822.0. "excel attachments show binary instead of excel" by GRITS::CARTER_A () Mon Apr 14 1997 18:51

    Hello,

    The customer is using TL 2.5-EC04, Mailworks 1.3A, Excel 5.0.
    If Person A sends a routing document to person B with an Excel spread
    sheet person B can read the document with out a problem. Person B then
    adds a 2nd routing document with an Excel attachment on it and and
    sends the document to Person C. When person C receives the document
    he can read person A's excel spread sheet without a problem BUT person
    B's excel spread sheet shows up as binary. We have switched the order
    of people and the people involved but it always seems to be a problem
    with the second Excel spread sheet.

    Has anyone seen this with Team Route 1.0.

    Regards,

    Angela

822.1Need a dump of the packageGALVIA::JFEGANJoe Fegan@iloTue Apr 15 1997 17:0524
    This could be either a problem with the way the TeamRoute Windows
    client creates the package or the way the VMS service agent handles it.
    Does this only happen with Excel spreadsheets or does it also happen
    with other types of binary file e.g. Word documents?

    I would need to see a dump of the TeamRoute package before and after
    the problem attachment was attached. To get one you need to find out
    the name of the server file containing this message which you can get
    by selecting the package in TeamLinks and doing "File" "Attributes".
    This will list among other things the host file name which is what you
    want. Once you have this, log into the VMS machine and run a utility
    called TMR$LIBRARY:TMR$RTL_DUMP.EXE and specify the host file name
    given by TeamLinks when prompted for an input file. This utility will
    dump the contents of the package to SYS$OUTPUT in text form.

    These dumps can be quite long so it would be better if you could put
    the dump somewhere that I can copy it and enter a reply to this note
    telling me where it is.

    Regards,
    Joe.

    BTW: Have they installed ECO kit 1 for TeamRoute for OpenVMS V1.0 ?
    Have they applied any ECO kits or customer patches to MailWorks 1.3A?
822.2What we know right nowAIMTEC::GIANNETTI_DTue Apr 15 1997 20:4212
    Joe,

    The customer has 1.3a-3 of DEC MailWorks.
    The customer has 1.0-000 of TMR (I analyzed the service agent exe)

    I gave him information on the rest and he will email me the dump.

    I have the dump files now. Where should I copy them so you can
    procure them.

    Thanks in advance.

822.4Maybe just mail themGALVIA::JFEGANJoe Fegan@iloWed May 07 1997 16:318
    Debbie,

    It's probably best if you put them on some VMS node in a directory that
    I can read and tell me where they are so that I can copy them. I don't
    have any VMS directory to which you would be able to write. Either that
    or just mail them to me (GALVIA::JFEGAN). They are text files after all.

    Joe.
