608.0. "FORTE" by KIRKWD::FRIEDMAN () Sat Jan 07 1989 02:51

    "Writing is my forte." The proper way to pronounce forte is FORT.

    There is a direction in music which means "loud" and is spelled
    forte also. This word is pronounced FOR-TAY.

    When people say "Writing is my FOR-TAY," they think they're being
    hip and smart but we're all laughing being their backs.

    Generosity of spirit must not be your forte.

And when people say "Writing is my FORT" they are being pedantic and
boring. We laugh at them too.

    Not of they mean it in the sense that "Writing is my military
    insdtallation." This is especially useful for combative writers.
