547.0. "Premier League tickets (from abroad)" by BULEAN::ROBERTS (Are your lights out?) Tue Mar 12 1996 00:19

Distinguished Footies,

Having recently reviewed "National Lampoon's European Holiday",
I can hardly resist taking the family to the UK in the near future
for a little cultural enrichment. A quick perusal of the Premier
League schedule indicates that Manchester United will be playing at
Southampton on April 13. Now what could be more culturally
enriching than a relaxing afternoon with thousands of Man United
	supporters?

How do I get tickets to this match or any other Premier League match
from outside the UK? Is there some sort of national ticket service
or do I have to deal directly with ticket mongers in Southampton?
I would like to get the tickets in advance of our departure so we
can plan on being in the right part of the country for whatever match
we could get tickets. Any phone numbers or general hints would be
	greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken Roberts

You could try ringing the Ticketmaster Premier League Ticket Line... I
don't know if they will send them abroad but they do sell tickets for
all the games... ( Home ends only )

The number is (0645) 202020.... you'll have to figure out how to dial it
    from the US.

They charge a booking fee per call & per ticket...

    Cheers,

    	Rick.

One trick which has been known to work in the past is to write a grovelling
letter to the home club, saying how ever since seeing Terry Payne on a piece of
scratchy film in 1961 you've always wanted to visit the "Hallowed Dell", and
you'll be passing through on . . .

Or check the Southampton note for possible telephone number.

though I can't imagine why anyone would want to watch the scummers ...
the way you dial U.K phone numbers is

011+44 and then you strip the leading zero off the u.K number so

    011-44-645-202020

The scummers ground is very small (16,000?) so you may want to plan
    some alternative back-up plan.

Thanks for the info. The point about who would want to watch the
scummers is a good one. I guess I could be patient and wait until
April 27 when professional soccer starts up here - probably some
of them will have played the game before. Then again, I could be
even more patient and wait for the Liverpool-Juventus "friendly"
in Foxboro in August (although the last time I watched those teams
play on TV for the Euro Champions Cup in 1985 wasn't so friendly).
Then again, we could go to Italy....

    ken,

There is apparently a U.S v Eire game in Boston in June... but
seriously it may be difficult to get tickets for such a small ground
as southampton and you might want to check what other games are on that day.
