| Well that's the first trip of the year over. Four wonderful days in
the Scottish Borders with 15 other Conway owners. It was rather bleak
when we started of Friday morning with gales and showers of sleet here
on the west coast of Scotland but once we moved inland a bit these
died away and after that there was not a single drop of rain during
the whole weekend.
Plenty of silly games mainly involving eggs as well as everyone making
complete fools of themselves prancing around in Easter Bonnets. All
good fun.
The rally was at Lillesedge Caravan & Camping part just north of
Jedburgh which I can highly recommend if you want a quite family site
with a small club house and bar. It is bang in the middle of towns
such as Kelso, Melrose, Hawick, Selkirk with there imposing abbeys and
is ideal for exploring this area. The site is grassy and level with a fair
amount of protection from the wind. The children's play area has been
revamped over the winter and was a great hit with our kids whole spent
most of the time there.
Rgds, Steve.
PS> I think it would be useful if people could put in trip reports
with site and area comments. I will do so throughout the year and
hopefully some of you out can also do so. So where did you go for
Easter?

36.3 | 7 nights for the year so far | IRNBRU::61549::Spike | Welcome to the Rimmer Experience | Wed May 14 1997 19:11 | 26 |
| Third weekend of the year now complete. Two nights at the
Drummuhr Caravan Park in Musselburgh just outside Edinburgh.
This is a very well kept site with clean, heated toilets with free hot
water except for the showers. There is a small but well stocked shop and
probably the best kids play area I seen on a site this size. The
hook-ups are 16 amps and quite a number of hard standings are
available for you vanners.
Highly recommended if you are looking for a site near to Edinburgh. It
is only 5 miles or so from the city centre and backs on to the
Prestonpans Industrial Museum which is free and provides some nice
walks.
This weekend was the first time the new canvas on the Cruiser actually
got rained on and it proved 100% leak proof despite thunderous downpours.
Saturday night it rained hard non stop and yet not a single drop came
though. 9 Conways turned up this time which nicely filled up the corner of
the site we where given which backed on to a walled garden.
Next trip will probably be to Dumfries.
Rgds, Steve.
PS Anyone else been away????????????????????????????

| Trip number 4 over. 4 nights from last Thursday to this Monday at
Barnsoul Farm 6 miles west of Dumfries. The site is on a 250 acre farm
consisting of rolling hills and pine forests. A very pleasant spot
with the chance to walk miles without going near to a road.
The camp field is mostly level and partially sheltered. Unfortunately
the two side that are screened by trees contain a rather large rookery.
Their noise combined with the hundreds of sheep and lambs in the next
field, plus a cuckoo, owls, pheasants and what I assume are wild
peacocks as they where everywhere made for a rather noisy site!
The noise volume was somewhat increased by three families of brain
deads St Helens supporters from surprisingly enough St Helens (as they
repeatedly told everyone) who spent all day kicking rugby balls up
into the air and loudly squealing with delight anytime someone managed to
catch one. When they finally tired of this normally around 11.00 pm
songs and drunken shouting of classics such as "I'm hard me, look at
the size of my willy" carried on to about 2 in the morning. At this
point they thought it probably best to put their 3 and 4 year old kids
to bed as they seemed to be crying a bit more than usual. After a
couple of nights of this with them basically ignoring my request's to
shut up, they finally quietened down on the last night. I assume that
the site owner had had a word because from 10 pm onwards we never
heard a peep from them. Are we allowed to arseholes in this
conference ;-0
Anyway back to the site. A very pleasant spot for seeing the area. The
facilities are basic as in only 2 gents and 2 ladies toilet cubicles,
with a couple of showers, clothes washing and iron facilities and a
washing up sink located in an old mobile home. All of this was quite
clean and serviceable but not what you would call luxurious. The bonus
of this is that he only charged #5 a night plus #1.50 for hookup which
he even rounded down to #25 for the four nights for us. This only rises a
pound or so in the high season. Considering that Brighouse Bay just
down the road wanted to charge us #17 pound a night because the
weekend was a Bank Holiday I call Barnsoul a barging ever with basic
amenities. There is no kids play area as such but there is a sand pit
and also plenty of natural rock climbing frames which keep our young
kids happy.
If you are looking for a site near Dumfries and aren't worried about
not having all the thrills than you could do a lot worse than this.
Rgds, Steve
