    
    
    Steady boys, Killie are a good 1st division team but that's all.
    Promotion would see them struggle badly in the Premier league where the
    old hands would struggle more. In saying that, It might happen due to
    the rest of div. 1 being so bad. For me, the only teams I've seen play
    decent football are raith,st mirren,morton and us. Raith have built up
    a good lead but I don't know if they have the pool to cope when injury
    hits. 
    Prediction for promotion? Raith and st mirren with us having a
    valiant effort until 5 games to go when we lose 1-0 to cowdenbeath
    thanks to a goal by someone we freed years ago.

    SSHH! It's quiet in here innit? Surely somebody has something to say
    about the last two games. I mean we are actually beating the fellow
    promotion candidates these days (a rare occurrence in the last few
    seasons) 
    
    Reason for the turnaround is Burn's inspired choice to play three up
    and the fact that the third man is Sid Porteous. To have an 'attacker'
    with his vision and passing ability has really started the team buzzing
    and for a change actually taking the chances he creates.

     This was a good Killie performance, marred only by the stupidity of
    McCluskey by punching Raiths' McStay, both of whom were sent off.
    I reckon that the Raith player was a bit unfortunate to get sent off
    also but perhaps the linesman had seen something earlier on that we
    never saw.
     The game then continued in a bruising end to end battle until midway
    through the second half when Gus McPherson got in a well directed
    header from a Raith cross which set off Tommy Wilson down the right
    wing to round the Raith defender and cross to Porteous who stuck the
    ball away well.  The second goal was created with a piercing run into
    the box by Mcpherson again, the ball landing at the feet of Stark on
    the six-yard line who seemed to deliberate a while over it before
    sticking the ball past Carson into the corner.
    Goal No.3 was the icing on the cake when Williamson dispossessed the
    Raith defender from a throw-out who then crossed to Porteous who stuck
    the ball away well for his second of the day.
    
      This was a good overall team performance with credit going to Geddes
    who pulled off some excellent saves to deny the Fifers when we were
    only 1:0 up.

    Well what can you say after that?
    After totally dominating over two games,hitting the bar twice,having a
    goal disallowed for offside and then burns lob bouncing OVER when it
    looked set to trickle in...you get the feeling that you were never
    destined to go in to the next round.

    Another point which merits a mention regarding last night was the fact
    that McDairmid Park was totally unprepared for the large travelling
    support with hundreds of fans, myself included, still queueing up to
    get in when the game started.

    Killie had most of the play in the first half with Mcskimming nearly
    bundling the ball over the line in a scramble and Mcpherson hitting the
    bar from close in. Against the run of play Clydebank scored a well
    taken goal with their first attack of the half after the ball
    ricocheted off skilling. Killie attempted to get back in to it with
    a Stark header well saved by the bankies goalie but by now the bankies
    were content to hit on the break. From one of these Skilling then Stark
    slipped when it looked easier to clear and Geddes was left helpless for
    no. 2.
    
    Pass marks only to Skilling,Stark,Burns,Gus and Mcskimming. Williamson
    was hiding as usual,Crainie is lost upfront,Campbell is just lost.
    
    Highlight of the night was sid porteous almost coming to blows with the
    ref. (If only he had a pint glass with him 8-) )

    I think it's 'Dugald' chuck, but all in all a good signing for Killie.
    The boy has scored 100 goals in 200 games for the 'tic, not  a bad
    rate. He'll do well and be playing premier league footie next season

            our legs, maybe I should change my last statement about Ayr's
            chances at Killie on March 20th,but the fact remains if I
            didn't think Ayr would win I wouldn't pay to get in,and that

          Yes killie have not played that good in there last 3 meetings

    Is the season over?i hope not,but deep down i think it is.Once again
    Killie seem unable to reach their pinnacle,season after season we have
    looked good enough for promotion,only to be,much to the fans disgust,
    thrown back down the league by so called lesser teams.It does not help
    our cause that every team in the league WANTS to beat us,this is mainly
    due to the hype that the media place on us.This season in particular
    we have never been off the tv or out the papers,the usual headlines
    sleeping giants,promotion certainties etc only make other teams more
    determined to beat us.Raith and Dunfermline have got on with their
    tasks without a quarter of this hype.
                                       Tommy Burns must also look long and
    hard at his playing staff,too many have been hiding when it mattered
    most.If we had another eleven players with the pride and heart of Monty
    the league would have been won long ago.At times this season our
    football has been exquisite,a delight to watch,but on other occasions
    it has been down right crap.When we play a side that wants to play  
    football,we play,but face a side that hassles and goes in first time,
    forget it.Tommy is still the man for the job,i have nothing but respect
    for him.It saddens me that the fans are beginning to vent their
    frustration at him(to many short memories),admittedly the ball goes
    through him to much,but take Tommy away and we are only half the team.
                           One last effort by everyone,fans included is a
    must,beating the blacks on Saturday would be a good start.Promotion or
    not come the last game of the season,it will still be WE"LL SUPPORT YOU
    EVER MORE.

    Shuggie,you almost made me cry with that last note,but I didn't because
    you deserved all you got.Two wins against the mighty Raith led you into
    believing that you could even overhaul us,but the championship isn't
    won over a couple of games and the better teams will come to the fore
    at towards the end of the season,but don't despair we'll beat the
    Pars on saturday and let Killie have another go at second spot.

What a difference a month makes, at the end of a reasonable Janurary with good 
victories over Raith and Ayr, February has turned our season on its head. The
defeat by St Johnstone took a lot of belief and heart out of some players. I 
don't believe that this is the reason we lost to clubs like Stirling and 
Dumbarton and Raith. Our new style adopted in January with 3 up front has been
sussed out by the competition and we seem unable to alter our style of play 
once a game starts. Teams that close us down quickly, especially our fullbacks
stop us building our passing game. We don't have any competitive players in 
midfield who can win the ball and unless our passing game pulls teams wide and 
opens gaps up, we end up struggling. As Burns is reported in the press as saying
we are paying top $$ for players who dont seem to want to fight hard enough
when the going gets tough. Our front two players, Williamson and McCluskey
are not scoring enough goals, this could be down to the poor service they get,
but a lot of its down to just poor finishing or the willingness to have a go.
We may dominate large portions of games but how many good chances do we create.
Its far too early to give up on promotion, with a good result against Ayr on
Saturday and Raith playing the Pars we could close the gap and put pressure on
the Pars. Good support will help the team on saturday , so chear them on and not 
shout them down.

On Saturday's game, Ayr will be fired up to put a further dent in the promotion
race. They would be financially better off with us in the first division next 
year, and I'm sure the Ayr players will be out for revenge for the last 3
times we gubbed them. The team selection for us will be critical. I would like
to see a few changes in the formation for Saturday. We need a bit of bite in
midfield, so what about Skilling moving forward or possibly Hugh Burns. The flu 
bug will determine the front three but Wiliamson/McClussky and McCarrison ( if 
fit, he should be nearly dead before doesn't play ). Ayr will.play a smaller
front two than in previous occasions so mobility could be the key fo Killie at 
the back. The first ten minutes will certainly decide the outcome of the game 
and possibly the season ( if results go against us elswhere ).

I believe we have a better team, who if they put on their scorring boots could 
give Ayr a drubbing, but we must use both skill and determination to do it.

    didn't realise that Killie was the club and that it realy meant a club

     Good result for the KILLIE today i hope they can keep it up THIS time
     cause i think they got a touch of the jitters last week at love street 
     but came back again today, with a bit of luck i think we might sneek
     it.Dunfermline have the hardest run in now but KILLIE are away next
     week to cowdenbeath and from what i saw today at east end park they
     will have to fight all the way if they want to beat them cowdenbeath

    Cowdenbeath this season.  I think the last two results were a dodgy 3-2
    away win, and a last minute equaliser for a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park. 
    However this time I hope we can take a few off them to stretch our 6

     Ayr have already done Killie a few favours this season. They've taken
    5 league points from Dunfermline this season and 6 from Hamilton. St.
    Mirren are the only one of the challenging teams that Ayr haven't
    beaten. Maybe that will change on Saturday. Ayr have only had 1 defeat
    in their last 12 games or so and will be looking to continue that form
    on Saturday.
    
     Killie's destiny is now in their own hands. Win their last 2 games and
    it's premier league football next season. I reckon Dunfermline have
    finally blown it with Saturday's defeat and will struggle to win their
    last 2 games. St. Mirren could win their last 2 so it's really up to
    Killie to take no less than 3 points from Cowdenbeath and Hamilton to
    win promotion.

    Danny,     I'm very shocked that your memory has deserted you, United
    have played the Saints twice at Somerset and won on both occations,
    2-0 as the Bean says in the LEAGUE and also 2-1 in the B+Q Cup.
    
               I think we will beat them again on Saturday,but it really is
    all down to Killie . I feel Burns won't allow them to slip up again.
    Mind you there will be plenty of nervous squirrels in Fife this
    weekend.Also watch out for the Accies getting stuck in a week on
    Saturday.

    How's life in the east treating you? No withdrawal symptons from not
    seeing the super-U's as often. Once Burley picks up a couple of good
    experienced players from the end of season clear outs, I reckon Ayr

The tension is certainly in no short supply. From reports the Killie staff 
expect a good crowd and the terracing will be all Killie, the Hamilton support
will be in a section of the stand. There should be enough for the mini-bus 
support they carry.

With result from last night, could there be some changes for Saturday. I've a
feeling that Burns might go for experience on the park. So a recall for 
Williamson upfront, with Dugal on the bench may be in order. With Wilson
suspended , Mcpherson will drop back into the full backs slot and Burns back 
into midfield.

I missed last nights game, anyone know the team and how they played. There's no
point in slagging Ayr yet, but come monday ....... time to pick up my 
winnings.

    The boys played very well in the first half , far better than their
    older compatriots. Wiliamson scored from the bye-line in 15 mins after
    chipping Spence. Killie had by far the better first half. Ayr played
    shooty-in for the second half, scored from a free-kick, missed a
    penalty, had enough chances to win 5 games and lost to the last kick of
    the ball. McCluskey (Killie bar-steward of a ref) gave Ayr a softish
    penalty and then waved away claims for 2 more within 5 minutes. Both of
    them were stonewallers. I actually thought it was George McCluskey not
    Jim McCluskey, but he wasn't fat enough.
    
    So Killie have promotion within their grasp. How many of the existing 
    squad could compete at the top level ?  Any ?  Personally I don't think
    any have the ability and Killie will need to do some serious bargain
    hunting in the summer frees to have any chance of avoiding a
    Cowdenbeath-like season in the Premier.
    
    However, If they go up they will have deserved it and good luck to them
    they'll need it

    Killie should have there biggest crowd to-day since Talbot played there
    in the Junior cup final. Lets hope they do the business as they are a
    credit to Ayrshire football (junior clubs included, as they, unlike Ayr
    gave Rugby park for modest fees for major Junior games). Ayr stole a
    fortune from the Talbot V Kilbirnie semi final game a few years ago and
    for that reason I hope they get relegated.

     Congrats to Kilmarnock for winning promotion to the premier league.
    Enjoy the euphoria as long as possible because the hard work starts
    now. I'm sure all Killie fans will agree that they'll need to sign
    a dozen or so better players to have a chance of staying in the
    Premier league. They have a good manager, potentially a very good
    support so if Burns gets the financial backing from the board, Killie
    could be a good addition to the Premier League.

    Thanks for the good natured congratulations from all of you no matter
    what colour your scarf is.  All points noted.  Kilmarnock will need a
    strengthened squad to make an impression next year.  But with nearly
    two hundred senior footballers given their jotters last week, it's a
    buyer's market.  On top of that if they vote for three teams to go down
    next season is going to be difficult to say the least.  So I AM going
    to make the most of this while it lasts...   There's only one team in
    Ayrshire!!! etc. etc.
    
    By the way did anyone hear Bob Crampsie describe the match mascot as a
    BEAR on radio Scotland.  For a man who was a Brain of Britain I thought
    he might have spotted it was a squirrel.

The rumour is certainly strong that Mo Johnstone is targetted by Killie. I 
heard information on Tuesday that he is expected to sign on Friday 24th.
My source is a long time season ticket holder and usually accurate with the
info.

I'm a bit surprised that we can afford his high salary, plus expenses. He 
seems to have had a bad spell at Everton, but since there crap anyway it may be
unfair to measure his worth. But Everton must be trying to dump him because
of the costs, so how could we afford him. The current playing staff has some 
reasonable earners in it, Bobby Williamson is on 800 week, but Johnstone must 
be looking for 2,000 a week minimum I would have thought. 

Maybe this is just a roumour and after the press meeting he will dash upto 
Glasgow and sign for Celtic, or even Partick Thistle.....

    According to newspaper reports Tommy Burns is getting no money to spend
    on new players,so he will have to make do with the squad he has got.How
    on earth are we going to survive in the premier league with the current
    players ? i for one think we haven,t a chance in hell of surviving
    esecially if Craig Patterson is going to be playing at centre half in
    the Premier League,considering the amount of Season tickets Killie have
    sold me being one of the many i think it is a disgrace that the manager
    is to get nothing to spend,anybody any views ?

    
    
     Isn't it the case that Killie are heavily in debt, 2m quid was one
    rumor that I have heard, most of it being wasted by Jim Fleeting.
    However, if Killie want to survive in the Premier they must take a
    risk and buy at least half a dozen players. If they can survive, then
    they'll be in a stronger position to improve their squad of players
    for the following season. Killie have potentially a very big support
    which would mean bigger gates but if they don't invest in the team
    just now, that support will remain untapped and they'll be back playing
    first division football.

          I agree with everything you have said,and as you said what is the
    point in getting to the Premier just to be back in the 1st the
    following season.The board have got to take the gamble or else face the
    consequences.

    It's fairly obvious to anyone who saw Killie play last year that they
    will need to sign players to stay in the Premier. Relying on players
    like Paterson will not do. Mccluskey will need support up front too.
    
    If they are 2 million in debt then will it really make much difference
    to spend a bit on the team and be 2.5 million in debt ? Also remember
    that there are more players than ever before being 'freed' so surely
    some of them must be worth a try.

    First of all , Congratulations to Andy Arnott for having the most

    back page of the Herald. It appears that Killie's worries are over as
    Chairman Fleeting has been talking to no less than 3 American players
    including that big guitar-playing, folk-singer from New York who scored

     Don't believe all you read in the papers. Bobby Geddes has refused
    to sign a new contract with Killie as he's only been offered the same
    terms as last season in division 1. He feels there should be something
    extra for playing in the Premier. I wonder how Mr. Fleeting is going
    to attract 3 Americans to darkest Baghdad if he's unwilling to offer
    last seasons "stars" an increase in their wages.

    Since the end of last season it was known that geddes was talking about
    moving back north having just bought a house up there and I beleive his
    wife has already gone back to living there . Bearing in mind he
    probably was already on premier type wages I think this story may just
    be an excuse 'cos he want's to go back home ?
    
    P.s Fleeting has never had a problem offering unfeasibly lucrative
    deals to attract unheard of players to Rugby Park - the problem is
    getting them to play fitba' once they get here.

    thinking of. Andy Millen is a one-time St Johnstone reject who was
    plucked from obscurity at Alloa to more obscurity at Hamilton and has
    now continued that trend by signing for Kilmarnock. I reckon 50K is
    more than he's worth. He's a left sided defender with a reputation for
    being quite tough. Who's he replacing ?

     Tom Brown 60min.
    
	Superb start to the season. Great entertainment without much silky
    football being played (probably due to a congested midfield). Should
    really have finished 3 or 4-0 with Killie hitting the bar,having a shot
    cleared off the line and a couple of good reaction saves from the
    goalie. 
    	Dundee's best chance came when Geddes fluffed a kickout straight to
    a dundee man and then parried his going-wide shot into the path of
    another. He still looks nervous at crosses too.
    	It's "eat your words" time for all those that said junior players
    wouldn't do for the Premier league (me included)...Tom Brown looked as
    if he had played there all his days...definitley Man of the Match.
    
    Joint top of the league and back down to earth with a bump at pittodrie
    next week...dontcha just love this Premier cairry-aun.

    impression that Killie weren't putting everything in to this game and

    I entirely agree with note .490 and would add that for me the most
    surprising thing about the whole game was the last 10 minutes.  At 1-1
    with Rangers just having equalised if I said that one team was punting
    the ball up the park and the other was passing the ball out of defence,
    you might be mistaken for guessing their names wrong.  Killie (Dad's
    Army) where magnificent at the end of the game, and believe it or not
    finished the stronger team and deserved their win.  
    
    Here's hoping they get their feet back on the ground and don't waste it
    all next Saturday.  At home to the likes of Hibs is where we should be
    loooking for points.  Last Saturday was a bonus.  Boy!! and what a
    bonus!!!

    I'd like to add my congratulations.
    
    It's good to finally see a team going to Ibrox and attempting to play 
    football rather than going there and sticking 11 men behind the ball 
    trying to hold out for a possible point. If more teams followed this 
    example, Rangers might not get things so easy and games would certainly 
    be more entertaining for the fans.

    Re Last,            Yip Killie looked the better team and deserved
              their points,who knows if they can continue to perform at

              going after and not just the seasonal relegation dogfight

    I liked what I saw on Saturday, (except for the last 10 minutes for
    which the manager quite rightly gave them a roasting).  Creative
    passing, patient build-up etc.  The Jags were unfortunate to give away
    a soft penalty, but at the end of the day (football cliche No.4) we
    were always going to win comfortably.
    
    Europe is a long way away.  About 36 games away.  More interesting is
    the 5 point gap between Killie and the 3rd bottom side (Jags)!!!

    Before saturdays game with Celtic i would have setteled for a point,but
    after the 90 mins i was disapointed that we hadn,t got the 2 points.At
    no point in the game did i feel that Celtic were going to score,it is
    without doubt one of the poorest Celtic teams i have ever seen,and at
    the end of the day it was an easy point gained for us.I felt that if we
    had a striker like Tommy Coyne playing for us on Saturday we could have
    beating Celtic quite easilly,and in Andy Millen i have yet to see a
    better defender than him in the Premier League,he is without doubt the
    main reason for our good form this season,and we also seem to have a
    bit of aggression in our game,although on saturday every time a Killie
    player went near a Celtic one he got booked.The referee was an absolute
    disgrace i still don,t know why Ally Mitchell was booked on
    saturday,the only worrying thing at the moment is that both Millen and
    Monty are very close to getting suspended,this would be a real blow if
    both players get suspended at the same time.Roll on Tuesday night and
    some more points in the bag.

    Another worrying aspect to this game was the reception the home support
    gave Tommy Burns.  I think we all know he'll end up in the manager's
    chair at Parkhead sooner or later.  I had just hoped it would be later, 
    rather than sooner.
    
    So come on Celtic!  You can do it!  Brady and Jordan are a great
    managerial partnership!!!

    Ayr had most of the game after the first half hour and I thought they 
    would nick it when they went ahead in extra time, but a good battling 
    performance by the 2nd XI brought them the Cup.  The penalties owed
    more to Gavin Hastings than soccer.
    
    Like my colleague in note 49 I would have liked to go home at 9.15pm as
    I was freezing, but it was Ayr's fault for scoring and prolonging the
    inevitable.

    What a boring game. The referee could have done us all a favour by
    abandoning it or cutting the cr@p and going straight to penalties at
    7:30. Contrary to popular opinion in here I didn't think ayr were in
    the hunt at any stage even when they were one goal up and killie looked
    as though they could step up a gear at any time. 
    Best bit of entertainment all night was when Flexney ran across the
    park with the cup and it fell to pieces.

    I didn't go but saw the goal on scotland today last night. It came from
    a bad geddes kick-out (sound familiar). Also IMO if monty had been
    playing dundee might not have scored - "the boy adamczuk" motored away
    from paterson as if he wasn't there. Why was paterson playing? Is monty
    dropped 'cos he has been playing badly? or is it because he is only two
    bookings away from suspension and TB didn't wan't him suspended for the
    rangers game?
    PPS. From what I saw in the ayrshire cup game big Flexney would have
    been a better replacement. Ho Hum...

    The last game Killie won was against Partick in September.  Next
    Saturday would be a nice time to start doing it again!  Then against St
    Johnstone, then Hearts, Dundee Utd, etc.  We need to start winning

This weeks Kilmarnock Standard has a report that the Directors have put up
200,000 for Burns to buy player(s) with. Tommy is quoted that they would only
spend the 200,000 on a player who would be with the club for 5 - 7 years. Some 
how I dont think that we can buy a player who could walk into the premier
league for 200,000 unless he was over 27/30. Good young players cost a lot more.
But TB has been wise, consider Rangers spending 4 M plus for a player yet to
score or hold down a first team place, and TB spent 75,000 on a centre half who
is walking away with the player of the year award in a well known sunday 
newspaper. 

Fridays newspapers show that Tommy Wilson has moved to Dumbarton for a nominal 
fee. From holding down a first team place before being injured last season,
then being sent off in a reserve game on the second last week of the season, 
thus missing the vital last game, he seems to have fallen out of favour with 
TB and so he's on his way to sunny Dumbarton. This should cut the wage bill,
so another addition may be on the way...... We can only hope.....

    interest in Owen Coyle due to Bolton increasing their valuation of the
    player to 250K following his recent performances.......

    Unlike the big successfull teams like Celtic, a team like Kilmarnock is
    forced to live within the realms of reality.  Put in context, an away 
    draw at Tannadice was a good result.  Perhaps next season we'll be looking 
    for two points there on our way to a European place.

    On the subject of points, Motherwell finished 4th bottom of last year's
    Premier league with a total of 35 points.  Give that this year's league
    seems to be a bit closer, I reckon 38 points would mean Premier league
    football in 94-95 for Kilmarnock.  That means 14 to go!  What do you
    reckon?

    I thought as this is the time of year for reflection I would put in a
    note along the lines of Note.209 (The greatest feeling of all...), for
    Kilmarnock fans.  What great moments in the club's history have you
    witnessed that left you gibbering with delight.  For myself...
    
    Nineteen sixty something.  0-3 down to Eintracht Frankfurtin the first
    leg.  Then 0-1 down after 20 minutes at home, then winning 5-1 (5-4 on 
    aggregate).
    
    Nineteen seventy something.  Watching the boys beat Ayr 6-1 at Rugby
    Park.
    
    Nineteen eighty something.  Hearing that Killie had just beaten
    Aberdeen 2-1 at Pittodrie in the Premier League, and on the same day
    Motherwell (with new manager Ally McLeod who had just dumped Ayr to go
    to Fir Park) beating Ayr United 5-2 at Somerset, after being 0-2 down
    with 20 minutes to go!!!
    
    28th August 1993  Screaming at the ref to blow the whistle to get
    Killie a point at Ibrox only for Williamson to put them 2-1 up!!!

    Knocking Celtic out of the cup 10 or so years ago, and the recent
    victory against Rangers.
    As a Killie fan, for nearly as long as Gavin, I've never heard so much
    noise from the Killie support as when the injury time goal was scored 
    at Ibrox. I was hoarce for days after it.

    As far as saturday's game goes I think Rangers created more chances

    I'll say 4-1 home win, and 11,593.
    
    It's nice to get a home tie against lesser opposition to start a cup
    run with, don't you think?

     You know what they say Gav, skill will always overcome brawn, so
    seeing as Killie only have Burns in the skills department and a team
    of hoofers and honest triers (as opposed to HONEST MEN) around about
    him, Ayr must have a chance in this game. We've got Simon Stainrod and
    er, um somebody else in the skills department and a team of heifers and
    hoofers. That means the fans are in for a pretty dire 90 minutes, then
    again by all accounts thats what your lot are used to this season.
     
     4 - 1 seems a bit harsh, you've got the worst home scoring record in
    the league and we've got a pretty mean defence (well apart from the
    9 goals lost in recent games) so I'll go for 2 - 0 Killie.

    It's fatal to tempt fate with predictions for these games but after
    seeing what our reserves did to your first team in the ayrshire cup
    well...
    however Cup games like this are usually down to who has the most will
    to win and commitment on the day so we'll see.

    No predictions from me, but a word of warning for you squirrel lads....
    
    You lot are doing very well in the Premier because most teams under
    estimate your capabilities and are then punished for it. Kilmarnock
    play well when they are the underdogs but not when they are expected to
    win. If Ayr can get a couple of new signings before the match, and
    Stainrod gets them fired up for the match then a closer scoreline than
    4-1 is on the cards. Quoting history is pointless; how about Inverness
    Thistle 3 Killie 0. East Stirling 2 Killie 1 , Stranraer's grand slam
    season of 4 victories in 89/90 ? Doesn't mean much now does it ?
    
    Just keep on building yourselves higher on that pedestal......

    Well for the second week in a row we lose 3 goals in 5 minutes. I hope
    this isn't a trend. After totally dominating the first half the defence
    decided to forget about marking up and Hibs scored from three corners
    all from free shots or headers.

    another week goes by while we're still mid table.   All in all, a

    As a neutral (someone who dislikes Kilmarnock as much as Ayr Utd) how
    Killie got that penalty kick is beyond me. There was absolutely NO
    contact made on McSkimming although it didn't look as if he dived.

    Killie tonight signed Alan McInally. No fee has been negotiated with
    Bayern at present, but he should make his debut tomorrow.
    
    It's questionable wether he'll be able to reproduce the form that took
    him to Bayern but if he can get near it, he should prove to be an
    excellent signing. Looks as if he knocked back Hearts to sign for Tommy
    Burns.

    With a capacity of 18,000 I can't see you not getting a seat if you

    The new seat offer for 820 notes, with two years free seat looks like 
    costing about 400 pounds above season ticket prices.
    
    The big issue I have is that if I want to sit where I do today in the 
    stand near the centre line. I would have to pay the another 820 for my
    8 year old son as well as my own. You only get a discount if you
    buy a father and son ticket for the new stand at the rugby road end.
    
    I'll be getting the full info pack from Rugby Park this week.
    
    
    On another note does anyone know if the Cup tie is a all ticket affair
    or pay at the door. I think we will win on Saturday as long as we 
    change our crazy formation from the last two weeks. Brown, Williamson
    and Rambo should all play upfront, a three man midfield with McSkimming
    and Mitchell providing the main support to the forwards. If we only
    play two fowards then either brown or williamson should be dropped.
    Brown is completely lost on the left of midfield. This causes the same
    with McSkimming who is given no room to run at players and get some
    half decent crosses in. On Saturday, for all our possesion we never 
    put one decent cross over for a striker to run onto. It appeared that
    we have started to play a long ball into space ( not even towards a 
    man ). With Rambo a bit suspect on the fitness front we should try and
    put the ball at least near him.

    Can't agree more about the formation. For me, this is why the last two
    results have been disapointing. Tom Brown is lost at left midfield and
    consequently Black's form and confidence has dropped because of the
    insecurity there. I would drop Williamson for Brown up front, push
    Mcskimming wide left again and pray for mark skilling to come back.

    soundly. What's the bets it boils down to however fouls hardest and
    gets away with it, wins.
