690.0. "reply to mail from a list server..." by GIDDAY::BACOT () Mon Apr 07 1997 07:01

    A customer is having the following problem:

    When replying to mail from a list server which included a reply-to
    line in the header, TeamLinks appears to ignore it and identifies the
    list name as the 'from address'. If you reply with options select to
    reply to 'recipients on reply-to list' it will let you reply to the
    originator of the message.

    The problem is knowing when there is a 'reply to' on a message.

    Showing the envelope doesn't display it anywhere so
    is there some field that can be added in the show_envelope.txt file?

    Thanks,

    Angela

690.2We don't know of a way to do thisTAMARA::TAMARA::CLARKLee Clark,DTN:381-0422,TeamLinksMon Apr 14 1997 20:2514
Since no one has jumped in to tell you how to accomplish this, I went to
talk with one of the server engineers. The consensus is that this probablyu
can't be done without changing code and, possibly, changing the information
exchanged between server and client. Therefore, there doesn't seem to be a
way to do this at the user's end.

Note that if you select *only* "Recipients on Reply-to List" for a message
that has no reply-to list, the Send button (and Send menu item) will be
dimmed (there's nowhere to send the message). So, that will tell you if
there is a reply-to list.

I imagine that if there *is* a reply-to list and you select that option,
then the recipients will be loaded into the address pane of the new message
window(?).

    Thanks for the information.

    After relaying it to the customer, he has some additional
    questions. I would appreciate your comments.

    Does this mean that the code which interprets the template doesn't
    deal with the reply-to list field?

    The users will have to select to reply to the reply-to list in order to
    find out if a list is available. A work around, but not very obvious.
    Is there a way to modify TeamLinks to set this as the default?

    Thanks for all your help!

    Correct. The reply-to list is sent from the server upon the client's
    request for that data. The client requests that data only when the
    "reply to list" option has been checked (based on a quick look through
    the code). That data is not requested when the user displays a
    message's envelope (which is where the template is used).

    Yes
