489.0. "Any help with DARTCH yet!" by MAASUP::TURRO (Make it so number 1) Wed Jan 29 1997 21:28

Can anyone post a cure/fix for the following DARTCH problems encountered
on the hinotes. Modem/multimedia IRQ interference referenced by previous
    notes.

Just to give you an overview.

I have COM1 enabled via CMOS (FN F3)
set up for 19200 (office use) Serial port Keaterm/Device Manager
From the office I use Decserver port Aok
I have COM3 enabled via CMOS (FN F3)
    Set up for 57600 Keaterm
I have edited modems.ini for the PCMCIA Modem

The modem shows up as COM3.Under Device Manager
    Setup for 57600

I have "been unable" as of yet, to change the IRQ level under DEVice
Manager as a previous engineer was able. Believe I played with it at
least several hours.ie COM2 and Pcmcia CDROM are at same IRQ levels

If I go home to use DARTCH I have to first shutdown modem (Via PCMCIA)
remove it install it and then run KEATERM then I can run Keaterm to dialout
to CHAMPS. If I dont KEaterm/Laptop gets hung up.Fix- REBOOT,Stop/reinsert
Modem restart Keaterm then all is well make connections allday no
    problem.

This problem exists with the Multimedia or Diskette platforms.

The other thing I tried was the MMM driver update listed in past
notes. This hasnt seemed to help either but I may have the new drivers
    already.

    Mike,

There are a few things you can do it eliminate the CD IRQ conflict.
First, if you're not using com2, (infrared port) then disable the
device in CMOS. This will move your modem up to COM2. If you still
detect conflicts in the device manager, then build a configuration
that disables a device you would not normally use during that
configuration. In other words under the DOCKED configuration, uncheck a
device you would not usually use when the CD is attached. Do you use
the modem and the network card with the CD? Uncheck one. You can also
manually set the resources of some devices, but this is not advisable
in the event you add another device. Lastly, you can disable the
parallel port LPT1 and gain back IRQ 7.

489.2Aok after MMM driver update!MAASUP::TURROMake it so number 1Tue Feb 04 1997 09:5012
I got it all working. What I found was a "good" procedure
to install the MMM driver Update. After I installed it
(43 steps) no conflicts. You should disable the Infrared port
(Com 2) and all should be well.

The only problem I still have is that when I want to use the
Megahertz modem either via Keaterm or dialup networking, the modem
fails to respond properly. I have to stop the modem then restart it.
    Then all is ok!

    Mike,

Where did you find the "good" procedure to install the MMM driver
update? I'm having trouble with this and I suspect others are, too.
    Thanks.

489.6Mobile Media Module V4.13 Firmware Update ProcedureDEBUG::GALLOFast/Good/Cheap... Pick 2!Mon Feb 10 1997 10:0344
To Check if your MMM Driver Update was Correctly Installed:

With your MMM unit connected, go into Control Panel, System, Device
Manager, and with "Computer" highlighted at the top, click on
"Properties". Check the IRQ settings for "Digital PCMCIA AUDIO" and
    "Digital PCMCIA CD-ROM".

They should be adjacent at IRQ's 9 and 10, or at IRQ's 10 and 11.
If they are not, YOU MUST RE-APPLY the MMM Driver Update.
